I have a question. You’ve probably already covered it. It’s Harry Potter. In POA, when Petigrew becomes human, he’s dressed. But when he turns back into a rat to escape, he leaves a pile of clothes. And what did the ministry think of the left behind clothes?
@karlrovey
@karlrovey 3 жыл бұрын
They were probably destroyed in the explosion Pettigrew created to frame Sirius.
@lisaa6755
@lisaa6755 3 жыл бұрын
@@karlrovey This is in POA timeline. When he's in the Shrieking Shack and turns from rat to man, he's clothes (thankfully). But when Lupin starts to change, Peter changes into a rat again shrinking into his clothes and running off leaving behind a pile of laundry.
@karlrovey
@karlrovey 3 жыл бұрын
@@lisaa6755 And no one goes to the shrieking shack. Even if the ministry did investigate, they wouldn't even consider the clothes. If they were competent investigators, Sirius wouldn't have gone to Azkaban inn the first place, Hagrid would have never been expelled, and Harry wouldn't have had to have a trial in Order of the Phoenix.
@lisaa6755
@lisaa6755 3 жыл бұрын
Karl Rovey don’t get me started on Hagrid getting expelled. When Voldemort becomes a thing, how does they not look back to when Tom Riddle framed Hagrid. But even if the ministry doesn’t care about the clothes, why leave them when he changes back to a rat? It’s just an inconsistency to consider.

Im from Alta! I was wondering when you’d do a video on this. The history of the Sápmi people and the norwegian government is truly devastating. Less then a 100 years ago they still did tests on the Sápmi people’s brains and sculls to find “what was wrong with them”. The government didn’t let sápmi kids speak their mother tongue in school, causing the language to nearly die. Today students will often get payed to learn sàpmi so we can keep the language alive. There’s still racism towards the sàpmi people in Norway today. I strongly encourage you to watch “sameblod” on netflix if you want to learn more about why so many Norwegian/Sàpmi people can’t speak sàpmi anymore. «Kautokeino-opprøret» is also a good movie about the death of two well known sàpmi men, but i don’t know how you’d watch it outside scandinavia tho:( You pronounced Màze perfectly btw😂
@elinanygaard7565
@elinanygaard7565 3 жыл бұрын
Lilac Penguin Yeah, It’s very normal for people in the north of Norway to not know they’re sàpmi because their ancestors had to hide their identity and stop speaking the language. I’m not sàpmi my self but it’s a goal of mine to learn to speak it someday!

Wow, that was super interesting! We have quite a similar story in Italy, although it doesn’t have a happy ending. In the late ‘50s former national energy agency built a dam in the Vajont valley, taking away land from the local people without even noticing them. They needed to build as fast as possible to meet some political deadlines so they skipped the geological surveys. As the dam began being filled earthquake activity increased and cracks formed on the mountain right behind the dam. Some geologists stated that a massive landslide was being triggered and that the filling had to be stopped. The locals protested, people were arrested and the filling continued. On the night of October the 9th 1963 the landslide was triggered and basically half of the mountain fell right into the lake. A massive wave (much like the one in frozen 2) passed the dam without breaking it and flooded the town of Longarone, killing thousands of people. It was impossible for me not to link that scene in the movie with what happened, but apparently I am the only one in the whole country 😅

Hej J! I've been waiting to see if someone would bring up Frozen's Sámi history references, and I got so excited when I saw this video!! I did want to quickly clarify that Finnmark county is not the *only* place where Sámi live. My people cover an area of land called "Sápmi", which makes up about 2/3 of Norway, half of Sweden, and the upper parts of Finland and Eastern Russia. It's a lot larger than most people think! Unfortunately, We are still dealing with the government trying to destroy our herding lands to this day--but We have some really great activists working hard to conserve indigenous land rights 😊 Also, giitu(thank you) for not using the "L" word in reference to my people like so many others do. It hurts to see such a derogatory term still being widely used, and it means a lot to hear you use our proper name❤💚💛💙

I’ve always wondered why sadness is so powerful. She managed to change the core memories and any other memories that she touched that weren’t already sad. Also the fact that joy can’t change the memory back to a happy memory after sadness touches it.

Dang - came for theory; stayed for the theory AND the cultural history lesson on my own people. Don't really know how to pronounce Maze (the native name of the town) either but in Norwegian it's Masi, which you actually pronounced perfectly so well done. The words "elva skal leve" literally translates to "the river SHALL" or "WILL live" - by demand, threatening active opposition if necessary. Far as I kow, it never came to violence though.

Full glad am I that you decided to talk more about this history. Even in Norway there seem to be a lot of people who have forgotten about that struggle, so getting it out into the world is good. I have also more history from Norway if you want to read it (I'll leave them very short, and very little summarised so you'd have to read up more to get even the bigger picture, but here it goes). 1st. part: How did Norway become a christian country. One Viking king, King Olav the Holy, decided he needed a legitimate way to claim that he was the rightful king and made a partnership with the church to legitimise him as Gods chosen. He then travelled throughout Norways long coast line, and basically said: "Do you accept God as your new Lord?". And if you said yes, you were fine, if you refused however you were rewarded with your throat getting cut. He didn't force the Sami to do the same because Vikings respected their connections with the various spirits. 2nd. part: Norway now as a part of a Swedish-Norwegian forced union, thought it was time to teach the Sami about modern life and in so doing make the christians. They sent priests up to Northern Norway, Finnmark to be more precise, and gave them authority over the Sami people. That way they could stalk and criminalise Sami-culture, for so to imprison or punish those that didn't want to become christians. This led to the Kautokeino uprising which was unfortunately knocked down, and led to 5 people getting the death penalty but where'as only two of them were executed in Alta by beheading. They even had to have 50 armed infantrymen there to keep the peace during the execution as it was done publicly. 3rd. part: Modern Norway and their current ruling party, decided that in order to give more power to the people they took away more of the local politician activity in various counties by forced mergers. This also was forced on the counties Troms and the county Finnmark, which was joined together to one massive county called "Troms og Finnmark"-county. But by centralising the political powerhouse in the north that county now has less control over the everyday dealing of the people, and the county is suffering because of it. And to top it all off, there have been talk now to reverse that forced change because of it being hugely unpopular. Heck the landmass of the Troms-Finnmark counties are vastly bigger than most counties down south, and if I remember correctly you could fit all of the southern counties into the landmass of those northern ones, yet in south they still have after the forced unionisation still has 5-6 counties. Also don't believe most of the maps that show that Troms-Finnmark is smaller then the southern body of Norway, because that is not telling the truth. Just look at the size difference there are from how it looks in a globe to how it looks on a flat map. The land masses are Troms-Finnmark: 74 829.68km², and the counties Oslo, Rogaland, Møre og Romsdal, Viken, Agder and Vestland: 99 084.54km². And they are 6 counties against 1! 3rd.part: tl;dr: I'm disgruntled Northern Norwegian feeling that Northern Norwegians are still belittled by our southern countrymen. And it's not really as historically important like the other 2 points. Full comment: Tl;Dr: Thank you for making this video and shining light on the struggle that was the Alta controversy.

There was actually a similar thing that happened to the welsh village of tryweryn in the 50s, the village was located in a valley in north wales and Swansea decided to build a reservoir in said valley. Despite the protests of the village, the reservoir was in fact built and many people lost their homes. If you’ve ever seen the words ‘cofiwch tryweryn’ in white letters on a red background, it originates from a grafitti memorial created by the protesters after the reservoir was completed. (I’m welsh and we learn about this in school, it’s actually really interesting)

Thanks for this video. I was annoyed by the lack of exploration of the Northaldra in Frozen 2. Loved all the songs and Elsa’s growth and Anna going Queen (that was so obvious) but expected more intro and involvement of the newer characters. Like the Sami story it felt like the movie was doing more petting and lip service and while giving them something also punished them. Idk.

In 2019, Norway sent a group called keiino to the Eurovision Song Contest, featuring a Sámi ‘joiker’- representing Sámi culture on a global stage, where it won the popular televote, and came 6th overall (there’s also jury points that contribute). It’s worth a listen to if you have the time, it’s very fun and powerful, about the struggles and self-empowerment of marginalised groups

The same people have historically been treated badly all over Scandinavia, and I for one never heard much about it in school (in Sweden). I knew about the same from a very young age, and I knew they hadn’t always been treated the best, but just how bad their rights has been repressed only came up once in one class in like 10th grade (other people might have different experiences though, I guess especially if you live further north and closer to the same)

I never understood hunger strikes.. "I'm going to teach you a lesson!! I'm going to not eat something today.. That'll learn ya!" I mean.. If someone chooses not to eat, why is that my problem? Why should someone simply choosing to not eat sway my mind on anything? Eventually they'll either get too hungry and eat in which case.. I win. Or they'll get sick and pass out because of lack of nutrition, and be sent to the hospital in which case.. I still win. Is it supposed to be that I feel sorry for the people who refuse to eat so I bend to their will? Why would I feel sorry for someone else's lack of better judgement? They're CHOOSING not to eat. They're not being forced to not eat. It's a conscious effort on their part. Why should I care at that point?

Newspapers. Or, really, any medium that relies on visual storytelling. It creates a striking image of suffering, especially the longer that it goes on. It becomes a stark metaphor for someone suffering due to the neglect or inaction of others. And, psychologically, it strips away any nuance from an issue, framing the hunger strikers as the good guys (they’re not harming anyone but themselves) and the targets of the strike as the bad guys (it’s almost always framed as ‘bargain with us and we’ll stop the strike’, so it makes the targets of the strike seem unreasonable and heartless). But yes, if you can control the narrative (or you just don’t need public support) then you can ignore it. Of course, if you have any opposition... well then your plan is basically a recipe for ‘how to lose power in three easy steps’.

I'm from Alta. And I must say what an amazing video! And the information and history of the Alta river and the sami people is correct! Maze is thankfully still there! The norwegian government has not made it easy for the Sami people. At one point they made it forbidden fo speak their language (samisk) in public. This made them have to hide their identity. There are still people from that time will still try to hide the fact that they are of the sami people. There was actually made a movie about this 😊

Hello! This is a really good video in terms of describing the treatment of the Sami people. However, as a Swedish person I would like to point out that the Sami people live in Sàpmi, which is the northern parts of Fennoscandia as well as a few north-western parts of Russia. Fennoscandia includes Norway, Sweden and Finland, while Scandinavia includes Norway, Sweden and Denmark. My point is that the Sami people don't live in Denmark and as such it would have been more accurate to describe them as living in Fennoscandia. Otherwise this is a good video. It is important to remember crimes like this so that we will learn and never repeat it.

Possible future video: your take on whether or not the Nokk killed Anna and Elsa's parents? We know their ship went down in the same waters that the Nokk was guarding. I personally believe it's plausible (after all, he nearly killed Elsa before she learned how to control him), but it's been pointed out that he may not have been "awake" at that point, since Elsa awakens the spirits at the end of Into the Unknown, years after her parents die. Anyway, curious to know your take! :)
