It's strange how simple the upgrade is, but how much it improves the design! Great job Roy!

Very Nice Roy,great mod to the tool.I went down to my local scrap yard and found an old Oxygen tank for welding and cut the bottom 4 ''s off it and welded a hardy stake to the side and walla I got a small swedge bowl.The tank has a nice round depression in the bottom of it.Thanks for the video!

Nice little tool you made. Was glad to see your wooden mallets used. Am interested in the type of wood used to make your mallets as im about to make one next day or so. Also wondering if there would be prudence to one end being larger faced than the other? Your the pro professor Roy so oppinion is more vallued than my rambeling theories. Great video as others have said. Out of curiosity could thst steel sheet be fire welded to the ring?
@danielcrawford7315

Now thats an interesting propisition. No answer here. I could see that happening IF one had a press set up right next to the forge and it had a flat die just bigger than the disc AND was set so the die could contact and set the weld in 1 second or less. Thats alot of really precise ifs ands n buts. Now im sure there are smiths out there that could hammer set a weld. Again i see that as a very precise hammer blow series taking place in a second or so. Seems one crooked blow could slide the plate off center. I reckon 2 people could be more efficient, could potentially double the marigen for error. Will be most interesting to here what a real professional smith has to say. Blessings to ya sirSir, Crawford out

I'll add my 2 cents in on that question.. It IS theoretically possible, BUT... trying to heat materials of such different sizes to the correct range at the same time is basically not going to happen for 99.999% of people. I meen forge a circle of 1/4 plate all along a ring of 1" round srock is about as improbable as a weld can get. Even if it was taken and welded in sections going around it would be likely the plate would burn up at some point, or distort to where there would be a crease in it.

@@random40s thank you for this answer, I didn't think that was possible, but I can't even fire weld anything.

Mr. Roy, thanks for all of your wonderful content! I have a few questions if you have time. Can this be adapted to a rounding dish for hammers? If so, how would you go about making it sturdy enough? Also, is there any way that you could show us your piece in the forge when doing a weld? If I go by the “instructions” on Internet forums, I have to have 6-8 inches of fireball. But, if I put the piece in a reducing fire, I’m not able to see the piece, especially when it’s getting up to welding heat. Is there some hint, tip, trick, etc. that one should use to get to that final welding heat, without burning the piece, that will let me see the piece? Sorry for the longwinded post. Thank you in advance for any advice you may be able to share! Ben

Anyone notice the wooden hammer flaming out or something on a slight top of the hot metal at 10:31. I though I imagined it and had to back it up a few times.
