Hi! I'm Shaniya but I use the moniker Shanspeare on KZfaq. I'm 24, use they/them pronouns, and love all things pop culture! My channel has a lot going on: think Shakespeare meets Baz Luhrmann meets insufferable jester in a relevant but silly costume. I have a bachelor's in English Professional Writing (and basically Literary Analysis--long story) which aids me in the creation of my content. Above all, I wish to emphasize teachability and critical engagement through a fun lens.

My mom is a wannabe trad wife. She fully believes men deserve to be in charge of everything and should have final say. Thing is, in all her relationships she ends up miserable with mean man-child partners who at best are lazy and entitled, and at worse are abusive to her. And every single time she finally has enough and leaves them, and then STILL doesn't see the fault in her way of seeing things and the type of men she's picking. It makes me so sad. And of course she thinks I'm the miserable one because I have zero desire for romance and sex, and don't ever want to get married or even date. I love living alone and being single, and it blows her mind. She's convinced I'm sad and lonely, when she's the one who is both of those things.

The magical relaxed housewife was a fantasy created in the 1950s by advertising in order to sell electric home appliances that could do the work faster than the old way of doing it by hand. They had to make it look like you would lead a relaxing life in order to get women and their husbands to buy the merchandise. The reality was that you were still busy 24-7, you just had machines now.

I’m a traditional stay at home wife. This is my choice, it makes me happy, I enjoy cleaning it’s a stress reliever for me. That being said my husband still helps with his own house work. He takes care of the lawn, garbage, cat litter, recycling and anything I specifically ask for help with. He is an attentive father to our baby, and a kind, sweet man to me. Here is the real thing though, NO ONE should be forced into this role. It’s not for everyone, it’s stressful and it’s a lot. Every woman should make that decision for herself.

@@More13Feen I disagree with that, the mother being home with the children and taking care of the home is something that’s been in all human cultures for the most part. Real life traditional sahm’s lives are nothing like that.

I don’t know why so many people keep saying this. Who the hell is forcing you to stay at home? Even that tik tok trad wife mentioned in one of her recent videos that her videos are only meant for women who are interested in being a trad wife. And that everyone is free to follow their own path in life. If being a trad wife isn’t for you then obviously those videos aren’t for you.

I idolised my mother who would've fit into this tradwife fad, wanted to be just like her. But I realised that it burnt her out entirely. She also wanted to pursue a career but couldn't with 5 kids and a husband who all relied on her. I have nothing wrong with women who want to be stay at home mothers, but those who carefully curate content to make it look effortless and without cons are obviously lying to you to sell a fantasy.
@RevShifty

I mean, that's just a good rule of thumb for everything in social media, isn't it? Like, you don't get clicks or sponsorships by showing how chaotic life can be, especially with multiple young children in the picture. You have to sell the fantasy to people who don't know why better, because everyone who does would immediately know exactly how full of shit you are.

I would agree, but I'm afraid the situation is sadder than that. IF these alt-right yahoos lost their fear and demonization of sex, and say, joined their local BDSM venue, they'd *still* wind up harming people. Because kink requires consent. Navigating kink requires a TON of communication, and negotiation. It requires respect... at LEAST in the beginning. You have to see the other person as a human being. But they see women as property, not as fellow humans, and so they would be incapable of navigating a kink relationship without completely ignoring their wife's well-being, wants, and needs.... and I can't even IMAGINE one of them administering effective, psychologically-sound aftercare!

Your early points about the WKKK remind me of probably one of the most chilling realizations of my life. In my work, I've handled robes from the KKK. They were a man's robes obviously, but his name was hand-stitched inside them. We can pretty safely assume he didn't do that himself. A woman in his life did that. When we talk about the contributions of women in the labor force, we have to consider invisible labor, and I think that was the moment I understood on a visceral level just how integral women are to bolstering white supremacy and other systems of oppression.

While doing research for a college class I fell down a Stormfront rabbit hole in 2016. Stormfront is an older discord server for people who proudly identified as white supremacists, even though men were the majority of members they did have a “women of Stormfront” tab. I lurked and while the women weren’t calling for violence as much as the men they were still horribly gross and racist. Most of the posts revolved around talking shit about the women of color who dated white men these ladies had a crush on. The women also had the most hateful things to say about children. The men didn’t ever mention kids they seemed to forget they existed, but the women spent half their time in the discord insulting biracial children. Shit was horrifying and they’re passing those attitudes onto their kids.

Stormfront is a bit funny for that, they were pariahs for a long time for being the first to have a women's only section. Hammerskins, Iron March, the Chans, and even Something Awful which has "far wings" of both sides have ridiculed them as "Stormcucks," pussies, "kowtowing to feminism," " white power knights, " etc for almost a decade now. They've had artwork of their head honcho Don Black in bdsm sissy gear or girly skirts dropped all over the compound irl. Vanguard even sent the dude a gay sex doll of himself with a riding crop. It's only since the scamdemic the others finally realised "hey, we kinda need women too!" Ironically those other groups went too far in the other direction and latched onto a "colonialist mindset" where _now they don't mind mixing_ " *so long as you steal at least a 7 from the negroes* " so as to eventually dilute other races into nonexistence. Yeah, it's been a weird decade indeed in WN spaces. It's a coin clip whether a reddit sub about "hot black/Hispanic women" is run by a WN fetishist or actual black person 😅

As a "woman"* who was in that subculture (including a fair amount of time on Stormfront over the years), the women give a softer veneer but can absolutely be vicious. There's usually a division between "tradfems" and "valkyries" but both are dangerous in their own ways. * I now identify as nonbinary but in those circles I was perceived as a woman, they aren't that big on trans people... (although there's a surprising number of Alt-Right trans people, mostly via 4chan, but they don't like nonbinary people either).

what im most concerned about is the lack of financial planning for the tradwives. like yeah they are in their mid 20s now and their partners think they are hot right now but what about when they are in their mid 40s, 50s? when they have given their everything for their families and now their partner gets bored of them, leaves them or even worse what about abuse? how are they going to get back on their feet? what about retirement? they have done decades of unpaid hard labour for their families with nothing to fall back on. but as soon as you remind them of this very possible problem you either get "my husband would never. i know how to chose a man" or the "your boss can fire you whenever he wants and you will be unemployed as well". Which regards to the first one: do you think these women willingly chose men who turned out to be abusers or leave them with nothing in the end? of course not. everyone thinks this will never happen to me but it does happen. regularly. enough so that our old grandmas and aunts have warned us about it. and to the second: finding employment after being fired with an up to date resume and constant work experience is a lot easier than finding employment after decades of nothing on your resume. its a shame but sadly its the reality that domestic work doesnt count in the workplace as experience unless youre a teacher or work in a daycare. and also if you have worked for decades you were most likely able to save and invest some money for hard times/ the future which trad wives dont have. if anything in their "perfectly planned out life" will go wrong they will be at the mercy of their husbands and the court system. And the husbands know this.

As I'm sure you are aware, there's a lot of conservativism in the Black community, especially African and Caribbean people. What might be somewhat surprising is how many non-white people are cozy with White Nationalists. WN circles and Hotep circles in particular overlap online. Conflict is usually more in the vein of friendly rivalry or the same ideology from two perspectives. So from Hoteps to the Black Manosphere to Black Republicans to those who are rather anti-Black in spite of their own skin color, it's complicated.

thank you for acknowledging this. I am a black agnostic, but spirtual woman and while I rejected the church I still have fond memories of my time in church and many of my family's most important functions/gatherings/events happen IN church. The reason the black community has clung to the church for so long is because it has historically been one of the few safe spaces for us to gather. Largely considered somewhat respectable enough to be off limits. It's so much more than a place of worship. It's a social club, a think tank, and a base of action. So for such a sacred space to be violated like that, is psychologically damaging and incredibly disheartening

They don't appear to realise (or wilfully ignore) that the modern vintage community, while not perfect by any means, is a proactive inclusive space filled with people of all races, gender identities and sexualities. I'm generally a grumpy bastard. Not really, but that's how it can seem to people who just look at me or don't know me well. But even as a guy, there's something so disarming and physically (even existentially) relaxing when a cake friend just grabs your hand or wraps her arm around your elbow as you're walking somewhere. By body doesn't generally know what to do when all that official tension leaves, so it's always confusing for a second, but always loved and appreciated every moment after that. Even movie night cuddling without sexual tension can be amazing. My grumpy ass ain't even tense back up for a couple days, just because someone I enjoy that much wrapped herself around me so much there's no place for that tension to hide. Just curled up over a blanket watching a movie with someone I care about can change my mood for a couple of days, easy. I think it's because I don't generally handle people being in my personal space well. With very few exceptions, most people just have no need to be that physically close to someone. But then you're with someone (in my case a woman, though I've still had wonderful cuddle times with lesbians so there's zero possible sexual tension) can just make the tension away. They both really can be such beautiful things.

In all ways going to work for 6-9 hours making my own $ is by far much easier than staying home and tending to 3 humans all damn day and night. I saw this trend and immediately saw the white supremacist code due to that harking for a long gone past, that would definitely not work for Black People who have always been forced to work. I spent some time as a stay at home gf bc me and my partner were trying to see if that worked for us, and I literally became insane. I think that theres a lot of negatives about the lifestyle that is ignored completely by all STHM influencers because it doesn't fit the image they are trying to sell. Maybe I wasn't cut out to be a stay at home partner, but I refuse to believe that at least half of these women do not have severe cabin fever.

My husband and I tried it prior to marriage when we moved across the country, and I absolutely loved it BUT he hated it. Just to be able to afford the bare minimum basics, he was working 14+ hour days 6 days a week and even on his one day off he'd often do various side jobs to bring in extra money or food or I'd do side jobs to bring in whatever was lacking. After a few months we talked about it all and he brought up how he hated that he had zero time to himself, zero time to relax, and although he loved coming home to a clean house and cooked meals, he couldn't enjoy anything because he was too tired and living off of caffeine and nicotine. It also didn't help that I was constantly excited when he came home so I wanted to smother him with affection, which wasn't always an issue but I understand that after a long ass day some times the last thing you want is someone constantly wanting to talk and touch you. And none of that even touched that I dropped my living standards MASSIVELY while being a housewife. I went back to work and now here we are over a decade later with a baby and able to keep our heads above water a hell of a lot easier than when I stayed at home.

This "tradwife" stuff is honestly hilarious to me as an Indian woman, because the only Indian housewives who are free, relaxed and unburdened by work are upper middle class and rich women who dont have jobs outside the home AND enough resources to hire one or more domestic workers (usually poor migrant women from the rural areas) to do the cooking, cleaning and childcare. Rural and poor women(so most indian women) often perform back breaking labor from sunrise to sunset. They dont wear pretty dresses and frolic in the fields with a full face of makeup, they're too busy making sure their families and communities don't fall apart. This tiktok trend is so classist it's actually insane.

This chill tradwife is a fantasy for past and present Americans too. If these women truly have kids then it's hard work. Firstly, let me just say usually it takes me a few “audition videos” for me to decide if a channel is worth the subscribe. This is the first video I saw of yours and easiest subscribe I ever made. Secondly, I think that the conversations around tradwives and their behavior and the question about why they would say/promote things that we all know will be used against them in the future relates so heavily to those in the queer community who do the same (i.e. LGB movement and Log Cabin Republicans). There’s this innate “If I show I’m one of the good ones I wont be put in the crosshairs” mentality that goes with it. Also, wanted to throw in that I myself am a bit of a house-husband. My husband goes to work, I stay home and cook, clean, take care of the fur baby, do the shopping and general day-to-day maintence/tasks. We still have equal say over how the money gets spent and there’s no sense of who is doing more for the house and it’s worked out well for us so far.

Honestly it's so concerning how we (as in the general public) have been romanticizing the tradwife/SAHM lifestyle. Obviously you should have the freedom to choose what you want to do in life, but I feel like we've done a 180 from that general stance into completely glossing over the flaws (for lack of a better term) of being a stay-at-home partner. Lately I've been seeing so much content completely ignoring those aspects and romanticizing total submission to your partners' whims. (And god forbid this happens but what if you have to leave the relationship one day, for whatever reason? Unfortunately we still live in a capitalist society, you should be able to have some sort of safety net/financial security to fall back on even if you don't have a career) Maybe it's because I'm Indian and I've seen the effect being a stay-at-home wife can do to several women in my family, but I am always a bit...skeptical of these posts and people who push the trad wife rhetoric without acknowledging the mental/physical/financial harm it can put someone in

Way back when I was but a dumbass teenager, I got sucked in by the tradwife aesthetic. I had already been into cottagecore and baking on tumblr at the time, and had a very sexist and toxic family, so the algo pushed me towards that. I ended up then getting sucked into the anti sjw rabbit hole, and it wasn’t until I was watching Sargon defend race realists that I started having doubts. Once I became an adult and entered the workforce, I realized that that it was all fucking bullshit and I had idiotically wandered into this disgusting worldview (i “woke” up lmao). This kind of content is so fucking insidious, it took things im genuinely interested in, and combined w my background (white, poor, American) sucked me into the extreme right, when I was like 13-14. It’s disturbing, and the social media companies really need to take that into account when tweaking their algorithms, because what if I hadn’t gone straight from hs to a profession dominated by women? I probably would’ve ended up married at 19 to some violent racist and had 3 kids by the time I was 25. Gross.
