Enjoyed the video.I am a mature rider 68 with 51 years of riding,still ride a sport bike but really considering a Speed Twin. A good tip when doing rear shock work is use a scissor type car jack between the top of the rear tire and underside of the seat.

Good vid. Your Speed Twin is an inspiration to the other Speed Twin owners out there and just knowing where yours has gone has definitely inspired me to mod mine as well. Although I'm still not sure what to do with my bike. But I've definitely appreciated watching your vids. To many more years of Speed Twin riding!

I have exactly the same bike with about 6500 miles on it now. But mine is bog stock. I have changed nothing at all and see no reason to. It’s pretty much perfect as it is. I was tempted to mod the suspension but the mechanic at the dealer said that if you’re going to do the back you’d need to do the front too. It’s a lot of expense for what exactly? I won’t be taking my Speed Twin to the track. I just bought a second hand Ducati Supersport to fulfill my knee down cravings and let the Triumph excel where it does. Fantastic bike. At 60, I’m sort of over modding my bike. It’s an age thing. I no longer care. My 999 (currently not on the road) has all sorts of carbon bits but I won’t be modding the Supersport either. It’s fine as it is. Saves a whole heap of cash!

Love the videos. I’m a complete coward when it comes to modifying my bikes but maybe someday I might try an easy cosmetic job! As far as reliability goes I think that’s mostly a legacy of old British bikes from yesteryear... I’ve been round the Triumph factory and seen some of the attention to detail that goes into their bikes and it’s mind-blowing. I’ve just got a new Street Triple RS which is my 4th consecutive Triumph spanning the past 10 years and they’ve given me no trouble (I wouldn’t have kept buying them if they had). Anyway, keep up the good work 👍

Adam; Thought I loved the 1050 Sprint till owning my Speed Twin. Your comments are spot on imo. I added a set of Ackripovic fork inserts to mine. Seems to have made the ride MORE compliant though I've not taken the time to properly set it up as Winter came on. Other than that and paint it's bout like yours. No Vance and Hines or Corbin though. I love it as it is now. No more changes in the future. (Did add peg re-positioners and spongy handlebar grips. Big improvement.)

I have bought mine recently and purchased her in a dealer 500km+ far from my home. So the motorcycle debut was a quite long trip. I was really uncomfortable with that cause I am acquainted with my other bike, a big trail wich I use for such rides. Nevertheless I was surprised with its performance as far as not only it’s inherently power and torque but also its confort, manouverability and stability. Despite being a “naked” bike, I could manage the wind quite easy. So for while I have just installed a sump guard, a crash bar and my Garmin support. Good video as usual and thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. Ride safe🙏

Great video! Just a point, whenever I have swapped rear shocks I have done one side at a time. I guess there must have been a reason why you didn't, maybe the length was different to the standard shocks but even so you could have wound the springs down on one Ohlin before fitting, then wound it back up to match the other when you fitted it?

@juanantoniorosadobenitez9508
@juanantoniorosadobenitez9508 4 жыл бұрын
@@maelsampeur8111 Hi, I think they are enough for a weekend although they are only 10 liters capacity. However, there is a 14 liters version and even other models which use the same rack (sys bag and Urban models). So, in one rack you can use different panniers from sw-motech. The pannier attaches very solid and the brackets are quite discrete when panniers are not attached. Sorry for my poor explanations in English (I live in Spain). For any more details or pictures you can email me juanrosadosva@gmail.com and I will send you with panniers and only bracket.

Thruxton rear shocks, want to upgrade the front suspension, seems like you bought the wrong bike? :) I love that you put the V&H exhaust with the X pipe AND did a sound check! No one seems to do that. I have the X pipe on my Thruxton but still the stock stainless cans. Yours sounds really nice! Can you comment on the use of the booster plug? OH, and if you find yourself doing shocks again, do one at a time. Bike will hold itself up with just one.

Thank you for an entertaining vid! At 3k miles in one year, you've spent more weekends modding than ridding lol. I get it though, I've owned a Speed Triple 995i and a Bonneville SE over the last 20 years and spent the equivalent of a new bike modding them and gearing up for moto camping trips. I enjoy wrenching on bikes especially since we have long winters in Canada. I applaud all your choices as far as mods, all top shelf parts and the licence plate is clean. The Corbin though is on the gaudy side, I hope it's at least comfortable. The stock seat looks much better. I bought a used Corbin (thank God) for my Speed Triple, never liked it. Locked me in the same position and cut the circulation to my nut sack. It was heavy, didn't fit right, gouged my tank and tail, soaked up water like a sponged and kept my ass wet days after. Almost gave the damn thing away. Now my question for you is since you've upgraded your exhaust, cat delete and air filter, have you remapped your ECU? If not, you're not getting anywhere near your investment potential performance wise and most likely running lean which can lead to engine damage. Mike at Triumph Twin Power has been the benchmark for tuning carb and efi twins. I don't know if he's worked on the Speed Twin yet, but it's definitely worth giving him a call, stand up guy. As for me, I've gone to the dark side and impulse bought a blacked out new Yamaha Vmax, or as I like to call it, The Horse of the Apocalypse. There no going back lol.
@AdamCroll
@AdamCroll 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah wrenching is just as fun as the riding sometimes! No Ecu mapping yet, I’m sure it would be beneficial. It doesn’t seem that I’m running lean as it smells rich since I added the booster plug, however I have now hard data to back that up! I’ve always wanted a vmax! When I was in high school a guy in my class had one and rode it to school all the time. I was Jealous! For me I still like the gen 1 over the gen 2 but I’m sure that thing is crazy fun!
@triumphlover7455
@triumphlover7455 4 жыл бұрын
Ahh, well I'll take runnin' a little rich any day vs. runnin' too lean. Btw, if you've tried and liked a Gen 1 Max, snapping the throttle back on a Gen 2 is like being drunk back in college getting your prostate fingered for the first time without a heads up from that chick who was into Bauhaus.

Hi Adam, a couple of questions: where did you purchase the nut/fastener in the middle of the fork? It looks quite well machined. Having purchased the Öhlins shocks, did you think about purchasing the Öhlins cartridges for the fork tubes? By the way, I love my Corbin seat. I don’t understand why you discarded yours. Cheers

The steering stem but is a stock part from the thruxton, got it from the dealership. I will eventually to the fork cartridges! The Corbin seat is ok, but I can’t use it with my rear rack or my saddle bag mounts, I’d have to have it altered. The stock seat has just been more convenient for shorter rides for now.

I have had no issues regarding parts, I had my gear shift sensor go bad and the dealership had it within the week. And when I ordered my Vance and Hines pipes they came from Europe through triumph, and it was no more than a week to receive those as well. This was all when the bike was very new, now that it’s been out for over a year I wouldn’t worry about part supplies.

Great, thank you. It's this or the Z900RS. I want the power but want to be able to just enjoy the ride. Z900 might be to much to hold a steady speed just cruising.

Last year I rode a 2019 Z900 RS and then a Speed Twin. Both have the looks to me in their own ways, but a big factor was the way each put down the power. I enjoyed the drivetrain feel better in the Speed Twin so that's what I got. Z900 RS in the Root Beer color was cheaper, so it had that as a positive, not enough to sway the decision in its favor though. Test ride both back to back if you can, it may be a difference maker.

I was thinking that the Speed Twin would look amazing with the Thruxton Silver spoked rims
@AdamCroll
@AdamCroll 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah they look nice, I would never do it personally though because they are heavier than the stock ST wheels and they would no longer be tubeless. The thruxton needs tubes because of the wheels having spokes. I’ve never trusted tubes over tubeless wheels even though they’ve been used successfully for many years! If they ever made spoked wheels like BMW does with their GS series bikes being tubeless I’d then be extremely tempted!

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the purpose of a yellow headlight?

Looks! I’ve since taken it off. I have seen fog lamps that were yellow though, maybe the yellow light cuts through fog better?

kinda funny that it tops at 130, my street cup tops at 115 too. you'd think that would be pretty low for the engine size

Love the bike man. Any interest in doing a Cam swap? I was looking into a street cup, but I'd rather have the 1200 motor in the speed.

@@AdamCroll I haven't found a video of a cam install yet, but I'm sure when you go that route, that you will post one. I'm happy to see all the parts available for the twin. I'd like to see someone make cams for the street triple 765 engines. BTW, how does the speed twin handle on tight corners? It seems to do well from what I've read. Of course I have no real test ride, but am very interested simply due to having always ridden supersports and sport naked type bikes. I'm interested in a speed as a possible next bike. BTW, Thanks for all the videos Adam. All the little tidbits about California is interesting, especially being that I've never been there.

How tall are you? I have ridden this bike once for a short time and it felt great but I'm not sure how it would do in the long run. I'm 6'4 and currently on a Suzuki gsxs 750 and it feels good. Subscribed. Cheers from Sweden.

I’m 6’, it’s a very comfortable bike, you should be fine and probably even more upright that I am, you could always adjust the handle bar height to fine tune it.

Love this bike but as soon as I sat on it, it was apparent it was too small for my 6'2" frame. Maybe built for a 5'6" guy/ gal!
