Feathers level PRO! Great video! Once I started my first fire with my homemade fire wick a couple years ago, I had to throw it in my primary fire kit. It just works so well, especially when conditions are tough to get a fire. No burnt fingers, reusable for several fires, and a fun project to do during down time!

Fantastic little fire Jim. Good to see the Shirley in action. Have opted for a Shirley as a companion to the Woodsman, mainly as a result of your videos and then a chat with Kevin. Seems like a combination that covers all the bases. 👍😊

That's awesome to hear, I absolutely love my set. Please let me know when you get them in!

Yeah, absolutely must whip up a few of these for the next family practice session around the BBQ pit. I do believe that all the troops will want one in their fire kits after a trial run. The good news is, a DIY project with no expiration date, nothing to dry out, and fail to work, plus all parts are super easy to replace.

The Shirley is my favourite Origin knives knife that I own. My Shirley is also in B-cut. As a stand alone firecraft knife it’s the best I own and when you consider how good it batons for its size, well that’s why I consider the best I have

Nice to see the Shirley in action for a change. 😊 Slow matches are brilliant. I hadn’t heard of them until a friend sent me one he had made. They make a huge difference when lighting a fire, especially if you are working in poor conditions or with poor material because they take the pressure to get ignition almost completely off you. You can then set up properly and take as long as you need applying the match to get the fire started. Won’t be without one in my kit now.

Yeah the poor Shirley gets used everyday but rarely gets on video! Slow match... I knew there was a better term for it, thanks bud

Slow match! That’s great! I’ve always called mine either a tender wick, or a bushcraft bic😂 I like slow match! Sounds great!

@@StandardAmericanCarnivore A bit of history for ya 😊 it’s been around since the 14th century and was originally used to fire “hand cannons” and then later, muskets. It was usually a couple of meters long. You can see them in old drawings and paintings of musketeers. A coil of rope carried on the hip or belt. The origin of the name came from the Greek word “mixa” which means lamp wick. Eventually becoming the French word “meche” and the English “match” Hope that didn’t come across as nerdy or patronising , I just thought it might be of interest and you might know this already anyway. 😂
