An MCU Video Essay Diving into Shuri and why her desire for revenge against Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is justified. This Video Essay explores why Wakanda Forever is perhaps one of the most impactful and emotionally nuanced entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, and explains why Shuri getting Justice for Queen Ramonda would not actually benefit the people of Wakanda.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is perhaps the most emotionally draining of any MCU project to date, but that is because Shuri's journey through the five stages of grief is as realistic as it is unfair.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this analysis. Shuri's struggle with her justified vengeance does not get enough attention and with this movie officially cementing her as my favourite character in the MCU, I truly loved every second of this video.

Thank you! Obviously this movie deals with A LOT of heavy themes but I really felt like the lack of judgment being passed regarding anger was q topic that was under explored. I really enjoyed making this video and to see that it us connecting with people means the world!

And we'll forever be grateful that Shuri didn't kill Namor because we get to see more of him. I'm not siding with Namor, he's an absolute jerk, but he's so much fun to watch, and when he's on your side of the fight, it's gonna feel really good.

I feel like I should clap. Because this was a good insight into the themes of grief, anger, vengeance and how yeah, it can be valid and justified. Shuri really did have a right to kill Namor (he impaled on top of everything else) but she didn't because it wouldn't be good for her people in the long run. And then she finally got to grieve for her brother and her mother. Just 😭

thank you so much for this video. I like how Shuri's arc that being slowly becoming vengeance herself isn't just some part of an act of a movie, it's the WHOLE movie in general. like even the times when she is joking around, she wasn't joking like that as much as the first movie. like even when she is risen as the new black panther, her people see it as hope because they haven't had a black panther in a while, but that scene was just terrifying in general. she's dressing for the wrong reasons; she wants to MURDER someone. and also, that arm wrestling with M'Baku could also symbolizes her not backing down this time, but it's only her anger that's lifting her up, but also holding her down in that scene because it's poisoning her, (which also makes sense to Rihanna first few lyrics of Lift Me Up in a different meaning besides grief) the same girl that always had an amazing mood and energy, is the same woman whose energy and mood is completely drained and will never be the same. but that ending shows that her life is forever changed, but it's not gone, and she was able to realize that while she actually had time to mourn T'Challa and her mother.

another thing like you said, Shuri only told him to yield as a leader for her people because she loved them the most. if Namor actually step down, Shuri would definitely kill him and it would affect no one, not even to Shuri due to all the injustices she has experienced when she is just getting into her adulthood, and she is also like that in the comics too, it's basically Wanda's and Peter's revenge arc, except it feels rawer, real, and better. Overall, Shuri's revenge arc is not just a "revenge arc" it's literally her becoming something that we would have never thought would happen and Ryan slowly build up to it. Although it's an MCU movie, he used real human feelings and themes from the real world, combine with Letitia's acting, which equals to a revenge arc that is more different and better than other revenge arcs, which is honestly one of the biggest highlights of the movie for me. (I'm sorry if this is too long, but I really liked what you said, and I wanted to add more to it lol).

Well said!! I just love how unapogetic the movie is in general. Like the whole point of the last movie was coming out of isolation but when the rest if the world acts like a holes angella basset is justifiably likened gave you a chance and you wasted it. Watch your backs!"

Hey never apologize for being passionate and sharing that. Discussions like this are THE WHOLE reason I started this channel and seeing people like you find something meaningful in my work is incredibly meaningful to me. To your point, it all goes back ti the realism and unapologetic nature of the film. There isn't a "moral to the story" like most films. Instead its a portrait of how reality is indifferent to morality. Actions have consequences, but their not always fair. They just are. Honestly I think this movie would be wwaAaaaay more talked about if it wasn't an mcu film. I think a lot of people write off a lot of the brillaincs that is present because "marvel has been going downhill since whatever movie i didn't like as much as the ones I do like"

@@TheWritersBlockOfficial Exactly. when Shuri couldn't save her brother, and she couldn't save her mother because she told Attuma and Namora to take her and Riri to Namor, it basically causes her a lot of guilt, but in no way's wasn't her fault. her actions did lead to that point, but unlike peter, she didn't have the time to save T'Challa and T'Challa told her at the last minute, and she knew he would attack Wakanda, but did not know he would kill her mother, the only person that was really important in Shuri's life. friends are very important too, but family is on a different level, family is forever no matter what the situation is. Even though Shuri has her nephew, her current and past generations in her bloodline are gone. She has to carry the bloodline by herself, her being alone. But that does make her a wiser and more mature person now, which is what Wakanda needed in the moment. Sometimes the saddest things in your life can help you mature better.. Now, in my opinion, I think it would be better off as a non-MCU film in general. Keep it canon and make it to Phase 4 in the franchise, but also separate itself from the franchise, if Ryan or Kevin did that, it would've made more money in the box office, and would be a perfect movie of mental health without the "Marvel has been going downhill".

Thank you for this upload, an excellent and well detailed assessment of Wakanda Forever and Shuri's tragic arc. This film had such a MASSIVE impact on me. Angela Bassett was phenomenal. I also feel Letitia Wright does not get enough credit. She carried the film so well, considering she had to step up into a role she never originally signed up for. Wakanda Forever is such a powerful film and well within my top 6 MCU movies of all time. Namor was excellent. Even though this film was generally well received, I still don't think it gets enough credit. The script is close to a masterpiece imo. If more MCU directors had the intelligence of Ryan Coogler, the MCU would be in a much better place right now.

I think if this wasn't in the mcu, people would talk about it like The Las of US or other beloved properties. I think because it wasn't what people are used to in a movie with superheroes, many overlooked what it was actually trying to achieve which was much more complex (and not always "FUN" to watch, even if it was amazing
