The war for Apachería and the entire southwest, started in the 1500's with Spanish colonialism and first contact with the Conquistadors. That war ultimately turned into war with Mexico, but culminated into a battle for existence against the US military, Mexico, and American settlers after the Mexican-American war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe.
In this video series we discuss some of that history, the people who fought on both sides, the gear they used and then demonstrate some of it with competitive live fire demonstrations.

The revolvers load surprisingly fast even by modern standards, I would have expected that "ramrod" method to be a lot slower.
@PhycoKrusk
@PhycoKrusk 3 жыл бұрын
Compared to moon or half-moon clips or speed loaders, they _are_ a lot slower. Comparing like to like (loading one cartridge at a time), they are a little slower, but if you get some practice in, you can burn it down. Compared to cap & ball? Like lightning
@LenKusov
@LenKusov 3 жыл бұрын
@@PhycoKrusk Cap and ball's a LITTLE slower with good paper cartridges but not by much, the ramming step is a bit slower because you have to actually seat the bullets properly instead of just punching out empty cases and if you've not got a good capping tool it'll REALLY slow you down, but a decent cap-and-ball gun is surprisingly fast if you take the time to make good cartridges for it. It's especially fast if you use hollow-base conicals, which are undersized until the powder goes off and make seating the bullet a lot less effort, at the cost of some velocity.

@@charlessalmond7076 Aside from my 1851 Navy repro, I've avoided single action revolvers due to the reloading hassle. Traditional cavalry round ball spurs are actually considered extremely aggressive. Generally the larger spurs with far larger rowels, have greater surface area and are less aggressive to your animal. Cavalry did not have the luxury of constantly training their animals themselves constantly therefore had to have high response out of their horses. Again wonderful video!
