What We Miss!!

The winter season here at the South Pole is officially half over, which of course it means it’s time to celebrate! However, after spending this long in isolation, the thoughts of things you miss start to creep into your mind. So for this special Midwinter video, I decided to go around and ask some of my fellow Polies what they are missing from the real world!! 🙌

I am currently living and working at the South Pole Station through the United States Antarctic Program. I am not down here as a filmmaker or photographer, but instead work in the Logistics and Supply department. All of these videos are being made during my free time and not during working hours. We are very busy down here keeping the station running at maximum efficiency, but I have managed to find some free time to make these short movies!

As usual, I'm late to the party, but I just wanted to leave a note here that I have been enjoying your videos of life on Antarctica. As I will never be able to experience it myself, I have enjoyed living vicariously through others who have. Thank you for sharing these!

I like the solitude. I could spend winter in a hut. All I need is my coffee and and an array of books. Hearing the blizzard outside is a dream come true. Im a different soul I suppose.

I just saw this for the first time. Thanks for allowing me to see my brother Dave (6:57 mark)!! Wish I had seen it sooner. He is there again for the winter 2020 season. Is it too late for me to send him a box for mid-winter 2020?

Of course!! Him and I were really close ☺️ And yeah, I talked to him pretty recently! Sadly it is too late to send a box down there, even two weeks ago. You need to do that by like November or December the year before.

Might sound dumb, but I think I’d miss sunsets and sunrises. I just love the landscapes and colors, not having them at all would be a bit sad to me.

I just found you and started binging watching your videos they are amazing! I have watched alot of antartica content but yours is truly my favorite thank you! Any chance you can do a video on the kitchen and chefs?? Being a cook myself I would find it awsome to hear and see their side of things! Thanks again

That really means a lot and I’m super happy that you’re enjoying the videos ☺️ Sadly I won’t be able to do any more videos because my contract is over and I’ve already left the Pole! However there will be more videos that I’ve already filmed, but I can’t make anything new! I’m sorry! However I did film a station tour that will be coming out and I show a little glimpse of the galley in that video! 🙌 Thanks again ☺️

Oh man I wish we did!! A four-legged furry friend would be a total game changer. They used to have a dog down here but they sadly stopped doing that years ago. But thank you so much and I definitely will :)

I would miss the dogs I take care, the sun, Açaí a really good brazilian food. And rain, too!!!! I Love the rain, the scent of It!!!! Could never imagine how It would be, living without those things. Maybe one day you'll miss this place where you are today. That is so crazy! Loved the vídeo, really really nice! 😍

Oh yeah, I definitely miss all those things!! Especially the rain :P But it's pretty amazing when you get to leave and have all those things for the first time again :) And true! I do remember missing parts about it after I left last time. But I guess that's why I came back ;P

@@GoneVenturing If I could, I would do the same as you. Travel, discover, share with other people. I've always loved the nature, since I was little I used to go camping, used to be in the middle of the nature surrounded by animals, by the sound of all this thing. That was and still is, happiness to me. A few years ago I was rock climbing a lot, it was the best thing in life. It is something I can not express and I'm sure you know exactly was it feels like. You have that glow in the eyes, that anergy... That's why I needed to tell you how happy your videos make me, and the importance of them nowadays. You are really really special I wish we were friends lol ahahja. Xoxo 😍😍😍

Great video! I had no idea that y’all didn’t have any weather! That’s crazy! I would miss sunshine, trees, weather (I love clouds and rain!) and animals and grass and green nature most.

Thank you so much!! Yeah, it’s basically cold and windy or cold and not windy 😝 that’s pretty much it! It doesn’t even really snow since it’s a desert! But I’m with you!! I’m so excited to see those things in the real world again 😊

Gone Venturing wow! No snow either?! I had no idea it was a desert and I never gave any thought to weather at the north or south poles. So interesting! I am in Dallas Texas and it just started raining and thundering here so I’m sending some of that energetically to you! 😆Lol 😀🌦☔️🌩

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! But I’m not sure yet! There is a good chance I’ll go back next year, but only for the summer. I need some time off from the winters, and I might even be done with that in general. It’s a long time.. hahah. But thank you so much! I’m really glad you’re enjoying them ☺️☺️ There are some more South Pole videos on the way, I’ve just had some stuff going on in life right now. Haha. But they’re coming! 🙌

Do you mean the Happy Lamps? We do indeed! You can get one from Medical if you ask for it! Personally, I don't have one, but I take Vitamin D supplements instead!

Why wouldn't you be able to have a few cats there? They wouldn't have to go out to do their business and they wouldn't need as much food as a dog. Just curious.
