Doctor Anne here with the question: Which ingredients work for anti aging? If you want proven anti aging ingredients to incorporate into your skin care routine, here is a list of my five essentials!
Time stamps and product recommendations are below!
Oh, and if you want to know when to best include each of them into into your routine, just check out this video here:
When should I start using anti-aging products? • When should I start us...
5 proven anti aging skin care ingredients:
1. Sunscreen - 00:20
2. Hyaluronic Acid - 01:20
3. Antioxidants - 02:09
4. Retinoid - 03:04
5. Peptides - 04:11
And no, I did not include chemical exfoliants into the list, although I love them. Why? Because they can be hard to pair with retinoids, and if I had to choose (the world isn´t always perfect), I´d go with retinoids for anti aging.

Pheeew, I’m using every single one of these! Peptide-wise my latest discovery is The Ordinary Buffet + Copper Peptides. It’s more expensive than regular Buffet, but I like it even better. I don’t know if it’s all in my head, but I think copper peptides help my skin recuperate faster after blemishes.

I don't know mush about anti aging or skincare ingredients but I agree sunscreen is so important! I got my worst sunburn surfing on a showery and cloudy day one day, haha! So I always wear sunscreen! I have that Ordinary hyaluronic acid serum and I think it's great - I feel and see a difference when I use it and so I'm pleased to see that on your list.

I think even without knowing much about anti aging ingredients you can already do a lot if you are sensible with your spf. And with that down and Hyaluronic Acid already in your routine, you are exactly where you need to be, you are still young. Maybe add an antioxidant, but I bet one of your products already has one included, so you should be all set.

No one on Instagram had sunscreen, I think people don´t see it as "ingredient" for anti-aging. And technically that´s right, it isn´t an ingredient per se, but I still wanted to mention it as it is so important! I would have picked acids and Niacinamide too, if I had allowed myself more than 5.

While I don´t think it would hurt, I would suggest investing in a Vitamin C serum instead. The added retinol in the cream won´t bring much benefit opposed to Tretinoin and the serum has most likely more Vitamin C than the cream

Make sure to give each layer time to fully absorb and see if you have many silicones in your serum, moisturizer or your SPF, that can encourage pilling.

Hello Dr anne, I was wondering if you exfoliate at all ? And if so how often do you exfoliate ? how often do you reccomend we exfoliate per week?.....I use Paulas Choice 2% salicylic acid,I soak a cotton pad and swipe it over my face every morning...Paula mentions that her exfoliants are so gentle that we can use them morning and night, I don't as I use retinol at night....Im afraid if i dont use it every morning that my blackheads and breakouts will not be managed...any feedback would be helpful...my skin type is sensitive combination.....thankyou,katie
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Katie, which retinoid do you use? Using a retinol daily and the a salicylic acid daily as well sounds a lot too me, as retinoids do have an exfoliating effect on their own. 2% Salicylic Acid is the maximum concentration that is allowed to be sold OTC, so I wouldn’t call a 2% BHA product gentle, at least not in terms of exfoliation strength. The PC products contain a lot of soothing and hydrating ingredients to take the sting off, but that doesn’t reduce the potency. I use my salicylic acid once a week and personally don’t think more than twice a week is necessary, too much can irritate your skin and be the cause of your breakouts. Have you watched my video on a Damaged Skin Barrier? I explain in there why. Bottom line is: If your skin is fine with your current regimen, I wouldn’t change it, as it apparently works for you. But if you feel like your skin is irritated, you get dry patches or similar, I would reduce the Salicylic Acid frequency. If I know which retinoid you are using, I can tell you a little more.
@ridgeforrester5199

@@DoctorAnne thankyou for getting back to me I really appreciate your knowledge..Well my skin is quiet irritated,red, and sometimes itchy,its a mess really..I have started a skin barrier repair routine(this is my first day)thanks to your video,and I hope to get my skin back into shape..(then i will start exfoliating once a week and applying retinol as often as you reccomend).I'm not using any exfoliants or retinol for 1 month,will that be plenty of time to heal my barrier ? I used perscription retin a (retrieve 0.5%) up until about a month ago,but decided after 5 years of use every night it may have been compromising my barrier as well as exfoliating too frequently because i developed overly sensitive skin with rashes occasionally so i decided to start using a lower strength product which is the Paulas choice 1% clinical retinol treatment..I am also dealing with food allergies which I'm working through with a dietitian at the moment which can cause a lot of burning,redness and hives,so it's pretty complex and I'm exhausted with it all..
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 4 жыл бұрын
That really sounds like a lot, poor you. A month should be enough, but your skin will tell you best. Did you exfoliate while you were using the prescription strength? Retin A is usually so potent it doesn’t require additional exfoliation. Have you seen a dermatologist recently? Or did you get your prescription from a GP?

Always with Salicylic Acid? Or did you try other acids as well, like PHAs or Azelaic or Mandelic? I´d recommend you see a dermatologist to get some help with your skin. KZfaq videos can only do so much, they can never take the place of someone actually seeing and touching your skin.

I'm confused about how Hyaluronic Acid can be considered an "anti-aging" ingredient ...it imparts temporary surface hydration. How is that "anti-aging?" I'm all for hydration but I think it's completely inaccurate to call Hyaluronic Acid an "anti-aging" ingredient. You didn't even explain how Hyaluronic Acid is anti-aging like you did with all of the other ingredients. I'm absolutely not convinced that Hyaluronic Acid is anti-aging in any way, shape or form. It hydrates the skin. Temporarily, while it's on the skin..that's it..
@DoctorAnne
@DoctorAnne 4 жыл бұрын
Hydration has a superficial immediate effect in plumping the skin, but it also improves theskins barrier function by plumping it, which in turn reduces TEWL and the risk of allergens penetrating the skin, so it reduces inflammation. Inflammation is the main driving point for premature aging, so... There was a study done last year that showed that applying a basic moisturizer, no extras, did reduce the Inflammation markers in the blood stream. Did that answer your question sufficiently?
@e.a.4926
@e.a.4926 4 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorAnne so Hyaluronic Acid has a transient, *cosmetic* plumping effect? And *any* moisturizer would function as an inflammation reducer, correct? It doesn't have to be Hyaluronic Acid? I'm just trying to understand..

@@e.a.4926 Hyaluronic has a transient cosmetic plumping effect AND a lasting effect because it helps with barrier function. And no, it doesn’t have to be Hyaluronic Acid, but a humectant. Glycerin would work as well. So it can be any humectant containing moisturizer.
