🥾EPISODE 4
I was excited to hike the new The Tamara Coast To Coast Way, an 87 mile hike along the Devon-Cornwall border, but it was SO BAD I bailed. I never thought I'd see the day: it's the first time I've ever bailed on a hike - and it didn't feel good.
👋Hello!
Thanks for joining me for the final video of my hiking trail vlogs from the Tamara Coast to Coast Way. I hope you enjoy a bit of a rant, because I go off on one - it's all about the endless tarmac, traffic, lack of places to get food and water (without going miles off trail), and worst of all, a serious lack of views.
I left the Tamara Way 20 miles from the official end and hiked into the coastal town of Bude instead - so I still walked coast to coast. (I've hiked the last few miles of trail before though and that bit's worth it, but the 15 miles inbetween? No thanks.) Good call: watch till the end for a rainy explore of the wondrous geology on the beach. Better than tarmac any day.
Here's to the next hiking adventure, hopefully one that'll have me raving and not ranting!
Thanks for watching❤️
I'd really appreciate it and if you 'like and subscribe' (don't forget to tap the bell for notifications of the next upload) it'll make my day 😊
Until next time, happy hiking
Stephie x

Im so glad you did an honest warts n all video. Its made to look lovely on the tv and in the book but its a nightmare of a walk, fraught with issues. The need for water is so important...no thought went into this trail at all.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I've heard other people grumble, but no one has said exactly what I thought - ie no thought given to it all. It would have been so much better to just make a lovely coast to coast trail rather than try and keep as close to the Tamar as possible (which is miles off anyway) for what feels like the sake of it. Thanks you for saying hello!

Stephie, this trail has to be the most poorly planned and routed in the UK, there can't be many people who would relish tackling it. Well, apart from a few masochists! I don't blame you for bailing at all, in fact I congratulate you cos we got a few glimpses of lovely Bude. Where is the official end? At least you can finish posting your Offa's Dyke hike now. Bev.

You should buy yourself a water filter bottle, it’s a game changer on a through hike . But I’ve enjoyed your videos, I am in Cornwall to . Thanks for sharing your experience of this trail 😊

I don't use my water filter in Cornwall because of all the heavy metals due to mining and the run offs from farms, but it's great on places like Dartmoor. And there were miles and miles of this trail where you just aren't near any water sources anyway - which is ironic since it's supposed to follow the river Tamar! Thanks for watching too, I really appreciate it :)

Love you're honestly with how you felt about this trail! Totally understand. We cheated on a few lanes by hitching hiking. ( probably not the safest idea if you're alone) It actually added to the trail as we met a few very interesting and kind people. It was still pretty grotty, though, i was really moaning to my friend saying that this trail could put me off hiking! 😅 xx

Hahaha! I have a friend who mentioned on the official FB page to be careful of the roads and her comment was taken down because "we're promoting the trail and don't want negative comments" - I was speechless, which doesn't happen often!!! I've never hitchhiked before, because I'm on my own as you say, but that would have been an awesome way to do it. And you're right, it's the lovely people you meet that make it. There was even a couple near Calstock who invited me to stay. I thought they meant camp in their garden, but no they gave me a bed, a meal and a shower - absolutely incredible. I might forget the trail but I'll never forget that.

I share your pain regarding cars bombing along the backroads - they go too fast and modern cars are honking great big things that fill the lanes up leaving little room left for we walkers and cyclists. Electric cars are doubly bad though 'cos you can't hear the beggars coming 🤣 It's a shame this trail didn't live up to its billing, some parts of it looked good, but long stretches were pretty unappealing by the look and sound of it. Walking 80 miles is quite something, and your criticisms are valid, so ignore those who say you shouldn't moan! Anyway, I hope your feet recovered quickly and you're not put off trying new trails out! Best wishes, take care and have fun! 👍

Thanks Mick, cars can be pretty scary can't they - it doesn't take much to knock over a cyclist or pedestrian. I think it's such a shame, a real missed opportunity and I'm definitely not the only one that thinks so! Someone I know left a comment on the official FB page and had it taken down simply because she said be careful of the traffic - she got a message saying they're trying to promote the trail so don't leave negative comments!!! Well, they can't shut me up here 🤣🤣 I'm off for an impromptu bivvy tonight, hopefully I'll catch a good sunset! Have a lovely evening Mick - and see you next week for part 2 of Offa's Dyke Path, if you can bear it 😂

@@stephie_10milehike It would be better if they took criticisms on board on the FB page and addressed them rather than trying to hide them, but that's the way of things these days unfortunately. Hopefully any hikers researching the route will find your video so they can decide whether to do it or not, while being fully informed. Thank you - you have a lovely evening as well - hopefully you'll get a good sunset, and maybe a good sunrise as well - fingers crossed! Oh I can bear it alright, looking forward to it, and more videos of your various adventures in the future too hopefully! Take care, have fun! 👍

No sunset Mick, but the sunrise was sublime. I can't recall the last time I saw something as beautiful. I plan to get the final Offa's Dyke video up this week and the following one will be this bivvy - it was too got not to share! What are you up to this weekend?

@@stephie_10milehike Sunsets are great, but sunrises so much better at this time of year, mainly because they're so early and everywhere is still and quiet. Best time of the day by far! Looking forward to the next videos - keep 'em coming! 👍 Not sure what I'm up to this weekend - I want a decent ride and it's a toss up between going to Perranporth, St Agnes using the Saint's Trail to Chiverton and then back through Tregavethan and Shortlanesend and Idless, or going down to London Apprentice, up towards Charlestown but turning right, then left and exploring some bridleways before dropping down into Pentewan, then back via Heligan, lanes to Hewas Water and Ladock back to St Erme. Can't make my mind up 🤔😂 Hope you get out and about this weekend too, but whatever you get up to, have fun! 👍

Exactly! And failing that the coast around Bude (including the official end of the trail) is spectacular. It says something when even the very first signpost on the trail is wrong! It's in the intro - see if you can spot it, if you can bear to watch it again 🤣😬 Promise the next vid will be positive - I'm off for a bivvy on the coast!

They built up the hype for this Tamara Way for years saying its going to a purpose built long distance hike when in reality they just stuck a few signs on posts on already existing routes. It cost £3.2 Million as well, where was that money invested? On signage?!
@stephie_10milehike
@stephie_10milehike 13 күн бұрын
You're joking, that much money? WTAF did they spend it on? 35 miles of the trail was already there! And they got the first bleddy sign wrong hahahaha!

I did do something, I walked 80 miles. It's difficult to be positive about a hiking trail that's 70% road, and I think other people should be aware of that before they take it on. I suggest if you really don't care and don't like it, don't watch it. Go and do something else. Have a lovely day 😊

@@Playstation-Trains23 Click bait? I wouldn't know how if I tried. I continued walking in the vain hope the trail would get better.
