GioGio 女神転生 I'm kinda glad they went the different path. Regular crossovers are usually bad, so creating a new franchise using the 2 properties was pretty smart imo.

***** ?? i hate censorship it means that the game is gimped and i don't play forced gimped games made by the moral police as for SMT X FE this teaser is the reason why im going to skip that high school musical crap the game has no main SMT charecters nor FE in it the only reference it has is the DLC customs they showed the main SMT heros one of the most darkest religious Hippocratic themed games of all times and most of those SMT heroes in the teaser were killed off in there own games the fact that it used that teaser to sell the game is a nice way to turn ppl off by giving them false hype i don't blame atlus but i do blame nintando for making this teaser and above all that its going to get censored for the kids on a region locked console that can only plays censored games....yay.

17Haru17 That's what I'm saying, people had their own idea in their head of what the game should be. They made it absolute and anything that didnt live up to their own preception they cry. Its also one trailer that only showed some character remodeling and graphic style. They have yet to go over the story, battle system, and other gameplay concepts. People assumed the game the first time now the making pre-judgment the second time, just wow...

+Brenden Patterson There's also the fact that this game was literally called Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. The X literally means "cross", as in "crossover". There was absolutely no reason not to believe that this game was going to be a crossover.

The trailer itself gave the expectation that it was going to be mainline SMT and FE, and last time I checked, J-Pop idols have nothing to do with either.

danfordUN Because Nintendo shat this teaser out before Atlus themselves knew what the game was going to be. Basically, Atlus told Nintendo that they were making a game with the FE crew, and Nintendo assumed that it'd be something like this. Teasers can be misleading.

Dragonage2ftw That doesn't make any sense. If Nintendo showed us this trailer BEFORE Atlus knew what this game was going to be about, then wouldn't they have designed the game based on people's expectations of this game? I understand this logic if it was done AFTER Atlus decided to make this game; then would it be Nintendo's fault. But in this case, Atlus should've gotten an idea of what people expected if they've seen the trailer themsevles. So if anything, Atlus still messed up on this by not going by the expectations people had in this game and made something completely different that doesn't appeal to anyone. And even if this game was never intended to be an actual crossover, the trailers were still shown around the world. Why they decided to make something that would only appeal to their own nation's audience doesn't make sense, unless if the developers of Atlus are really that clueless to the outside world.

All they had to do was make Devil Survivor's combat, change up some aspects, loosely attach a plot to it, and call it a day. The fact that they couldn't even do that makes me furious, seeing that they tried to appeal to the weeb/otaku, idol loving demographic instead of fanbases that already existed.

+SamBeta20 But even then can the story fail. Devil Survivor 2 had a decent narrative, but the Fate system ruined it overall story by making it more Persona 4-ish despite having a setting similar to mainline SMT.

Oh oh boy oh boy it's going to be grrrreat! Fire Emblem has themes in hope in the grim realities of war and SMT is about choice, morality and the darkness in humans and gods, it's themes of chaos versus order or defying them are present in every game sounds like the perfect crossover, with a clear and obvious path to take! This is going to be pleasantly grim i'm sure of it!!!

Why people want Persona characters, Considering Persona takes place in a modern era, and both Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem games take places in various eras before Persona, it would be unfitting for the Persona characters to be in such a era. As much as I like Persona, it's something that I don't really see working.

SMT games take place in the post apocalypse or the pre-apocalypse, they don't really happen before modern times, closest would be SMT1 which takes place in the 80s more or less.

At E3 2014 in June 2014, Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami said that despite the lack of updates since its announcement, the game is still being developed, and that things are going according to schedule, but that he could not reveal any more details at the time.

+Jorge Bernal It probably went wrong when these two series were casualized and animu'd by Persona 4 and FE: Awakening, which became popular enough to convince Atlus to make the game like this instead of an actual crossover.

+Jorge Bernal Apparently the composer is the same one as from Love Live, while I can't confirm, from what I've heard it seems he was doing more than just composing and actually had a hand in the development. How much I don't know, but judging from how the game ended up I would guess a fair bit. He even made a cameo of himself in the game.

+Kalamari Mainline Shin Megami Tensei is a far better series than Persona in the same way that J. R. R. Tolkien is a far better author than J.K. Rowling. I'm not sure about the first 3 games of Persona, though, as they were far more faithful to the SMT names as they are now.

+zangetsu9196 It's not good for anyone to think like that. I understand if the game ended up sucking, but it's not right for any company to get people's hopes up only to make something unrecognizable that none of the fans wanted.

danfordUN From the looks of things, not even Japanese gamers wanted the FExSMT game we actually got given how it flopped in sales. I don't see it doing much better on international releases either.

zangetsu9196 Yeah, I know. It's as if they forgot that both series originated in Japan and had their own fans who wouldn't approved of this. Either that, or they didn't care about them at all and wanted to appeal to the casuals who bought into games like Persona 4 or FE:Awakening because it's "animu". Good riddance, though. Maybe now Atlus would get the message.

+danfordUN From what I've heard, the Japanese didn't like how the game turned out, which is a surprise as I thought that at least they would like it as its a game that's much more Japanese than the usual FE and SMT fare. I get that maybe Atlus wanted to experiment with a different crossover formula but this one was too radically different from what anyone expected.

zangetsu9196 I think it may have succeeded well if it was its own thing, but the fact that it was associated with two series that had nothing to do with J-Pop gave a bad stigma to the game. Most of the Japanese audience who are into J-Pop music heavily wouldn't look into games like SMT or FE for their kicks, and instead go for something like Idolmaster and Hatsune Miku rhythm games, two franchises that have always been about J-Pop. If anything, it being SMT X FE hurt the game much more than helping it, especially since it came at the cost of alienating their longtime fans. Suffice to say, Atlus really did drop the ball on this one even if the game ended up being good.

I'm saying Yoshi's Wooly World isn't out yet, and the game was first announced back in January 2013. It's January 2015 now, but we know it will come out! SMTxFE just may need more time. Also, the SMTxFE announcement was made during Atlus' time with Index. Now they're with Sega, and they probably needed to adjust to that first before beginning or resuming to the collaboration

Santa Bane This was nothing. Heck, judging by how long it took for actual footage of the game to be shown seems to indicate they just barely started working on it back then. There were no promises other than some sort of crossover. Heck, there wasn't even any guarantee that the characters shown in this teaser were going to be in this game. I'm rather excited at the potential of this game. SMT X FE looks to be more than your typical crossover game. Instead of characters from both franchises teaming up, we have a merging of themes and aspects from both titles. I find that much more creative.

This game is like No man's sky. We were promised something great out of two JRPG giants but turn into something unrecognizable and not was promised to us. I mean what was Tokyo mirage session suppose to be? It showed only the Fire emblem characters Like Chrom and Tharja but no Shin megami tensei characters and just SMT game play elements and the way it's battle's play. I hope they do this cross over again and do it right. Cause i really and truly want a game where Shin megami tensei and fire emblem cross over where fire emblem characters meet Shin megami tensei characters and fight a common enemy that pulled them from their worlds and time lines.

Or they could fight each other through some kind of misunderstanding, while a 3rd party (possibly a team-up of Gharnef and Zayin (Satan)) will take over the 2nd act. Then the 3rd act will have the true main villain (Emperor Medeus) tap into the power of the demons. Then, at the end of it all, the True Final Boss... YHVH!!!!!!!
