This will be a very interesting experiment, looking forward to seeing the results at the end of the season.

Very interested to see how this turns out. Lead shot does seem to be on the way out. So as much info and options that becomes available the better.

I still don't know why so many people insist on having chokes bored out so as to use steel shot. I have a couple of fixed choked full/full guns that have had plenty of large steel through them with 0 ill effects. I also put 5mm steel through my .705 extended multi choked 10.

Really enjoying these shows with the wildfowlers. This topic of lead shot has made me curious as to the level of lead in the ground at clay shoots. I’d be surprised if the environmental regulators don’t have it on their radar too.

They have been chipping away for years, and surprisingly the evidence is actually that shooters don’t cause that much environmental damage! It is only a matter of time however until further restrictions are imposed, science or no

Like the UK, non toxic shot is required for waterfowl hunting, but not yet for upland game in much of the US. In California, lead will be banned from for all hunting (both large and small game) as of July 2019. Some shooting ranges have also begun to require it. I believe outdoor ranges must have plans in place to reclaim all lead projectiles.

I believe current private game clubs will be permitted to continue to use lead shot for a while longer in California, though I'm not certain of that. Someone I know won a Fausti shotgun at a Ducks Unlimited dinner but didn't want it and had never fired it, so I bought it recently to have a shotgun that was steel proofed. (I figured I wasn't going to find anything I liked better for the price I paid). It's my first gun with screw in chokes, but I note that the full and improved modified chokes are marked "No Steel Shot". Interesting video guys. I enjoy watching them.

Would be nice to translate the proof and service pressures into units with which more of us are familiar, e.g. PSI. My bad: Just noticed that Google does that easily...of course.

What model is that?

I'm prepared to put a reasonable some of money , on the fact they will not have worn one thou with the amount of cartridges that Nick will put through in this period of time .I would think you would need to put 50,000 rounds through to get some sought of noticeable wear to the gun tested.I think it's a great idea John to do this test ,I hope I'm proven wrong ,and nobody takes up my bet ha ha . Great vid, regards to all.

I am interested to see how it goes, but I think given the few hundred cartridges, my gauges wouldn’t be accurate enough to gauge any loss present. Only one way to find out!

STEEL SHOT IS CRAP. PURE AND SIMPLE . NO CONTEST AGAINST LEAD.
