When the first season aired there were two different versions - Canadian cut and US cut. The Canadian was about 5 min longer, so they would insert these "filler" scenes like the one where they repeat a bunch of dialogue and have Nick brooding in the loft. Sometimes they shortened the flashbacks such as the one in Last Act where we learn that vampires share each other's memories and feelings by sharing their blood. When FK originally aired the US audience didn't learn about the deep meaning behind blood sharing until Francesca in season 3. Luckily, the dvd sets included the full Canadian cuts except for Dark Knight part 1 which is the CBS version. There was even a European cut of the first few episodes that included nudity, but the actors felt uncomfortable, so they quit filming those after a couple episodes. Just some fun trivia from a diehard fan. 😊

I like the idea that they're immediately accepting of the psychic because in this world there are psychics for whom this is just a mundane profession, just something you go get an AA to learn how to do then get incidental work performing, like a notary.

@@asmodiusjones9563 I love the idea of OfficeTeam doing psychic aptitude tests and places selling scam psychic certifications. People who know better are like, "No, don't bother with these, they should know well enough if you're psychic from the interviewing process!" And some actual psychic is mad because their temp agency only rated them as proficient instead of expert--because the test had too many clairvoyance questions and nothing about psychometry. (I'm still a little traumatized by being repeatedly tested on pivot tables, yes.)

I wish more series were so casual about their urban fantasy elements. Most of the time magic has to be hidden, and even when it's not it's still a Big Special Deal. Maybe magic can't be as mundane as sidewalks or bread, but it can definitely be as mundane as electricity or cars.

It's the entire basis of the satanic panic. The guy who pioneered the concept wrote a book with the client whose "memories" he "unlocked" which has been used to put multiple Innocent people in prison for abuse that would literally have been impossible, and after that, he MARRIED HER.

My dad had actual physical books on things like out of body experiences and "pyramid power", at the time. They were in the non-fiction section, and I assume still are. But in the early 90s, there was really no way to find out if something you read had been debunked. The internet changed so much, but I admit that the world seemed a lot more *interesting* when I was a kid.

I love how nearly every flashback seems to be an excuse to get Nick into another kind of wig. I kind of wish the later episodes they run out of more "conventional" ones, leading to the costume department getting creative and we get flashbacks with him wearing wigs like a bright green beehive hairdo, dreadlocks, and pigtails with bright pink bows. I don't even want it to match the setting, so he'll be in Old West times with the beehive, and nobody even comments on it, it's just a thing that is there.

This one ticks off so many boxes on the old early 90's TV bingo card. I bet there were a ton of ads during this show for 1-900 psychic hotlines. This was the kind of show they would be all over. I also just want to say that the wigs in this show are all so amazing. I can only imagine what their wig budget was.

notes on kale: - is a highly sprayed vegetable, levels of pesticide are higher so rinse well or buy organic - raw kale has fibrous cell walls that may prevent your body from absorbing nutrients(breaking those cell walls in a smoothie probably works, but wasn't mentioned in articles I read) - cooking reduces antioxidants slightly; steaming is good for digestion and retaining nutrients, or lightly massaging before consumption - watch your intake if you have hypothyroidism, as it can impair iodine absorption and negatively impact metabolism(if your thyroid is ok there's no need to worry about this) - is high in vitamin K, which can impact blood thinning medications if you're eating a lot of kale every day - other leafy vegetables that are as good for you or better than kale: parsley, watercress, collard greens, spinach, chard, Chinese cabbage, romaine or leaf lettuce, beet greens, chicory (aka curly endive or radicchio) I really want a salad now....

Some police departments do have "homicide" detectives investigate lots of serious crimes that are rare enough to not warrant their own department. So in many cities they would send our dynamic duo out for a kidnapping (that's not obvious done by a non-custodial parent, which is most kidnappings). No idea if that's the case in Toronto! Anyway, loving this series!

Psychics in TV and movies are kinda given the inverse treatment to ghosts. In TV and movies if a chair moves across the floor on its own, everyone refuses to accept it and blames "the wind." In real life, if there's an innocuous bump heard from another room, everyone immediately defaults to "its absolutely ghosts."

Not many people in the 90s knew how to make tofu taste great, there wasn't any cooking youtube, and people were still mostly working from cookbooks from the 70s and 80s, which didn't include it. This was the same decade that had an endless cavalcade of "Sushi? Isn't that raw fish?" jokes. It's easy to make tofu taste great now, because it's easy to look up how; it was not obvious at the time.

Fun Kale Fact: the number one purchaser of Kale before it was hailed as a superfood was Pizza Hut. They used it to decorate their salad bars. If you are time traveling to the 90s to grab a CRT and the VHS copies of Forever Knight, but you want to eat healthy, hit up a Pizza Hut with a salad bar and freak people out. Maybe steal a plastic cup or two. From the back. And one of those amazing chandeliers - they're just gonna tear them out when they shut down the Huts, just steal it right before one is gonna shut down. You know I'm right, time travel is all about selling stuff from the past so that you have enough gold bullion to get money from 1885 before you defeat Biff Tannen at high noon with a trick from a western. That's just time travel 101.

The paranormal resonance and spiritual power of the jazzercise exercise routines should never be underestimated. If Sauron has practiced jazzercise exercise then there would have been no hope for Middle Earth. None. It all would have just been one movie, just Sauron's triumph and lasting only 35 minutes long! There would not even be 2 other movies! There would not have been even a single Hobbit movie...hey...hmmmm...nah, it would have spelled jazzerpocalyptic doom for Middle Earth!

I can't remember if I've said this yet but I went to classes with a psychic in a group for almost a year and she did, indeed, get most of her work from the police department. They did not want people to know that, it could probably mess up a case, but they used her to get an idea of who did it or didn't do it and I guess it worked? I remember being skeptical at the time but I've done well a few times with 'remote viewing' and that convinced me, I don't expect it to convince anyone else, also most psychics are frauds. Bummer.

So about Schanke and eating food that doesn't taste good. I think he is most likely being a bit of a coddled baby, but: A KZfaq dietician I trust keeps repeating over and over that its important to eat stuff that tastes good when you're cooking for yourself - the most common scenario when you don't is that you start avoiding cooking and eating until you gorge out on something really unhealthy that does taste good. So balance is important. There's also an honest to dog eating disorder where people need to very strictly observe heqlthy diets to the point that something that doesn't meet their unreasonably high standards makes them sick in psychosomatic ways. (This is distinct from genuine food sensitivities where you mostly just need to avoid some ingredients and stuff derived from them.) Anyway, hope Mildo (and anyone reading this) is not skewing too far to any dietary extreme.

7:14 I have to disagree, tofu at its worst tastes like when my dentist puts his rubber gloves in my mouth. It takes a surprising amount of seasoning to cover that up sometimes. If you go too light, the underlying aroma of sad rubbery blandness will come through as you chew on it.

This reminds me of a show that was specifically about a psychic lady. I don't remember what it was called. There was this lady working with a sceptical cop solving crimes together. It started interesting but quickly soured for me because it had an anti-abortion episode (boohoo! Spooky "baby" haunting its not mother). Also the psychic dies at the end and manages to get the cop to believe in ghosts "from the other side". It's really dumb

I think Mildo is making good natured fun of the show, which is made easier by the fact that it's trying to be dark in earnest but not doing a great job of it. There's nice vibes, someone tried their best, it still misses the mark and I think Mildo is making a metamodernist appreciation of both sides of that coin.
