Intending to make a traditional Brown Windsor essential oil soap for the first time and not expecting extreme acceleration.

I kept waiting for something to go "really wrong"... I was expecting you to drop the whole slab all over the floor or something.... Nope, just a slightly faster trace than normal. Soapmaking is meant to be calming and relaxing. It's an art... enjoy the process. The soap was beautiful. I think some people create their own chaos.

good lord woman u need to take a breath, it's just a lil faster trace, not the end of the world. I kept waiting for something really bad to happen!!! I think u should re-name this video and calm the hell down!

Holy crap, I need a xanax. That was beyond stressful. I've seen woman in labor calmer than this.

I know what you mean. I love big batch soap making too. It's either "Go big or go home" LOL. But a big batch can get away from you and really put you to work. You mastered this one though. Fantastic work! 👍🏾

You just didn't seem in the right frame of mind for soaping this day. Wish my batter would stay as fluid as this.

Thanks Cindee for the nice words. I have a soap hutch log splitter/cutter and use that but we have found that when I have to adjust for different log sizes like when I have to make two cuts into a big block mold or have a different cut size for a private label account it is a pain to switch the wires. So my husband is making a splitter where the wire is vertical and will allow for different cut sizes such as 2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch which is what I need.
@mapleflagg77447 жыл бұрын
I think this was a resounding success! I know it may have gotten a bit thicker than you expected but the final product was fantastic. I love to see big batches being made and not only did you make a big batch but you did it exceptionally well! I love it!!!! 😊

It is a masterpiece. I get not the vision you had but so much soap! Amazing. I was cheering for you! How do you cut such a huge piece of soap?
@LondonSudssoap9 жыл бұрын
This completely reminds me of a Blood Orange soap I made, the acceleration, the thickness of the soap when you were swirling the top, that big slab of soap sold out fast, and something tells me this soap did too ;)
@marlo93805 жыл бұрын
This turned out great! I know it wasn't your vision but it's great! You're one strong lady! I could've never lifted that soap!

I see I'm not the only one trying to figure out what went wrong...all I see is a nice thick trace. .run a dowel through it, smack it down a few more times and decorate the top. I was expecting to see a volcano or an epic seize!
@RiverCountySoapworks11 жыл бұрын
Super! Thank you for the tip! I'll pick some up today.
@petalsbathboutique11 жыл бұрын
As someone who prefers to soap at a thinner trace, I totally get your frustration. BUT, I must say, I think you're going to have a pretty cool swirl in there. Can't wait to see the cut bars :0)

Thank you! They did turn out pretty I think. Not how I had envisioned but still nice. Will be posting some photos as soon as I can get some decent pictures.

I just saw this (several years later) and like others I didnt see the problem. Whenever I soap with milk of any kind I always get a faster acceleration.
@tkine9711 жыл бұрын
I think your soap looks great! I understand you had one thing in mind, & the soap had another. You handled the accel. well! It looks like a good color combo for men. From the video title, I was waiting for an oil spill, with you sliding around in it on the floor, like a slip-n-slide :) Love the look your soaps & videos!
@lostcontrol19816 жыл бұрын
That actually looked pretty fluid to me! Wait til you literally have a big clump of hard soap on your immersion blender. That's when you get stressed out. This one turned out fine

to combat your gnats, take 1 of your little bowls add 2 ozs of cider vinegar and drop 3 or 4 drops of dawn dish washing liquid into it. Cover bowl tightly with cling wrap. Then poke some holes into cling wrap with a tooth pick. Sit your bowl out of the way, so it doesn't get knocked over. The cider will draw the gnats to it and the dawn will kill them. Works like a charm.

I need a xanax after watching this. LOL. Maybe you do too? I have only done a dozen soaps but I have to say this wasn't a fail at all. It is beautiful. I have had soaps seize. THAT is never pretty. I did enjoy you banging the hell out of your soap!

Hope so! Thanks!

LOL - 90% of my recipes accelerate at least that fast. Chill out - it's all good. I like a nice thick batter better than a thin runny one that I have to wait forever to trace. I bet it turned out great.

Aloha, I think this batch came out very well & will look awesome! I've had situations such as yours & you handled it very well. It's hot & muggy here too in Hilo, HI & working in the heat can make things seem so much worse. I keep a nice cool drink near by with several fans pointed in my direction. Good luck & Aloha nui!

I would not call this a fiasco it's just soaping. Happens all the time. Maybe with smaller batches you would not feel so upset when one doesn't go your way.

I ended up in stitches just to relieve the stress. Poor you. I'm sure on other days it runs smoothly. I hope so any ways. I hope it ended up a good batch of soap and nat free.

To be honest, what you did looked quite ok. The trace, the pour - everything worked. When you use additives you are going to see a difference in trace speed and I am not sure if you kept an eye on the temperature. A few degrees warmer can accelerate things. However that aside you did quite good. Whilst the box might look uneven, once you slice it up, no one will be the wiser. Rather than stress out, have a laugh. Put some music on and chill out. Just like cooking, its more fun when you are relaxed even if things go totally pear shaped and you end up with pounds of expensive trash. Cold process is pretty easy. Wait until you try hot process and liquid soaps. Seriously I would re-label the video to be a little less "problem" because it looks fine to everyone else where :-) Chillax girl :-)

yes, glitter fixes everything lol. your swirls were fine. you may have actually over-swirled at 1 point but it came out fine. I do agree with alot of ppl on here that you are a little over dramatic about the severity of it though

I've seen some very bad acceleration - so bad you can't even get It out of the pot. This wasn't too bad. It at least was fluid enough to pour into the mold. It looks great in the end.
@beckyluvstoscrapnsew6 жыл бұрын
you did use a lot of TD..half as much and a super quick stick blend would have done better........I was waiting for some horrible thing to happen when it was just a bit fast...no where near soap on a stick...I've had much worse happen and still got a good soap at the end of the day...calm down and enjoy what you do :)

"Intended to make a traditional Brown Windsor...for the 1st time"... [You either plan for failure, or you fail to plan...] If this mysterious process does this to your spirit (when you should be enjoying it) I'd maybe either stick to smaller batches, or find another outlet source for enjoyment. Agreed..the only thing 'wrong' was your attitude going in/during the whole batch.

Extreme? The soap is fine .. the one that should relax is you .. I was very nervous to see her work like this .. If you have had a bad day, it is not the time to make soaps .. Making soap should distend, do not go crazy
