The Rab is a very warm bag, it should keep you snug. I have mine rolled out flat on top of the bed in my spare room, rather than in a storage sack. It helps with the loft. Enjoy.

Hi Great Channel, I have had my 900 for 11 years and still looks as new as the first day I purchased it. Two tours of afgan in winter too, it served me well,.yes it gets cold lol. Great choice of Bag, I would say if u ever wash it,.to put it In the dryer with tennis balls, this helps the Down to fluff back up. 😀 just a tip from the guys at the rab factory.

I am looking to get into wild camping myself so any tips or advice you can give me (gear/tips) mould be lovely. I came for the Wild and stayed for the Beare! Good to see you making another video. I think the bag will serve you very well. Hopefully you get to give it a good try soon. The lovely thing about down is how small it squeezes...uh...well...down. Hmmm... Funny old language sometimes, isn't it. If I could offer one small tip, it would be to see if you can source a surplus Carinthia compression bag. It has more straps to squeeze the contents both end to end, and around the girth. It should compress the bag down a good bit more for you.

Hi Clair, I have the Rab. Bought years ago for my trek to Everest Base Camp but now my ‘go to’ bag for the UK winter. Worked well under EBC very cold conditions even though it was (and is) quite bulky to carry. I recommend it even though you have to adjust the zip quite often to manage the temperature and ventilation. I also have a range of other bags depending on season, weather forecast, distance to carry, etc. but the RAB is joint no1 along with my military high spec Corinthia Defender 4 (look at the excellent reviews). Keep up the good work…

I've been considering a down bag for this year & your video has pushed me into it. I've ordered the Rab 900 from Go Outdoors for £181.40 (I had a 10% discount code thing, but had to add £5 for a "discount card"). Thanks for the review & heads up regarding cancellation of orders. Maybe mine will arrive? I had a bad experience with a down bag 6 or 7 years ago. It got pretty wet & then got very smelly. I washed it according to the instructions & dried it. It still stunk & was never quite the same afterwards. It was only 6 months old & Blacks gave me a full refund (reluctantly).

Pertex means it is breathable like Goretex, so moisture from the body won't make the bag lose its properties. This is important! It is a much more expensive material hence the price! The Leviathan does seem to be a great bag for the money tho. :)

There's obviously a direct trade-off between insulation and package volume, since the whole point is to keep as much air trapped between the inside and outside of a sleeping bag. The Rab looks as though it needs a deflation pump of some sort. The quick-stuffing portion was a hoot.

Hi Claire. Your smiling face is just what I needed to cheer me up again this cold, drab winter. Love the speeded up bag stuffing! Pertex is a very fine weave synthetic fabric designed in 1979 by Hamish Hamilton (Scottish mountaineer, he also designed Vango force 10 tents). He used it for his range of Buffalo outdoor gear used by many mountain rescue teams - worth a look. Pertex is highly breathable and wind resistant, dispersing water rapidly by capillary action. Not fully waterproof like Goretex but it fends off a lot of bad weather. My pertex gear from the 80s is still wearing well. Stay safe and keep smiling

Still torn between down and synthetic. Where I camp in England it rains 50% of the time so for this reason I went synthetic. The bag I chose they actually recommned you machine wash it to maintain loft which is a deffo plus for me. I do keep it laying around uncompressed though and it takes up a lot of space in my room :( 2.2ish kilos. Forces me to pack basics only as it packs large.

Bit late to it but if you're set on synthetic then check out the Snugpak Tactical 2 - durable quality, rated comfort 0°C and low -5°C, synthetic, packs down tiny to 7x7", weighs 1100g and costs only £108 currently at OutdoorGB. I don't know a single bag that beats those combined qualities, so still very confused by how it only has 2 KZfaq reviews.

To protect my sleeping bag, after it is in its compression sack, I place that into a heavy duty trash bag. A standard bag is too thin. A barrel bag, cut down some? A leaf bag? Along with the sleeping bag, here is where I add my knit cap for sleeping, headlight, and spare batteries. Squeeze the air out of the heavy duty trash bag, and fully twist the top down tight. Bend it over into a goose neck, and slide it all into a SECOND nylon stuff bag just a little bit bigger than the first stuff sack. Now the bag is (1) compressed, (2) packed into a waterproof bag, and (3) the waterproof bag is protected by the second stuff sack. A little extra care of a valuable survival tool. I do have the OEX 900 Leviathan very warm down to -13 with lightish clothing on, however the issue I have is the very poor zip that always seems to catch when trying to exit. This really spoils a great warm bag and I am looking at another type due to the zip ☹☹☹☹☹☹☹

I had a synthetic summer OEX bag (EV300) which has plenty of room so didn’t think twice about ordering the EV900… but it’s a lot smaller. I can barely move my arms and although the overall external length is about the same the front doesn’t come up as far. I’m only 6ft and to get my shoulders under the baffles my toes are pushing hard against the bottom… So… is the Rab noticeably bigger inside? The specs say it’s actually shorter but I’d the face ‘hole’ is higher the useable length might be longer… I can’t move my arms at all in the OEX. The width measurement is a lie, I’ve checked mine and it’s 72cm external IF it’s flattened.

If the Rab had a proper compression sack you could probably get it down there.

the difference in real is that the rab is over £100 more in price and the fill is only 12 mm more as for length the OEX is longer

I've got a leviathan, hate it, it's about as warm as a flannel and really cramped. I'm after a rab 1100

Not really relevant for a bag (why does a bag need wind resistance🤔) but my ~20yo Pertex Montane Featherlite Smock is the most impressive ...and lightest ...and cheapest ...bit of kit I own. Simply stopping the wind has a huge effect, keeping me warm.
