No kiddin, took me doin without for 4 yrs while i paid off shed, 4yrs@ $350 while on disability, finally get yo start building out inside, ur lucky to have that to start with although u dont seem to thrilled about it

I honestly wouldn’t mind having it that simple if it brought the cost of living and land prices down! But I guess your rules on living space must be different to australia as the regulations are so rediculous on minimum requirements you need a lot before it’s legally habitable, I would without knowing any fact assume we are similar but worse than California with excess regulations governing everything we can do here down to the clothes we are allowed to wear

I am pretty sure you will make this old hunting cabin into what ever you desire. Please don't knock the builders of this cabin as they got the use out of it for what they used it for. You go hunting with a few friends, you need a place to be warm, a place to eat and drink and maybe even sleep. Love the Sliding doors and hope you keep that concept. They are brilliant space savers. We’ve been wondering a lot lately what the point of the place really was. there’s some things here that don’t 100% align with a simple hunting cabin… i hope that one day we’ll figure out a bit more of the story. I’m sure whoever built this didn’t have a clue there’d be a little family living it in! 🤣

Means the world to me that we can do this. The tractor my dad gave us was the one from my childhood…it was old then too 🤣… growing up in the country was the greatest blessing. I’m so excited to give Wade that same kind of life.

We live in Tryon, NC and it's sad that people used to come to WNC looking for cheap property, isolation and freedom. Now you have to leave NC to find that. Good luck, it looks like you have a plan and are not afraid of hard work.

I’m originally from central Texas and remember seeing the waves of coastal people moving to our towns during the recession, I was a kid and watched the whole culture change. It was hard moving to Nc and seeing the same thing happen to that state as an adult.

Beautiful setting for the cabin. Seeing the crawlspace, I feel I should mention that I saw recently on a video about bears in Mammoth Lake, that they have been known to hibernate in crawlspaces. I had no idea.

You can reuse all those trees you fell to outline a garden bed or start a hugelkulture bed /raised bed with them if you're looking for ways to recycle them. That's usually what I do with trees that fall on the property.

For now we’ve rolled them onto the hillside, it’s been so wet out we can hardly get up the driveway. Might have to switch gears and start working on spreading rock from the creek to improve things. I can’t even drive my escape up there 😅

Take the top cutoffs of trees felled, delimb them and use them to put your building logs on top of. Will prevent them from freezing to the ground and keep them drier. Also think about getting some straps, good size rope and pully to get logs to the site. Easier than muscling them

Lots of firewood even if it's not the greatest wood. Small and will fit nicely into that small wood stove.

New to your channel and just wanted to say that when dealing with all that rat feces up there I would have definitely had some type of gloves on even though your not putting your hands directly in it. Also until you get control of the rats and even after until the cabins more secure I would keep all food, dishes, and anything the rats can come in contact with in plastic containers with lids or even better keep the food in 5 gallon buckets with lids that are a little more thicker and harder to chew through and maybe the dishes in the plastic containers. I definitely would set me at least 3 or 4 traps to catch those things! I think I would go around and reseal all around the windows because it looks like they’ve been leaking. Good luck with everything.

We got rid of the rodents pretty quickly, I was pleasantly surprised! I think the cabin had been abandoned for quite a while leaving them without anything to eat on. We’ve spent considerable effort by on sealing the place up and are happy to report, NO NEW DROPPINGS! 🙌🙌

Alright you found rock..So you might as well put them closer to the cabin. At about 6 ft high. You have to put a pump in anyway.

We’re hoping to build a much taller tower (probably stacking IBC totes) but need to sort out a lift solution to get them up there. Kinda hard to add the extra height over 6’ when you don’t have giants around 🤣 We’re planning out next trip back there and I really think it’s gonna be a huge game changer for us. I think we’re going to replace some doors with windows, add a room on the back of the cabin since there’s already footers there, and build a small outbuilding for wood storage and all the tools. I get so tired of dancing around the dang tools

You'll have to seal under those sliding doors! Mice can squeeze through a half inch hole! Rats and squirrels will chew their way in unless its metal tight!

Hi guys just found your channel or it found me. I to have an off grid place here in Australia 🇦🇺 working progress. its able to be lived in full time i will get there someday. Was just wondering did u try pushing the small trees with tractor. I do this with a small 30hp kubota. Place bucket 3 or 4feet up trunk an most of the time i get root ball and all come down. Saves heaps of time and chains on chainsaw. Good luck with your journey 👍🍻🇦🇺

We haven’t been able to push trees with the tractor yet, we had to change out the wheels are tires first. It came from my parents place in central Texas where the ground is much more forgiving. Hoping to get that done in the next week or so!! I hope you get comfortable in your place, it’s an incredible relief when it all comes together ❤️

Feed the rats a mixture of Borax and honey....Keep it away from the kids lil` hands though....up high on a cabinet ie...a safe place...do not touch.

We’re holding on to it and will be going back and forth for a while. This property isn’t cleared at all, so we’ve got a couple of years of work ahead of us before we can live here full time. It’ll be nice to have all the work space in the barndo when we go home. I think first on the list when we get back there is getting my Jeep up and running. This road is killing my little escape

we managed to get 65 acres with the cabin, but have the first right of refusal on another 60 next door when the owner does decide to sell. where overseas are you looking?

@@abnaga1270 yes! It was basically a shed with spray foam, no water, no means of electricity… we’re working on getting it habitable for the long term so we can build an off grid barndominium out there. Long term dream! ❤️

Was wondering the same thing. Why would it be so expensive. You have a tractor already. Just need to clear out some trees and dig out roots and then grade a drive up to the cabin. Where y’all drove up there isn’t that far from the cabin. Just seems like it would make things so much easier. I know it would take a good while to do. Maybe your neighbor wouldn’t mind helping. His machine can do a lot of work if he wouldn’t mind helping. Good luck with it all.
