I need to resniff Mandragora Pourpre again. Have always been intrigued by the name. Would love to sniff Costume National and more of the CDG line, but I think they got sidelined by the other brands by retailers here.

I was impressed by Mandragore when I was looking for a good Anise. CN and CDG are really some of the good mainstream designers left. Sadly they don't get much talk nowadays

I still have a difficult time getting excited wearing my summer scents, regardless of the style. But, I'm always happy when Fall and Winter rolls around and I get to wear my heavier fragrances. That being said, I'm wearing Goutal's Eau de Monsieur, Serge L'Eau Froide, Cartier Santos, Chanel Paris Edimbourg, No. 19 and Cristalle Nice list, I need to try that Cardinal.

Lalique Pour Homme (Lion) is the other 90s oriental barbershop that smells several times its price I might actually slightly prefer it to New York Intense by Nicolai, which is crazy considering the price difference.

Lion is superb. Also enjoy White and the popular Encre Noire series. Many Lalique fragrances are of fantastic value

I want to revisit this. I found it too abstract and feels like a water colour wash....but my bottle back then was from a discounter so maybe the juice was affected.

No, I think they are still good for the most part. Many people associate reformulation/change in smell with decrease in quality. Just because it is different does not mean it's inferior. You can replace an expensive ingredient with another expensive one. Prices are high nonetheless so try to get them discounted.

It smells like the base of many vanilla fragrances, that is 5 hours into the wearing. Some I mentioned in Video but very familiar smell

What a detailed review. Thank you so much. I am so curious how it smells! I could imagine from your description like a mixture between In Love Again and a Jardin-perfume by Ellena. They all have a greenyness really like when you are in a forest. Not necessarily nice or very perfumlike. The same with In Love Again, which I adore. In the first moment you are inclined to move your nose away from it. Then you discover a world of scents. Like being in nature, not everything is nice, but deep and complexe, a galaxy. But unfortunately they dont have Orange blossom at the end. So this is what makes me curious . What a pity that they dont s(m)ell it anymore. Or do you think, they have it at the Hermes store in Paris?. I will be there end of July.

Thanks Colette! Yes, it is not far from what Ellena did for fresh, fruity smells in the Jardin and Hermessence collections. Only it is a bit more challenging here bringing in the facets of nature that are usually not considered palatable in mainstream perfume. From what I heard it was given out to 500 guests in 2006 and never sold commercially. So it's been a long time. I have not seen it anywhere, so not sure.

The way you described the scent does remind me of a certain Parfum D'Empire scent. Time to dig out my samples....as it's the closest I will ever get to this release I guess.

yea, it seems like they are throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Atleast this is not trendy like a tobacco, tonka or vanilla. Still the far drydown is disappointing. Thank you!

Maybe something floral like with Roses or Orange blossom to balance the Aldehydes and Fabric softner accords. But to be frank, this is big enough thaf I wouldn't layer it with anything
