My apologies for my late reply but for some reason KZfaq didn't send me a notification. It is true that there was no Jugger on macro and at this time. And though we don't know if those units exist at the time, and our active on other continents or not, it's fun to think that one of these was recovered from a lab or something. I do agree with you lore wise though no treason here.

I never liked Luck COs, relying on rng to win sounds terrible in a strategy-based game. If it were up to me I would've made Flak more of a berserker where if he does enough damage, he heals a bit or something like that. Jugger I would've made him like Sasha however instead of removing power stars, he would remove their current funds from the opponent by a 1/4 and by 1/2 with Super Co. I'd leave Nell the same cause she's known for it. Poor Sonja tries to use tactical thinking but is screwed over by luck? That's just dumb, plus she's already not worth using being a FoW CO most of the time, I'd give her an extra boost to defense bonuses depending on terrain stars making her the foil to Lash.

I don't mind RNG in low doses over a campaign, but not a fan in competitive play for sure. Berserker Flak would have been a great concept, and fit his aesthetic too. I started to think of Sonja as having a Soft debuff rather than a static one. A trade of a small, rather than large fire power loss for a bit of inconsistency. Still not great for competitive play that already has a luck roll (which I do find exciting at times but who's damage values may still be too large in and of itself).

In Dual strike she removes a terrain star on her enemies along side with her FW day to day. Her super also removed all terrain stard along side with counter breaks ability. So yeah her DS version is her strongest, its also her version where she's affected by negative luvk the least with -5, compared to her AW1 -15, and her AW2 -10 She's a huge foil to lash in AWDS as she just says bye bye to her terrain stars.

I think your comparison of Flak and Jugger about who's worse is pretty incomplete. Flak's expected bonus on any given attack is 2.5%, Jugger's is 7.5%, With Co Power, Flak is 10%, Jugger's is 15%, with Super CO, Flak's is 25%, and Jugger's is also 25%. The reason Jugger is worse really just comes down to the fact that bad luck is more crippling than good luck is beneficial. Failing to break a wall on your turn because of a bad luck roll is far more devastating than killing a unit you might otherwise not with good luck is rewarding. Moreover, whenever Jugger underperforms (rolls bad) you will feel every single percentage of damage that you failed to do, meanwhile, when he overperforms, the extra damage beyond what was necessary to kill the other unit is simply wasted. so whatever his expected bonus in damage is, is rarely what you're actually going to have seen when the fighting's done.

I agree that this is a superficial glance at the relative luck differences between two CO's. This is by no means intended to be an in depth analysis of the math behind Jugger and Flak, that video is way off in the distance with 2500 current data points and about 7500 more to go. This is more for entertainment and applicable to the campaign mode of AW2, where Jugger is not available without modding, and not relevant or applicable for competitive play. That is where we agree that not wall breaking can be devastating. Big luck swings can render hours of strategic move planning irrelevant. While swings can be exciting, we mostly watch for the skill. As for the damage outcomes. Most people won't know what to expect, because a percent range is not a set of data points. I am actually surprised as just how often Flak and Jugger act as if they have a floating damage bonus, after measuring 2500 attack interactions so far. I do really appreciate you taking the time to write a well thought out and expressed comment.

Would agree with Jugger being the worst, but he's still fun, did a run of the War Room with him only and that had some interesting results. I need to finish my Flak-only run challenge, only got the OS campaign up right now, but maybe I'll try this after its finished and see how we do.

I completely agree with you. I'm a big fan of spicing up gameplay with some big exciting RNG swings in either direction. I totally understand why people dislike this mechanic in highly competitive play, but it absolutely has a place in my heart. Cool to hear about your run. Are you putting it on KZfaq?

I will agree that flak is slightly better than jugger if you take Flak's AWDS stats. Flak's luck range has been buffed to +25/-10, +50/-20 with power and +90/-40 with super in dual strike. so if you take the average outcome of the attacks both their dual strike versions are absolutely identical. juggers super however costs 1 extra star so I'm just gonna say that jugger is worse because of that. if you compare AW2 Flak versus AWDS Jugger then Jugger does on average 5% more damage than Flak (except their super powers have identical averages again) so I'd give the cake to jugger here

So far I have tested 2500 attacks of an AA vs an APC on roads, and am working on plains next, to see an actual sample of damage delt by Jugger, AW2 Flak and AWDS Flak. So far D2D Jugger is looking like the best for damage, and consistently doing 5+, but jugger is looking the worst when using either power.

Lore wise his units not getting proper cover because they are so attack focused makes a good deal of sense. I wonder if the terrain star loss would be too lenient on Grimm, because most of the terrain being fought on is plains. In terms of the formula however, You may be able to have the engine simply evaluate a -2 value against the star bonus regardless of the actual terrain bonus itself. I'll have to see what this would do, by testing The formula in a spreadsheet. I appreciate you commenting and giving me something to think about.

@@GlitchHuntingGamer One more idea, when using Haymaker you can decrease defense -20% (instead of +10 defense) on top of -2 stars, but give him +2 speed (fast+sloppy reckless all-out frontal assault). Counter-attack will demolish Grimm, so he will use Haymaker only when he is going for a guaranteed victory march. Planes & Ships would suffer -40% defense while using Haymaker. This should be lore-wise too )

I appreciate you saying that. I have been playing AW since it debuted on GBA in Canada, but AWBW is another creature entirely. I wish I had the time to dedicate to league play. I have been following the Global League, and many AWBW commentators, for almost 3 years, and had just watched 3 very high level matches on this map to prep for my first live commentary, so how the map plays out was very fresh in mind. Way to much vocalizations and stuttering on my part, but I really wanted to be surprised and not preview the match.

Great coverage. I do have a nominal complaint about the Capture theory segment. That it was shown on a different map. Things can very significantly map to map and the loss for Grimm very much felt like a map loss. To be so down on income before any fighting even happened is just not going to work.

Heya @jeffbtaun5004, I absolutely have to get back to the Jugger run soon. Can't wait to see if 3 juggers can best Sturm, or if Rivals Rivals is even possible. RN I have a soft lock I discovered in SML2 coming out this afternoon, some AWBW tournament Format suggestions (Conquest, Last CO Standing, Field Trip) next week and then a break for Finals in May. I will most likely pick it back up after that. In the meantime, if YT hasn't put it in your feed yet, @lunarnights did a great run with Flak, and inspired me to do this one (I think I credited him in the vid properly?) Funny enough many don't even know just how different Sturm, being a combo of Multiple versions, and Flak being the buffed Dual Strike (corrected as I originally said DoR by mistake. thanks @crawfy48) version are. No changes coming any time soon, but voting on community submitted Nation 2/4 soon. Maybe with enough chance they will be open to make changes or as alternative CO's to shakeup the meta.

Agreed with the feedback about the music (especially during KMF's turns). I also felt like the "capture theory" segment was unnecessary. A pet peeve of mine is when KZfaq videos take way too long to get to the point of the video, and in this case it was well more than 10 minutes before you started the match proper. I'll also say that your commentary had many instances of stuttering and trailing off mid-sentence, which wouldn't actually be as noticable if your opening wasn't so clearly pre-scripted. I still gave the video a like for the algorithm, but I have to say I prefer the K.I.S.S. approach of Humita or Deej where they spend a few minutes at most going over the COs and map before jumping into the match.

Gray and thorough feedback! Definitely going to work on the audio levels. My apologies for your eardrums. To me, the point of the video was supposed to be a little more educational so that it would have components for both new players and seasoned players. But looking at the analytics and talking in the Discord, it's clear that the appeal of those two different things is really for two different audiences, So I won't be doing similar in future videos about opening turns. I totally see what you're saying there. Oddly enough the opening wasn't prescripted. I just spent way more time editing out all of my natural pauses. Hopefully I'll find a better balance between natural and edited in the future. Again, I do appreciate you taking the time to comment so that I can improve my craft. And I greatly appreciate you feeding the algorithm.

Sensei viable in tier 3 or 4? Probably not. His vehicles won't be able to stand up to Jess's +10%, and he has not movement boost on his power like Adder. Sadly, the old man is just outclassed.

Ghosted cities may just be too harsh on Sensi (especially since he can't even get the income from spawned units being blocked) and Hachi, though Hachi's discount may make him slightly viable on maps with more production facilities.. the beginning sections were obviously edited well, but it's way too much of a time sink to put that much effort into it this early in your channel. It's like baking a 6 layer red velvet cake with decorative frosting and complicated fondant and asking "Do you like it?" It's so much more important to get MORE videos out, rather than better quality videos. Make a chocolate single tier plain cake and refine and build off of that.

Not only do you make a good case, but you make me hungry with a good cake... Metaphor. I'm actually using this video as a bit of an experiment. The editing that was done was done in such a way that it can essentially be templated out and the next video of similar content can be done in the same way very quickly compared to the first. I want to see if the "editing for retention" holds up if the edits themselves are very similar, and also compare them to less spectacularized videos. Your point is well taken that it is very important to consistently feed the algorithm beast. Seeing the ie logo takes me back. 😁

Please take all of this with a grain of salt. You're very talented and have great editing chops. It also depends on your goals. I am glad you had a fair acoustical experience. A friend of mine who edits for a channel similar to watch mojo warning me against music any higher than -25 DB, and was telling me most channels of that nature use -35 to -40 just to avoid annoying anyone, although I find that music so quiet in those that I have to crank the volume just to know it's there.

The vibes, the music, the gameplay, it was all just dripping with love for Horror... Hard as heck, but well worth the effort to play through.

I'm not convinced by your CO comparison of Flak and Jugger. With Jugger's +30/-15 range, you'd expect him to hit about +7.5 on average, but Flak only hits for +2.5 on average (compare to normal COs which hit for +4.5 on average). In COP Jugger hits for +15 on average, Flak hits for +10 on average. In SCOP Jugger hits for +25 on average, and Flak hits for (if you believe the wiki that he has -40 Bad Luck) +20 on average, or (if you use the stats he had in RBC, where he has -30 Bad Luck) +25 average. So at every state of the game, Flak is either hitting worse than Jugger, or (depending on which source is accurate) equal to Jugger. The one theoretical advantage Flak might have over Jugger is the fact that Jugger's SCOP is 1* more expensive than Flak's, but it's a pretty marginal benefit when Flak is so much worse the rest of the time. So I'm not sure how you can look at these numbers and conclude Jugger is strictly worse than Flak.

I appreciate your analysis. Thank you for the time and care you have taken. When I finish school I am going to try to get some AW fans to conduct an experiment to compare the two, and try to gather at least 1000 samples using a map where an AA is targeting an APC w/o terrain boost or CO power. Having data of this sort, which I have not seen, will be more accurate than averages. There is a good chance I am wrong, but who knows. If you are interested I'll reach out at such a time.

Negative and positive luck are both further modified by defense bonus', the closer a unit is to full health, and by your own unit's health. Having a lower possible range means that jugger consistently underperforms, even when compared to flak, on long-running tournament websites like Advanced Wars by Web.

I was aware of the terrain modifier and the damage formula, but it is good that you laid that out here for future readers. One overlooked issue is pseudorandom number generation. I suspect an emulator will be different on different hardware, from original hardware and from servers running psudocode. So far I have 500 attacks from flack and 500 from jugger on 0 star terrain and jugger is oddly performing very well...more than I would have expected. I suspect terrain modifiers may change the distribution, but perhaps this may be even more true of units that teal more or less than the 50% I am testing. AWDS flack at a glance appears to be a straight upgrade too. I'll have to add that to the test pool. AWBW is awesome.
