YOU FORGOT ABOUT EVERYTHING BAGEL

I think there is a conscious Rose/Pink Diamond within Steven's gem, given that the gem remembers those forms (Change Your Mind). She's just not in control anymore because the latest version of the Pink Diamond Gem is Steven. We know from A Single Pale Rose that these past versions can still be active within the gem itself and can interact with anything that's within the gem, including things from the outside world that have made their way inside. Pink has likely reached out at least twice to Steven with her memories, On the Jungle Moon and on the moon base. The first time was providing a means to communicate with Lars, the second was to motivate him to ask pearl about her fake shattering. A possible third instance was in the tower on Homeworld to show Steven that the diamonds were exactly the same, though that could also be White's interference. I think it's possible that she did speak to him while in the room, but we don't know for sure.

Oh fuck I'm being reminded of my own parents and their failures with me. Totally failed me in all sorts of ways by doing the opposite of what their respective parents did, but they also did fucking excellent in other places by doing the exact same thing. God this hits hard. I will say, I do believe Greg is grateful for Steven yelling at him, but that's mostly because the same thing happened to me when I snapped at my dad. He genuinely was proud; I'm inclined to think Greg would be the same.

i don't get why some people apparently don't like steven's character progression in SUF. to me, expecting anything else than his immense trauma coming back to bite him in the ass is just unrealistic, given the whole theme of the main show, and a bit childish. like, yeah, i guess it would be a more "enjoyable" story if SUF was still following the cartoon formulas of adventures and shenanigans, bit that was never what SU was about! let my boy steven work through his extremely complex trauma damn it!

And know with this new perspective that you gave to this episode maybe if the Demayo's made contact with Greg Steven could have more stable parental figures in his life...

i still think they should have called episode 10 "detention", Detention is a more accurate title.

Tbh I really liked their dynamic

Personally, and I think feelings on the final episode are super subjective at its core anyway, I think it was really important that the diamonds and spinel were there. I'm a huge advocate for not forgiving family members, or anyone that hurt you in the past, you don't have to acknowledge them you don't have to have them in your life but the diamonds and the gems as a whole are aliens, they don't understand human Concepts and they're trying to learn after thousands and thousands of years of being set in their own ways, I'm not saying that Steven is wrong for how he feels but I do think it was important that they were there.

If you look into Beast Boy’s future in “How Long Is Forever” even further, then it would make sense on why the following episode decided to focus on him alongside with the premise they chose for that episode.

19:28 My nitpick is Bluebird's character design. The skin colour is great. I like the gems that have a multicoloured base. I also like the gem. But... The head is easily the worst part. Jeez. I get that Ruby has brown hair. But... god, _why_ a bowl cut? I tried to replace it, and I got pigtails (Aquamarine has two lil pointy things, and Ruby's hair falls down to the sides a lil'). The buck teeth...? Why...??? Also, the outfit. It's very... uninspired. I do like the pants, though. It's so dull, and the colours are so bland. Now, the one thing I love? The Cutlass! It's AMAZING!! As a Cutlass enjoyer, I love how they combine the two weapons (The wand and the Chisel) into a badass sword. The wings? Sure, they can stay. My biggest dissapointment is that Bluebird Azurite doesn't have a monocle. It would fit. So. Well. Why is there not a monocle?! Why, why, WHYYYYY?!?!

SU is a master of foreshadowing. When you watch the series for the first time, you keep getting information and hints that you don’t pick up on. But once you finish the series, and later rewatch it, you realize just how important every detail really was. Like, coming back to season 1 after future hits DIFFERENT

Really should have gotten more focus and so should Bismuth, i also would have liked 1 episode woth Steven hanging out with purified Centi it sucks SU got cancelled abd we got stuck with future, seriously the Crewniverse admitted including Rebecca that she begged and begged for more episodes and was given the movie, but in being given the movie they said:sure you can have a mini series single season thing wrap up what you can as we don't give TV movies to shows that cant be further promoted so Future was cobbled together fro. Notes and what little scripts they had and Rebecca reading some psychology books recently which helped her come up with the trauma arc. Also Steven wants a typical teenage life, there is no such thing everyone has trauma and anxiety and issues ive had my faor share and so has literally everyone i know, normal is subjective.

It's actually quite interesting when you think about how pink was the only one who actually found the "reverse" side of her powers on her own, while the rest of the diamonds didn't even think about it until after steven made them change. It also made me realize how we've seen the diamond powers from Pink in the inverted order, watching first the variation of the pink rhombuses as a shield, and the destructive powers as the ability to heal

SUF will always be one of my favorite shows of all time, and I’m glad to see that stuff like this has been swaying its reception closer to a more positive one. It was a lot better on a rewatch for me, and I feel like Steven’s character arc was just remarkable- especially for a kids show handling such serious topics. I loved OG Steven but SUF turned him into one of my favorite fictional characters, the way it recontextualizes the entire series into such an emotional arc is phenomenal. I didn’t realize how disingenuous some of those old video essays/critiques were but it’s nice to see someone who understands writing better talk about it, this is such a great video :) P.S. I’m SO glad you included the clip of Rose’s video tape, saying “you’re going to be a human being.” I recently started a rewatch of the original show and when I saw that line with the full context of SUF my jaw dropped

Nobody understands that these episodes were made to make us understand that everything Steven went through was to make him one of the Diamonds, and Steven's fight to not end up on that path.
