You guys are firing those at a rate much higher than terminal velocity. In order to do this properly, you'd have to climb to a higher location, greater than 25 feet, and then drop the hailstone so you could truly see the damage. When I was a kid, I walked home from school, unbalanced to me, while a tornado was occurring 2 miles away and hailstones a little bigger than golf balls began to fall. I got pelted all over my body and head and I survived. yeah, I had a couple of lumps and bumps , but the hailstones weren't falling at the velocity you guys are shooting those at. I live in Texas where we get hail all the time, and we get monster hail frequently. try redoing your experiment with accurate execution, it would be interesting to see the results. this was just a lot of fun, but it was not at all accurate.

FYI: “Hot Swapping” means a system with dual batteries, and you change them one at a time, keeping the system online so as not to have to do a restart. For instance in a drone connected to GPS that would have to reacquire satellites once it’s powered down, so to save time you Hot Swap. Like during search and rescue. Changing a battery is just changing a battery.
@Weisz
@Weisz 13 сағат бұрын
I tried to look this up for the script! Almost changed the wording, but then I read that a hot swap refers to any kind of swap that occurs while a device is powered on. So, I guess it’s not technically powered on, but the power switch is in the on position. I’ll fix it for next time. :)

I don't understand how in America you can go on the highway in these weird vehicles. In europe this would be highly illegal, you are not allowed to go on highway with not even a bike or moped, only with vehicles that can reach a minimum of 30 mph (50 kmh)

How'd you decide whats bikes you were gonna ride? Just companies that would sponsor this trip? Theres many variety of e bikes that are cheaper and go farther, also built well. So i was just wondering. Fun watch!
@Weisz
@Weisz 2 күн бұрын
I just did as much research as I could! I am only one man 😂 Also, my priority was to focus on having a lot of different vehicles, not just the best “bang for your buck” in every category. Ex: There are other small ebikes, but none that I saw that aren’t folding. the jackrabbit is the only one that actually looks cool, has a solid frame, and rides well. I don’t like folding ebikes. So I prioritized featuring things with cool designs, bringing new ideas to the space, etc. If you’re looking for a cheap bike or ebike, I’d start by looking for reputable brands on the used market!

Yeah so I was gonna literally call Rossman (he’s even based in austin) - but when I say it was unrecoverable, the NAND FLASH chip itself was snapped in half. Like, GONE gone. I genuinely felt like I just watched memories fall into a volcano. The way we recovered the drone footage btw was from 1080p iphone preview files that never touch the SD card - it’s just a recording of the feed going to the phone, so it had some stutters and artifacting we had to work around. But when I discovered (a week later) it wasn’t permanently gone it was like I took my first breath in days.

All bikes are limited to 20mph because that is the street limit in most areas and the national parks. Most bikes can be changed to 28mph but you sacrifice your battery life. Max range is usually not achieved if you're going at full speed. Plus, lithium batteries don't do well in cold weather and you lose some battery life. I've put over 1,000 miles in 2 years on my Lectric XP2.0 bike. I use two batteries (one standard, one extended range) for about 35 miles on a newspaper route.
@Weisz
@Weisz 4 күн бұрын
You’re absolutely right, and increasing the max speed does drain your battery life! I wanted to test the way that most consumers will experience these vehicles, regardless of technical knowledge. The following is not a roast, just an observation: I think the issue is that unlike the EV car industry, there’s no standardized range benchmark for PEV’s (and even that system isn’t perfect, I’ve heard tesla inflates numbers in some ways) The thing is, sometimes you get a company like async, who tries to quote your range the way you’ll actually ride the bike - so they say 50-88 miles “throttle only range” (depending on mode/speed). Other times, brands seem to want to have a bigger “range” number - but realistically nobody is doing 100+ miles PEDALING at 12mph on a moped seat. So, why even include that statistic? 50ish miles with throttle only is great! But when most of your consumers are buying from a spec sheet (because they’re buying online) more impressive claims often make the sale. As a consumer I’d rather buy a product and be pleasantly surprised that it goes a little further than I expected, than buy a product and discover it goes less far than I expected. If my plan was to pedal, I’d buy a different kind of ebike.
@SandrA-hr5zk
@SandrA-hr5zk 4 күн бұрын
@@Weisz Completely true. Even the motor specs are often inflated. There’s an initial burst when you start, but then maintains a lower power when cruising. Doing a newspaper route, I have to stop, slow down, make u-turns, and go over some obnoxious speed humps. Plus, I have the weight of the papers in the front and rear baskets. Before I got the second battery I would really have to limit my max speed to about 10-12mph to get enough range to make it back to my car. I’ve had to huff it back to my car and it really ruins the day to pedal a 50+lb bike. I absolutely love it, but there needs to be some realistic specs put on these info sheets.

The speed limit changing while you were pedaling is completely by design to follow the regulations in the US. They can't advertise how to break the law. Anyone in the US with an interest in eBikes should familiarize themselves with the 3 classes, and any state/local laws regarding their use, even if you plan to not follow them.

30:02 Dalhart, Texas??!!! If I ever find myself in Dalhart, Texas again, it will be far too soon!!! Taking a drive back to our hometown in mid-October one year, my ex-girlfriend, and I ended up being stranded for a few hours in Dalhart because of some premature snow blizzard that was dumping all over the Midwest. Finally, it had cleared slightly to the east of us, so instead of taking our normal route from here that would lead us generally north, we decided to travel further to the east before heading northward in an attempt to get around the storm, and hopefully out in front of it. It seemed to be working in our favor, at least for the majority of the drive, about 719 miles by way the crow flies, but I can not recall how much further distance was added to the drive from our little skirting maneuver, but it seemed to be worth the extra time, for we were free from the storm's wrath, and had smooth sailing ahead of us for several hundred miles . . . at least until we had arrived at a point that placed us approximately 169 miles from our destination, a drive that should not take longer than two and a half hours given no delays. Oh, but we had delays!!!! For this was where we realized the storm had gotten out in front of us, and we were now reaching its backside and seeing the destructive force it applied undiscriminatingly to all intrepid travelers! Everything was covered in snow, and all types of vehicles had slid off the highway, and into the ditches on both sides of both roads , for it was a four lane divided highway, and the majority of the remaining 169 miles of distance, I was unable to drive much faster than 25 mph, turning a relatively short, and quick 2.5 hours drive into a test of endurance lasting around 5 hours. I do not recall ever having a snowstorm, or merely a snowfall that early in the season previously. So, I took it as an omen, and decided that barring any vital reason for doing so, I would never return to my old stomping grounds again, or my old stamping grounds if you prefer that nomenclature instead, either way, I would not make any future plans to visit my home town ever again. As far as Dalhart, Texas goes, well, that actually goes without saying . . . and as far as my ex-girlfriend goes . . . well, she just goes, or I should say went!

My condolences for your loss. I know your pain, even if you can not afford to replace the drone, that doesn't matter, for there are always ways to get it replaced, but the recorded memories, and experiences will have to exist for you within your memories, and we tend to realize, and learn, just how unreliable our memories truly are. That footage can not be replaced, and I am already far too acquainted with such feelings of loss and despair. I am under the assumption that you have already moved past this loss, and it is now water under the bridge for you. However, in case it is not, or perhaps for somebody else in a similar situation, you need to shift your perspective, and realize just how bad it could have been, if you were to lose all of your footage, and in so doing, you can begin to be grateful for what remains. Of course, such loss completely blows chunks, but in blowing those chunks, there exists the positive around of those chunks, and it is the act of blowing chunks which initiates a healing which allows the blower to feel much better, and hopefully it shall produce the appropriate feelings which shall set one's soul free to experience true joy. Without pain, does pleasure still exists? Obviously, anything can be dichotomized, but nothing truly is . . . yet it still has the capacity to form a basis upon which one can construct a perspective that intensifies one's pleasure . . . not that I am a true believer, but I have heard tongues speak of the gateway to heaven leads the traveler through hell. Thanks for sharing this video!
