I've recently gotten back into golf after not play for over decade. So naturally I started looking a clubs and one of the first thing I see is all the “game improvement” and “forgiveness” marketing and I just start laughing. One the reasons I stopped playing is out of no where I started slicing the ball chronically. And my first thought wasn’t oh I need a more forgiving club. It was something is wrong with my grip, swing, or both. I don't have time to work on it so I’ll revisit this at a future date. I understand the appeal of buying equipment to “fix” your game. But the reality is you would better off putting that money towards lessons. Not saying game improvement irons don't have their place. If you are a good ball striker but are legitimately having distance issues by all means go for it. But if you are just starting out I would look at something like the Mizuno 245s, Taylormade P770s, or Wilson Dynapower Forged. Something that has the profile of blade but has a slightly stronger loft and few other tricks to help you get a little bit more “forgiving” compared to a traditional blade. But sacrifice all spin and control to achieve it. In closing an iron isn't a wood. Distance isn't the main goal especially when it comes to scoring irons.

Wonderful review and still very relevant with the price of both drivers lower by $150 to $200 with their new respective models coming out. You covered all the bases very well. With your upward angle of attack, I can see the benefits of lower loft. However, most of the guys I play with do not have a 5-6 degree upward angle of attack and benefit by more loft…..myself included. Keep up the great videos and thanks for your review!

The bottom line with these swing tests is that every grip got you on or near the green. There’s not a grip in existence that would do that for my game. Lol.

Great video. I'd love to see a comparison between choking down on the driver shaft vs the 3 wood shaft. Because if the difference is negligible then it saves you having to buy a new shaft by just choking down. Plus you'll always have the option of going full length for when a huge bomber attempt is really required.

I’ve played golf since I was a kid but never really got into it. Now at 35 fully addicted for a little over a year. Been playing some ping GI irons. They are gigantic but now that I’m really trying to work on my swing - over the winter and this season - I’m realizing I have no idea when I’m striking the ball well because I can’t feel anything. Going to go out and buy some old blades to play with for a while.

Comparing the cost of driver heads was not part of your test. I just bought the Krank Pro in 9d head only for $500AUD. Comparable 2024 driver heads from the big 3 Tit.Cal.Tay. etc and you can double that for us. The Krank is tough tough tough and doesn't break. And it's very good value for money.

The MyGolfSpy Ball Lab test of these of June 1, 2022 gave the Sugar G1 ball a very low rating of 57 for "terrible" compression consistency and "problematic" layer consistency. Sugar came out with the Sugar Pure improved model that member testers tried in October 2023 with mixed results. Performance tests such as this exhaustive one you carried out (and thanks so much for that hard work) may show good results, but that may involve only one or two balls whereas MyGolfSpy does destructive technical analysis of at least three dozen of each ball in its labs.

If you took off the half inch from the tip vs the butt, how does that affect the CPM increase? If it goes up 4ish points from a butt trim, is a trip rim +7-9?

Why would he only get 1.44 smash when he middled the Callaway with perfect launch and spin conditions towards the end? I thought middle strikes get close to 1.50
@epgolfstudios
@epgolfstudios 4 күн бұрын
1.50 is Trackman, on GC Quad 1.45 is essentially the equivalent of 1.50 on Trackman. And that’s because they measure swing speed differently. But not everyone will get max efficiency even with a middle strike. There are lots of factors that will effect it

By coincidence last night I put a 3 wood Kaili white 70S into my Aerojet LS lofted it up to 12* to try & create a kind of “mini” driver & headed off to the practice ground. As you say it was noticeably lighter to swing which allowed me to attack more ? If that makes sense. My gamer driver is a Mizuno ST-Z with Kaili White 60S 45.25” & the Longest drive was with the mizuno BUT not by much and the Cobra was much tighter front to back and left to right. I have a dilemma now whether to take Frankenstein’s Driver onto the course 😂 Should I add a bit of weight into the head do you think ? I don’t have swing weight machine, is there a diy way of getting it close ?

Excellent video. Very helpful as I have been thinking of putting a 3 wood shaft into my driver. Playing a mini driver, with which strike and dispersion has been better and wonder whether I would experience similar positive results with a shorter shaft in driver head. My biggest concern would be swing weight. I assume, maybe incorrectly, that simply swapping the changeable weight in the head would fix this.

I cut my current driver shaft down by I think half an inch. At first, it didn't feel much better and my driving didn't improve. I then watched a video from TxG and Ian Fraser said that if you reduce shaft length, you have to add a bit of headweight to maintain swing weight. I think it was something like 2g per half inch. When I added the headweight, my driving was vastly improved.

In my opinion if a bigger grip gives you the right grip pressure that’s the main concern. I’ve had standard grips for years and gripped to tight. I now lighten my grip each shot and it’s changed my game. I will be changing to midsize soon.

Had the cobra darkspeed ls and was fitted for it, got a redo because didn’t really work out. Got refit into a Ping G430 Max. Shafts ended up being the same. Got better dispersion, distance, and speed from the Ping and the Ping was at the end of my session after like 150 shots so I was a bit tired. Funny how different people are

Years ago, when my body was much better than it is today and I was much younger, I experimented with driver lengths from 48 down to 42. This was a fun bit of tinkering. I have always been a club fitter and learned in my teens from an old man I used to work for just to get experience and learn. It was never my full-time job but I did attend Matby's course and learned a great deal. I wanted to have custom clubs easily for myself and I made some side money to pay for my golf. Anyway, I found the 48" shaft difficult to manipulate. For me, dispersion was the least in the shorter ranges. Today, at 65, I play essentially a 3W mini-driver at 42", 14 degrees loft and it is a senior shaft playing at R -. A big drive for me is 220. My game is devolving into a dink old man game. My woods go all the way down to 11W. The rest is 7i-PW, and 52, 56, 60, 68 wedges. I have put a lot of people into a shorter driver length over the years and the majority it has helped them find the fairways more easily. These are all mid to high handicap folks. Great video. Shafts really are critical for anyone's game. Most people I encounter who need help have too stiff of a shaft. Flex and length are key.

Wow. 302 in the fairway with a heel strike. This guy has plenty of speed and ought to be playing off a mid single figure hdcp. And he seems to know a lot about what affects his swing. Wouldn't want to get into a bet with him. At 18 hdcp he's a sandbagger who will relieve you of your pounds and shillings. 🤣

Krank is the worst company I ever purchased golf equipment from. I spent over 1 k on two drivers and they both cracked during my long drive season. They admitted manufacturing issues and still would not replace them within 7 months of purchase. Horrible and dishonest of the highest degree. They still owe me 2 drivers . I should have never promoted them at all.

I like everything about the Trufeel except for the green side spin or lack thereof. I like a soft feeling ball. My swing speed with the driver is just under 90, sometimes I can get around to 92 but most of the time not. But I am a good short game player and can make it it check and stop pretty quickly on chips when I am using the right ball. I can tell a big difference in performance between different balls. The Pro V's and PXG balls work best for me in that regard. Encore Aeros are also up there with them. I refuse to pay what ProV's cost, though and they feel a bit too hard for my liking. But in every other aspect I really like the TruFeels. Especially the red ones because That's really the only color I can see from strike to landing any more.

You are an excellent ball striker. I think for most people the desire to shorten has to do with control for misfits rather than straight up distance. So maybe the test is really to get some mid handicappers and apply similar test plan.

I can say NO its not, I'm a 16 hc and I have both blades Mizuno MP58 and I own Calaway stealhead pros, and before I had the blades I never broke 90, since then I have shot 82 and 84, my blades feel so much better when I hit them and I know if I miss hit them unlike my CSHP if I miss hit them I dont feel it and I tend to chunk the Calaways, so I like blades and I first started golfing at age 12 with blades as my first hand-me-down mix set.
