So, you're starting to like the AD09 a bit more? I'm so indecisive about AD09 or A052, AR-1 or even CUP 2...I recently spoke to someone that was running A052 in their F8X with stock rims and told me they lasted only 50 laps (2 trackdays) and a bit of road driving that seemed way too much for me as my current of cheap semislicks has lasted me 6 trackdays!
@samellioСағат бұрын
Afraid not. They are good in the wet though. If you watch my review vid you’ll see a picture of the cracking on the front left. All 4 tyres are doing this now. Your reports of A052 wear are correct, but they are fast. It all depends what you want from the tyre. Lap time? Life? Wet grip? Cost? Personally, as a balance of all the above I think the star marked cup 2 from the M2 are great so long as you have enough camber. I get them used but nearly new. So much cheaper and last ages. And are fast 👌

What setup are you running and what kind of life do you get from the tyres driving like this? Great driving by the way.
@samellioКүн бұрын
Thank you 🙏 The car runs camber plates, 3deg front/2deg rear, B16 shocks, EBC RPX pads and a Litchfield map with stock engine/exhaust. Tyres would last for ages in these conditions but were already quite dead. I wanted to finish them off but they’re still ok.

Thanks. I love the way your cars seem to have good front end grip so you can back it in. Thinking about m4 for track also as last trackday at thrux I did 2 sets of rear in just the morning. Only really lighting them up in the chicane. This is a c63 so probably a good 3-400kg heavier. I was considering m140, then decided 981 boxster or m4.
@samellioКүн бұрын
Good effort 👏👏😂 M4 is such a good track car as you have all the right ingredients out the box. All you need is camber and pads, then you can lap until it runs out of fuel. Or tyres 😂 They won’t overheat, you don’t have to worry about oil surge and despite its weight it’s actually not expensive to track as it doesn’t need any mods. I’ve done probably 15k track miles in mine and it’s never gone wrong. They did such a good job with F8X. 140 also great but cooling and oil surge not as good. Not as much power either. There’s not much difference in cost to buy so F8X no brainer.

Great review mate! Think I'll try em on the GT4 (only as A052 not available) anyway based on a couple of people who tried them on that platform, one guy timed and found 1.5 sec at an Aussie circuit. Could be the lower power of the GT4 combined with wider 295 rears and a bit less weight keeps them in a happier zone compared to the torque of the M4.
@samellio8 күн бұрын
I think you should do that, you’re too quick on cup 2, the AD09 might slow you down a bit 🤞😂 If you do get them, check ATS for prices esp over bank holidays etc. Mine were £600 fitted for 275+295/30/19.

Yes please let us know. I’m sure they’ll be fine, if you can keep temps on the lower side and make sure pressures aren’t too high they should be ok. The car feels good on them, and great fun to do skids, but I couldn’t get them to go quickly other than the first use and even then they were still a couple of tenths off much smaller cup 2 at Brands 😢

Yeah. And that's the same with all car stuff 😂 The AD09's were quickish but only on the first heat cycle. On their third heat cycle they only managed the same time as the old AD08R. They feel good but when considering the competition and cost I think there are better track tyres.

I did a video review on them, it’s a couple of videos back on my channel. They’re ok but I wouldn’t pay full retail for them. If I were you I’d go for a set of star marked cup 2 in 245/265. I’ve used a few sets of these on my M4 and they’re almost as fast as AR-1 but last much longer, don’t drop off like AD09 (and are quicker), and work at higher temps. I don’t have any experience of CRS but I bet they’re brilliant, too expensive at the moment for me to try.

Looks fun at least! Very interesting about the AD09s - I'm all set for A052s on the GT4 but the fronts are on back order till autumn prob and I need them in 3 weeks. So was all set on AD09s as an alternative..... But if they're worse than Cup2s what's the point ha. Now thinking rear A052 and front AR1s as an intermediate option 🤔
@samellio22 күн бұрын
I think you'll be quicker on A052 but don't be surprised if you get through a set in a day! As above I'm only using A052 because they were less expensive, I wouldn't pay full retail for them. If you can get a full set of AR-1 maybe that's the answer, they won't last as long as cup 2 but probably will be a bit quicker. I'm sure you know they're noisy and ride hard.
@alexoehler122 күн бұрын
Great video again! Also can't wait to hear what's you opinion on the a052 vs Ar-1 or Cup2 and longetivity of those.
@samellio22 күн бұрын
Thanks! Thanks also for your hardrace recommendation, I was looking at SPL but will check these out. The car already has camber plates and Bilstein B16 passive dampers. Running about -3 fr and -2 rear but it needs much more. Think with the A052 over 4 deg front would be better, 3 deg rear maybe, only one way to find out. I'm sure you know but all those tyres will die quickly without enough camber. The cup 2 will last the longest by probably hundreds of track miles, then AR-1 (which for the type of tyre it is, actually lasts well), then A052 which I wouldn't use if paying full retail, they wear out too quickly!! If you use cup 2 make sure you get the star marked BMW tyres, I've used lots of different versions of cup 2 and found that only the star marked ones are quick on the M4. Mostly, I just use the cup 2 from F87 M2 as there's good, cheap, supply and they're very quick. It really doesn't matter they're slightly smaller as the car will still put in competitive laps on them.

I’ve run 265/35/19 fr, 275/35/19 rear in AR1 and also 275/35/19 square on stock wheels. It’s fine to run these sizes, you can check on the Nankang website for confirmation 👍

The52's are fast tyres but in UK are very expensive and wear out very quickly. When they're worn they pick up punctures so you don't want to use the last bit. Time wise, I never beat any PB's on them but the ones I used had been raced on and were nearly dead. I'll try a couple of sets of nearly new A052 now, so interested to see how they do 👍

I've been wanting to try the AD09 on my stock wheels aswell! Great to read that you like them. I was looking for 265/35R19 + 295/30 R19 on the stock wheels. Surprised to hear that. the 275 fit well in the front. Aren't they bulging ? Also I was thinking on goin rear no spacer and front 15 mm with this setup. Crazy that they don't rub with the 295 and 12 mm spacers.
@samellioАй бұрын
So far so good but I’ll reserve judgment until they’ve done some more track days, sometimes tyres work well the first time then heat cycle out despite having lots of tread, the older AD08R were a bit like this. 265/35/19 + 295/30/19 I wouldn’t use, the 30 at the rear will drop the rear height by 10mm at least and when using on track imagine it’ll understeer. With 275 and 295 I could’ve done with more front grip but will probably solve this with adjusting the dampers. No bulging. You can check Yokohama website to see what size rims they recommend. If you go 265/35/19 front I think you’ll rub with a spacer, I’ve tried that size in cup 2 with 12mm spacer and it would rub. If you run same sizes as me it’ll lower the car about 10 mm, so if you have clearance issues beware.
@alexoehler1Ай бұрын
@@samellio Very interesting. I've looked up the Yoko website and you're right minimum for 275/30R19 is 9" and minimum for 295/30R19 y 10" so oem wheels spec. I'm running right now 15mm spacer upfront with 255/35R19 and about -2,7 camber with KW and haven't had any rubbing issues upfront but 275/35R19 with 12mm spacer on the rear and on very hard compresion has light rub in the fender liners. That's why I was thinking puting the 12 mm spacer upfront with 265/35 and running 295/30 without any spacer in the rear. Also I think your setup will be better for the abs as both axels will be propotional to OEM specs. I need to make some calculations then. Do you have some pictures of how the tires fits to the wheel? I would love to run my 763m with the ad09 for track use.
@samellioАй бұрын
I wouldn’t worry about the abs, I’ve run lots of different setups, loads of square setups but also 265fr/305rear and never noticed any difference. On this track, the fastest it’s ever gone was on 275/35/19 square on stock wheels, no spacer front and 12mm rear. I’ve got pictures of the tyres on the wheels but no easy way to share them, they look fine, certainly not ballooned. If these tyres work well for a lot of heat cycles I may go for 265/35/19 front and 285/35/19 rear only because it gives the car more height so will clear my drive better. The 275/30/19 and 295/30/19 are perfect if you don’t mind the car a bit lower. Also, here in UK price of ad09 is £600 (700$)a set in these prices. If they were the same price as ar-1 I’d buy ar-1.
@alexoehler1Ай бұрын
@@samellio 265/35/19 & 285/35/19 was also an option that I thought about but I thought that 295 on the rear may the best option to maximize track grip. About AR-1 I would also order them but they just don't make many good 19" options and I've been told the grear difference of the ad09 vs normal semis are that they come with more thread depth and they last significantly more. I'll wait to hear from you about what you think about 275&295 and I will go for either that or the 265/35/19 & 285/35/19 combo.

Another good video Sam 👌 Good to hear your thoughts on the AD09r. I've recently swapped to them. Very civilised on the road. Was a touch disappointed with the outright grip in handling the torque at lower speeds/rpms but been really pleased with the turn in, tyre stiffness and predictable feel on faster turns. Good value and seem a good compromise. Also interesting to see your comments on pads. Had rp-x and thought the bite and consistencywas exceptional. Currently on ds3.12 all round and absolutely blown away by them. Might start saving for some B16s now after seeing your enthusiasm in your write up.......😅
@samellioАй бұрын
Thanks Duncan!! What pressures were you running the AD09? I went for 28 hot, I think they might work better when cooler as 4 tenths difference is a lot at Brands. Exactly as you say though, it's a compromise and I'll gladly take a tyre that's nearly as quick for half the price that probably lasts more than twice as long! Heard some good things about the DS3.12 but they're far more expensive than RPX and I'm really happy with them. Problem with suspension is most of the people that sell it know nothing and most of the people that recommend it the same 😂 I'm so pleased I didn't follow any trends and spend over 3k on suspension that would require rebuilding every other year for no real benefit. The Bilsteins are monotube and TUV approved so should last. The adjustment makes a huge difference and having 10 clicks of adjustment is more than enough. Kits that boast 3000 different adjustments are ridiculous, it would take 25 years to work out settings 🤣 B16 are stiffer than my old mperfromance HAS kit but less crashy, I'd say they pretty much nailed the springs and dampers, its very stiff when on full hard, then very much softer when full soft. If you want to change them Bilstein UK will revalve and give you different springs.

BMW Mx is an amazing car, so powerful and so smooth. I think you could go much quicker by turning later in almost all the corners. You have so much power, aiming for a later apex and going on a throttle earlier would save a lot. Also find after ten minutes of hard use you find pedal going slightly longer so you lose some confidence. My favourite is the EBC RPX. Is the brake dust this pad produces hard to remove from the wheels? I tracked my car earlier in the year on the stock pads which must have a high amount of steel as it pitted the wheels quite badly so looking for a high performance pad that won’t do that.

No it’s ok, I coat the wheels so most of it comes off with jet wash and wheel cleaner. Sponge does the rest.

So what the difference between this and full trc off? You still look like your doing all the hard work of keeping it straight

It limits wheel spin a bit, even on full throttle, but still allows plenty of slip.
