The part about having the unique learned ability of grit as an adult actually made me tear up and feel powerful. Having recently turned 24, you reminded me of how much I've progressed and i am grateful to you!

Bill, I turned chords 1, 3, and 5 into 7ths also, to get some very interesting color added to the progression, which also seemed to open up a few more right hand keys to have a play with. Like both.

Really glad I’ve found this. Purchased a keyboard a year ago, set it up and it’s been collecting dust ever since. Learning something new as an adult is always hard. Looking forward to this journey with you

Came to this blues series after working through Bill's excellent beginner's series.Even his very early material has that concise, information packed approach. This sometimes requires that you use the youtube gear icon to slow a presentation and absorb all the information but still the best if you like structure and direction in your learning style.

I know these videos are old, but thank you so much for making content like this. You are improving the world and I appreciate this so much. I will sub to your patron sometime soon because I really appreciate everything you've done for me musically, I am done with the Intermediate series now and moving on to more advanced pieces, and I would feel terrible not to give back. I am 16 years old and play Alto Sax in the high school band and this winter became interested in learning piano and your tutorials have been absolutely amazing for helping me do so.

You're really welcome - it's always good to hear when my stuff helps people. You should find that piano and sax really feed into each other: working on one will support your development on the other, as it were. Good luck, and let me know how you get on!

I got back from vacation last Saturday and even though I was exhausted after travel and unpacking, I did find time to work on this. After a week, I’m enjoying my progress. I mostly just use Bb, Eb, and high Bb in my right hand and just started experimenting with the G today. When my fingers get confused, I just take a time out and play a few repetitions in the left hand.

5:54 Yes, I want to sound cool on the piano, Bill! There's a difference between videos which claim to help beginners (but only include a basic demo) and then there are videos which really pinpoint the problems of beginner pianists, help them address and overcome the problem AND teach and motivate them how to improve and eventually overcome this problem. Bill's videos are consistently the latter, and I really appreciate how he keeps his audience "students" in mind and their goal of progressing in their musical journeys❤ (Yes, yes, ah... that's it I have sticky finger syndrome!) Thanks Bill, keep up the awesome work (love your flat cap and camera work also)😊😊😊

Thanks, Bill. This looks like a great tutorial. I shall strive to master each lesson before moving to the next. I find the A and B keys are giving me more trouble than the others. Is this common? I know them, but at times I must think a blink. I think what I have been doing incorrectly over my wasted years off and on (mostly off) of trying to teach myself from books is using the C and G as references to figure out which is A and which is B rather than learning them properly.

Thank you for the lessons! I just started on my musical journey. I am able to understand well because of you. :) One doubt, can I apply the same on a digital keyboard? Thank you once again <3
@BillHilton
@BillHilton 13 күн бұрын
You're welcome! Re: a keyboard, yes, absolutely - you can do most of the course on a fairly simple keyboard. The more like a piano it is the better (ie touch sensitivity, sustain pedal etc) but that doesn't start to matter too much before later in the course, so if all you have to work with for now is a basic keyboard, just go for it - you can still learn all the essentials and then transfer them to a piano at some point in the future. Good luck!

Hi Bill ! I wonder if there is anyone with my problem ? Learn right hand, learn left hand..........then hands together. All is fine until I use the pedal!!!! Everything goes beserk ! Your kind advice please.
@BillHilton
@BillHilton 17 күн бұрын
It's pretty much a universal problem, Alice - it's tempting to assume that, when playing with both hands, the total difficulty is [difficulty of playing left hand] + [difficulty of playing right hand] but actually it's more difficult than that (and stays that way!). The best strategy in the early days is to practise one hand (typically the left) until you have a very high degree of automaticity - it's one of those situations where you have to practise past the point at which you think you've got something. So the short and boring answer is "keep going!"

Never realised how much I relied and appreciated the PDFs normally attached. Mine are all covered in scribbles and hints.
@BillHilton
@BillHilton 18 күн бұрын
Indeed - they’re a tool to be deployed with caution, though, as some people dip out as soon as they see there’s a PDF (“too much like hard work…”) and yes, you’re right the vid probs isn’t going to help people who approach things like that, but it does rather kill the watchtime, which affects the video’s performance in the algorithm, so people who might find it useful never see it… Also every video with a PDF adds to my mighty stock of “I can’t download the PDF!” emails, which I could already employ a moderately sized call centre to deal with…

You obviously had fun doing this video - lots of fun, great content. Theory wise I see the chord progression has a nice ascending bass line that builds to the 4 chord before looping. The Fm7 pulls in the Eb note to bridge nicely from the Eb chord and then onto the Eb/G chord. And finally the Eb chord notes in the right hand focus on 3 of the notes from the pentatonic scale so it should sound good no matter what you hit. (The notes F and C should work nicely as well.) At least that’s my amateur analysis.
@BillHilton
@BillHilton 17 күн бұрын
You’re exactly right, Dougy - it’s all about notes from the pentatonic scale over diatonic chords. Always safe ground. Thanks indeed for that (and you’re right about F and C; the Ab I add at the end isn’t from the Eb pentatonic, so maybe has to be used a bit more judiciously (depending on the sound you’re after…)
