I have a strong feeling that even in many unconfirmed cases that were not credited as killings for you, the enemy plane either did not make it back to nearest friendly base or did not survive landing due to woefully bad condition and structural integrity from your autocannon shells.
@WW2AviationGeek
@WW2AviationGeek 2 күн бұрын
The sim is pretty good about following damaged planes and reporting if they turn into kills. However, if you land before they do (and end the mission), then it can't be counted as a kill....
@Cybernaut76
@Cybernaut76 2 күн бұрын
@@WW2AviationGeek I wish it could be counted. I heard a real life case where Germans intercepted an Allied radio message where they said a bomber made it back to base but did not survive landing so it was granted as a kill to the pilot who damaged it.

You were EXACTLY where it may be easy to misjudge your altitude and the time parachute needs to open. I mean, altimeter alone is not necessarily always a good replacement for common sense. If your control are still ok, definitely stay in your cockpit until your plane plows the field (and spares the local farmer the trouble on that short portion).

I might have been lucky in a jump, but I’m glad I stayed in!!
@Cybernaut76
@Cybernaut76 4 күн бұрын
@@WW2AviationGeek Agreed. Jumping would have been so dangerous even you said you could have survived only if you got lucky. A stricken aircraft could take a mild dive while you are doing preparations to bail out and when you jump, you are already too close to ground for parachute to save you. Too many dangers at that altitude even in real life as well as in this game. Outrageous lack of good luck during the jump is what also led Hans Joachim Marseille into making a tragically failed bail out.

No. The La-5FN allows you to load ammo belts of full HE (not alternating AP/HE). This was a realistic option for the dual 20 mm cannons in this plane. At 800 rounds per minute each, the SsVAK 20mm cannons put 3.4kg of projectiles on target every second. Personally, I like to aim for the fuel tanks in the wing roots of dual engine planes. Combined with the full HE loadout, it has a dramatic effect...

@@WALTERBROADDUS Some brilliant engineering went into the FW 190 design. Fascinatingly clean airframe. Gold standard engine controls (from pilot's perspective). But in every sim I've flown, I dislike the front windshield of the FW 190 more than any other mainstream WW2 fighter. The frame around the front windshield where it meets the canopy is too wide and seriously restricts forward vision... but when you're not looking forward, I guess its pretty good.
