i like silver maples, i planted several seeds in pots this spring and they came up so fast! they are about a foot tall now...gotta figure out where im gonna plant them!
@seanhogan155626 күн бұрын
I collected them and stripped them and froze them. They won’t grow now. What did I do wrong?
@acapps6341Ай бұрын
Silver maples are weak trees. I curse the person who let this tree grow to 70+ feet tall. Such a nightmare three seasons out of four. I can't believe anyone would purposely grow these trees, especially if you have a choice!

I know they have a tap root. I plan on planting some. The Burr is in our area.

I actually found one in my pot a couple weeks ago because I pulled out my hydrangea tree because it had no leaves on it. Now I know why. A squirrel must have planted that nut.

I did, from 'helicopters' wintered on the tree, spouts out quickly but ALL after few months became weak and dried to death. I used different soil and fertilizers.... Is it important not to mess cycle winter/summer for ashes? What a mistake I did? Or just seeds bad or infected? The same with oaks ((
@Yixdy2 ай бұрын
Seedlings are very sensitive to fertilizer, just plant em in soil and leave them alone until they're like a year old

I grow weed and had a bunch of oak trees pop up in my pots inside under my lights. I keep my soil mix outside in a kiddie pool under the shed so I guess the squirrels must've buried acorns in there. They're doing well under the lights though, and I want to take them to the park to plant after I harvest this weed. Maybe my new obsession will be growing trees

Hey, I have two white oak saplings. Both a couple inches high and both with a few small leaves growing from them. One of them is developing a brownish bloch on the leaves, any suggestions? I’ve been watering regularly not to much not to little, just enough to keep the soil moist. Hopefully I didn’t overwater. Anyway, any suggestions are welcome.

❤ i planted 5 sessile oak acorns last Sept, pots on window sill indoors. 1 sprouted, 4 didn't. I plan to do the same later this year with maybe 20 to 30 acorns. I read on a tree council website that oak trees drop the non viable acorns first, then the "big fall" happens a while later. Everyone should sow acorns, our planet needs more trees.

Ciao amico! Grazie mille, ottimo tutorial 🎉

I've seen European chestnut trees thriving in Thorold ON Canada which is slightly north from Niagara Falls Canada. I'm currently in the process of stratifying some European seeds myself here in Canada too. It is estimated that we have roughly 2,000 surviving American chestnut trees in the wild here.

@@OgnjenMali I do not officially have any trees as of yet. I did however put 10 seeds in the refrigerator and 5/10 have sprouts ranging from 1/4 inch (5mm) to 3/4 inch (18mm). I am waiting a few weeks to put them in pots because our temperatures are sub freezing here in Southern ON.
@jimdent3513 ай бұрын
@@OgnjenMali It is my understanding that it's best to grow them in pots for the first year because it's easier to protect the nut from squirrels and mice. The nut will remain edible for rodents for several weeks after they get planted. Then the tree should be planted after it's first year while it's still late winter or early spring. At this time the tree should be protected using a tree tube. Rabbits and deer love biting off young saplings and the tree tube protects them at this point from becoming a snack. It's also my understanding the tree tube is left on the tree for approximately 7 years. There of videos of the process. Just out of curiosity, have you cold stratified any chestnut seeds for yourself, or are you considering doing so in the future?
@jimdent3513 ай бұрын
@@OgnjenMali Congratulations on your success. Can I assume this chestnut tree grown from the seed your grandmother brought from Serbia, is it a European chestnut? Have you had any issues with blight at all? BTW, I don't think it was luck on your part that your tree grew. After all you put the seed in the ground the same way a squirrel would, and that's exactly how nature intended it to be. Putting them in pots for the first year only really improves the tree's chance for survival because it gives you more control and allows the tree more protection from nature itself.
