This truck has been a challenge for me over the past couple of weeks as you will seen in the video. The lesson here is do your best to check the engine out before you install it and even that may not be enough. Be careful when doing a job like this especially if you are by yourself as you can get seriously injured if your not careful so work carefully and methodically and things should work out fine.

We were doing this with a 4.7 from a 2002 Durango into a 2002 Durango with a 4.7 and then discovered the 16tooth/32tooth tone wheel/reluctor ring issue. One was a JTEC the other was an NGC/ Live and learn. Your vids were still very informative for me!

@timmytee12 Depends on the year really, some rear mains can be replaced by just dropping the oil pan and removing the rear bearing cap, for others you need to remove the trans. You might want to check out the series that I did on becoming and being a technician on my ETCG1 channel if your thinking of becoming a technician. Good luck and thanks for the comment.

@LayneC10 Normally you do disconnect the torque converter from the flex plate before removing the engine but in the case of the second removal of this one I had 3 of the 4 torque converter bolts in so I had to pull it out with the engine, luckily nothing was damaged in the process.

@timmytee12 That would be the front crank seal, to replace that you need to remove the crank pulley which may require the use of a puller to remove from the engine, then it's just a matter of changing the seal.

@OneMoeAtheist No, the reason is that an air tank cannot maintain constant pressure which is vital to the leak down working correctly. The truth is had I taken more time to check it out this might not have happened, the yard says they test every engine, I took them at their word but you can't always do that as this video shows.

I always pull the intake off of the 4.7's before removal. Clears up a tad of room between the engine and cowl. I've done both 4wd and 2wd and don't see a lot of difference in either. Awesome video none the less!!!!

@Michiganborn1969 Rebuilding costs about 3 times as much and takes a bunch of time, it actually works out better to just replace the engine. This engine has a 3 year parts and labor on it in case something like this happens.

@BrayBraythemidg If it's 4WD you may be hanging up on the front differential, you might be able to drop it down if that's the case, it also might be easier to get out if you took the intake off before you pull it.

@Stick1370 It costs about 3 times more to rebuild than it does to replace, not to mention the time involved. I don't do rebuilds anymore unless it's something I can't find at salvage. I do hope to do some rebuild videos at some point however.

Great videos, great philosophy when working against the machines, I feel your pain. I wanted to comment about the floor though. Throw down some masonite. It's cheap, strong and thin enough to roll your picker onto when starting from the concrete. You'll need to support the underside just a little at the threshold on the floor, broaden the bump per say like you have but for the width of the masonite so you can come across anywhere... not sure if I'm explaining it clearly. I know it works because I used to do the same with huge acid filled batteries in telephone buildings that were just as heavy as an engine. Hope I helped. Keep up the great videos!

@xdyingfetusx69 I was about to suggest that you check a schematic because at the top of every diagram is the battery and the negative going to ground, remove the negative cable and you disconnect EVERY circuit in the system. The only reason you can catch a ground on the body is because this is the path back to the battery via the negative battery cable which is connected to the engine block and the body, without the cable connection there is no circuit path back to the battery.

@AnUglyAmerican It took me 10min to make my boards and they work for the most part. If the Civic was not behind the truck I would be able to put it farther back in the shop and not have to deal with the bump so I don't think it's practical to try and remove the 'hump'.
