HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

The probe was entering someone else's territory, ignoring all attempts at communication and making no attempts itself...and then murdered an entire station when they went to alert....and in the text of the story itself it mentions that the probe was aware of all of this. That's not being overzealous, that's being an invading asshole

I feel like it was kind of like a colony of ants trying to attack a human. While the human has a blowtorch as it's least powerful "weapon" with them... :P At some point the tiny bites will piss the human off enough that it'll just go "alright, that's it. I was just walking here and these ants suddenly attacked me. Time to wipe them out..."

i know of a similer story where aliens invaded earth and destroyed all of our historical information and religious pieces and goverments and laws in an attempt to demoralize us into giving up but then with no more restraining laws we made all of the most deadly things in fiction to attack over welm and perpetualy chase the aliens down in revenge.

My guess is that life is not that common if at all through the universes. Otherwise Humanity wouldn't be harvesting them. But precisely because of that they kept sending probes just in case. The moment life was found (probably for the first time ever) that universe acquired VIP status and a became a source of new knowledge for humanity. That's at least my only explanation of why would they be so generous.

Oh it isn't that they aren't alone. It is that they don't know why the probe malfunctioned so they finally have new questions to seek the answers of. Absolutely nothing would squash humanity faster than learning every answer. We are explorers in every way. If we had every answer humanity would lose it's spirit.

Well, the thread for all these stories is literally HFY (Humanity Fuck Yeah). So it is to be expected. Personally while I know it's important to keep a humble view on life, I find the stories amusing and a good counterbalance to all the other overwhelming amount of fictions that depict humanity as little more than dumb and worthless.
