One of my favorites in this category is the ballad of Billy the Kid, Harri by far one of the deepest rabbit holes of any musician…. I believe the song was partly inspired by a woman he was involved with who was going through something, but also a series of Picasso art that involved sleeping women. Very Beatles like. Most of my favorite Billy Joel songs are his album cuts. They are all hidden gems. Thanks for the reaction Harri.

A very endearing deep cut, and very Beatles-esque indeed! I also think the lyrics are what you thought they meant, just someone trying to comfort someone else whose heart had been broken too many times. That reminds me of another of Billy's songs An Innocent Man (an homage to Ben E. King and the Drifters), which goes deeper into that theme. I see that you've reacted to it already though!

This is my first time hearing this song, as well...

Glass Houses having been one of my first vinyl acquisitions (one of two albums I picked up at a school fundraising event in 1980), I've had an affinity for this lesser known gem for quite a long time. I eventually acquired all of Joel's albums, and let me tell you, it's a deep well! I have no doubt Harri will continue to be delighted by his music for a long time to come.

Harri, Thank you for continuing to react my favorite artist, Billy Joel. He has so many songs that weren't released as singles that could have been hits. Some of his most famous songs aren't as good. I recommend "Until the Night", "I Don't Want to Be Alone", "Sleeping with the Television On", "Careless Talk", "This Night", "Big Man on Mulberry Street" and "Laura" to name a few. He is one of those artists that have so many strong albums that you can play from beginning to end.

It’s one thing to have all these extremely varied and also very well executed songs. That’s greatly impressive enough. But he also wrote them all himself, with great lyrics on each, and has the voice to boot. Not to mention the quality, rarely settling for some mundane 3 chord song. Very rare talent I would agree

This is off his album "Glass Houses". It's a great song and I always wondered why it was relegated to B-side when it could have been a hit.

Harri, if you want to do a very beautiful song most people never heard of from Billy Joel, it’s called “Souvenir”. It’s rarely ever performed live, but he did so on a tv show in the 70’s on the BBC called the old grey whistle test. It shows off his Mozart or Chopin trained talent and it’s so nostalgic it’s hard not to cry when listening to it. It’s very very very short yet it encapsulates life in a snapshot.
