Hey! I'm not a bricklayer, in fact I'm at uni studying psychology and philosophy, but I really love your videos. They're super interesting, artful (I believe good bricklaying, like yours, is truly art) and a great personal insight into what life is like on-site. Very best of luck at the super trowel competition!!

And every thing you aka preach about brickwork is like listening to every old bricklayer I was around during my apprenticeship and through out bumping it to the old wise trails on site! You ooze wisdom and knowledge like they did! Hats off too ya

Hey bud, I'm a Landscaper myself. Well brickpaver really, who has learnt a few other tricks. I'm fascinated buy bricklaying for some reason. I am so keen to learn and do a few small walls. I've been looking for someone really good to learn from. Watching you do that was awesome!! speed very much goes hand in hand with skill I've found. Stoked to have found your channel.

1. Six course high corner to each front pillar, six course corner to each back corners...(Pick level up once each corner). 2. Tail out (extend) the corners to a line on the gables, just enuff to enable all four corners to be finished to scaffold height. 3. Run the back six courses in, stay on back, pop another couple of six course corners to the back and run in. 4. Six course corner to each front pillar, Tail out (extend corners along gables to a line) 5. Repeat til done. (Obviously final job is to crash in the gables) N.B the level is in the hand hardly at all = more laying.
@alternativeopinion310

Freehand you should hardly ever at all need to build more than a six course corner. After a while a corner this size is usually plumb. As you know BIG corners drift out of line and can take some tw4tting back😮

Another great video charlie pal! Ive just got to ask out of curiosity, why when you do a new course, do you wall the brick furthest from the corner and work to the corner? Always start from the corner myself. Thanks, and congratulations to you and amy!

Great Video Chaz . Look back at the video , lay the brick and scrap it once . Doing it twice every brick is time wasted . After levelling and plumbing then scrap off the excess mortar Get Tom to honey comb the bricks so you can pick them up easily it’s worth a try . Great video Charlie take care and congratulations to you and Amy . All the best .

Hi, been watching your videos for ages, really interesting! I’ve always had 1 question, which might seem a bit daft given that it’s obviously NOT a problem… but when you lay loads of courses in 1 go, does the weight not start to squeeze the cement out of the courses towards the bottom? Or has the cement started to go off enough? 😬

Sometimes it does it's more likely to happen if the bricks are wet and it's cold out I have had times when I dry the bricks or the wall with a torch that attaches to a propane tank

How do you get level points building corners? At least with profiles you can transfer a mark with water level or lazer
@ericlyon1425

the bricks are laid to a gauge..say 4 course equals 300mm.. so long as you keep to the gauge , all 4 corners will be level..presuming that the work underneath was laid level to begin with.
