"AYWK: They're making it into an international airport...". Interesting how things work out - in the mid 1950s it was an 'international' airport as there was a weekly KLM DC-3 that came through from Hollandia (now renamed Jayapura after Dutch New Guinea became part of Indonesia in 1962(?)). This was a big deal, as it had real upholstered seats as opposed to the C-47 conversions that Qantas used with a blanket on the benches along each side of the cabin.

Ryan, this past weekend (June 6-9) I visited my grandson at Ft. Riley Kansas. He and his wife were talking about.what mission field they wanted to get into when he retires from the Army and what major to use his VA benefit for. I knew he also wanted to learn to fly so I mentioned your channel. We watched your blog from last week about being a missionary bush pilot and they went ballistic. They watched many more of your videos and I believe they are hooked. All this to ssy they may be contacting you to talk about it. She is also going to enroll in the local college in some free program to become an RN. I pray it works out for them. You were a true inspiration to them.

Yea, crash investigators have discovered that pilots losing track of where they are in a checklist while troubleshooting a problem often leads to really bad outcomes. Any tool that helps avoid that is a definite bonus. Traveling to Asia recently we could’ve used that checklist box just to navigate all the entry requirements and paperwork. :)

I've watched dozens of your vids, and searched google but still don't understand - what is the engine bypass and normal, and how does it work and how does it change the airplane, thrust, flying, etc? I understand that bypass is so that something doesn't get sucked into the turbine core, but how does it work and does it affect performance? Thanks!
@canuckwing0195
@canuckwing0195 2 жыл бұрын
Pt6 engines have the intake air for the compressor enter through a screen at the back of the engine and reverses the airflow forward. The bypass uses the energy from the mass of the grass, bugs, birds, etc. to flow passed the inlet. It can make the compressor work a bit harder and nominally increase the compressor temp resulting in higher turbine temps. These rises are small, but the engine does work harder for the same power output.
@MightyRob1
@MightyRob1 2 жыл бұрын
@@canuckwing0195 So from what I understand, the air is being pulled in from the backside of the engine compartment, through a screen (with holes big enough to let adequate airflow through but small enough to stop leaves, birds, stones, etc. to get through) and then that air goes forward to the front on the engine and then turns around to go into the compressor? I'm guessing due to the performance/temp hit you can only use bypass as lower altitudes (for air density) and at slower speeds? Is there a hole or something under the screen that lets the rocks and stuff fall out (so the screen doesn't become clogged to the point of blocking airflow)?
@canuckwing0195
@canuckwing0195 2 жыл бұрын
@@MightyRob1 OK it's a little more complex. First off it's a reverse flow engine. The air enters at the rear goes through the compressor, continues forward for ignition and through the power turbines exhausting at the front. Take a look at the engine cowling and note the exhaust pipe at the front. This makes the beefy prop shaft much shorter and the engine alot lighter. There is actually a few pounds of jet thrust from the exhaust. The inlet duct is a curved divergent duct (gets bigger) and the air is taken at a point where the mass of the debris cannot make the curve and carries on straight through, and then overboard, including rain and hail. Hopefully not to many rocks. Hope this helps you.

Missionary Bush Pilot I’m talking about the logging roads near where you took off from…I’m all for roads, but there is a lot of evidence that logging in this area is being done in an extremely irresponsible manner. I’ve been watching it from satellite images and it looks like the early days of the devastation in the Amazon.

China doesn't recognize patents, I don't know if you know this of not, China does not understand or recognize the rules that capitalist countries do.
