EDWARDS RETURNS | What does it mean for Liverpool?
Fenway Sports Group have confirmed that Michael Edwards has been appointed the group's new CEO of Football.
The former Liverpool sporting director will once again oversee all football matters, including installing a new face in his old role.
He will also have a big hand in the search for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, with Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim the frontrunners.
But what else did we learn from FSG's statement on Edwards? And how might his return benefit Liverpool?
Reds reporter David Lynch is here to provide the answers, including examining the potential move to a multi-club model and the ramifications for Mike Gordon.

I am but think there could be few unpopular decisions made ..could honestly see Mo and TAA being sold for huge amounts for reinvestment..certainly hard to see a hard nose Businessman not taking 150 million for Mo

Really happy he’s returning. He lives and breaths the money ball philosophy. For that way of working to come from the top down to Hughes etc can only breed success 😀.

Happy to have Edwards back & happy that Jurgen is leaving on a high. Like everyone, I was genuinely devastated when Klopp announced he would leave but with Edwards & Xabi I am feeling slightly more positive :). Great channel BTW!!

Although I’m pleased that Edward’s is returning, I’m not so enthused about Hughes joining as sporting director. I understand that Hughes has worked under different financial constraints previously, however I don’t see any evidence of him successfully identifying a lot of great, elite talent. It’s not like the amazing work being done at Brighton. His appointment does feel like “jobs for the boys”.

Although it’s amazing to have him back….Doesn’t matter if Edwards brought on Salah. At the end Klopp had to manage these players up , and he made them world class. Not Edwards.

Yes there is always some friction as long as its healthy.... To me why can't lfc have got both... Why just get thiago and no others ar the same time to complement him.... Perhaps its down to lack of enough funding to keep both happy.... Its a good return in my book, lets get the best manager available now... And ensure that both Edwards Hughes Manager are properly funded....👍

Hey David, another great video as always. Just have a question. Am I right in saying that Edward’s will lead the search for a new manager? I just read he doesn’t leave his role at ludunautics until June 1st. How would he appoint a new manager if he’s not at the club until June 1st?

Thank you! He will definitely be a big part of that search alongside Richard Hughes. To be honest, I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the official start date, there’s absolutely no doubt that work will start before then, including searching for a new manager.

The thing that concerns me with Richard Hughes is that he spent big money on the likes of Jordan Ibe, Brad Smith, Dom Solanke etc. They were not good transfers for Bournemouth.

Yeah, he looks alright now but that's after 6+ years, that included relegation and him scoring 4 goals in 50 appearances or something like that! Would be interested in Hughes' managerial appointment record as well. I don't follow Bournemouth closely but wasn't Scott Parker appointed and sacked after 3 months during Hughes' reign? @@davidlynchlfc

David I've never been into this stuff before as I started watching football in October 2022 so I'm asking how long would it take for FSG to buy a second football club? Could it be before this summer?

I would be surprised if things moved that quickly! I imagine Edwards’ first priority will be installing a sporting director and manager. Then focus will turn to finding the right club for FSG to expand their portfolio and those sorts of transactions tend to take months from there.

Replace Klopp in the aggregate? A huge part of Klopp's man-management is his charisma...now much as I love Xabi, he's no Klopp in that respect. What are they going to do...bring in Muhammad Ali? They're going to need a good heater & a helluva lot of smelling salts

Only because klopp is leaving, we all know there's been animosity between them. Been supporting this club for 53yrs but I simply cannot afford to spend £300 (that's nearly a months disability money )on a ticket and being disabled makes it even less of a chance of a ticket on top of travelling expenses because of not having the appropriate post code. Outpriced the common man/ fan for bldy touri$t$ and then complains about the atmosphere. This season shows the corrupt influence of oil money and the disgraceful biased refereeing, VAR and media.
