This is a beautiful fish. It's often sold as a good fish for beginners. Find out if I agree or not.

You have great informational videos.I am still in the planing stage for a 55 gallon FOWLER tank and in my plan I was going to add a shoal of 3-5 Blue/Green Reef Chromis because the info I have read so far said they were peaceful and hardy which makes for a great beginner fish.I was going to add them after cycling my tank and adding a clean up crew;however, you have helped me to realize as a beginner I need to do more research and maybe reconsider my decision.

Great video! I have a pair and they seem to like New Life Spectrum pellets.

@HowlClap Thanks, glad you like the videos. If he's eating off the glass, that's great. Just be sure to leave enough on there for him. My Kole tang gets most of his food that way.

@HowlClap Try garlic soaked nori. You can buy it that way, no need to soak it yourself. I've not used this myself, but have heard many stories of success with it. Enough that I say it's worth a try.

They do well with flake, pellets, and also really like baby brine and other meaty foods on at least a weekly basis.

In the wild chromis are micro plankton eaters. So I suggest Daphnia, small brine shrimp, or the frozen reef preparation. For the most part mind will eat the same formula II flake food that the rest of my fish eat. Once they are established in your tank you can give them those kinds of food once or twice a week and stick with the flake the majority of the time. Formula II is a very good food because it contains a lot of different kinds of nutrition I've had good experience with it over the years.

It sort of depends on how big the tank is but yellow tale blue damsels are great beginner fish. A. Ocellaris (called false percula) clownfish are great if they are captive bred fish (easy to find nowdays), goby like the yellow watchman are quite easy to care for. There really are a lot of good fish out there.

HAHA i was really confused when you said that. Thanks for responding and for the info! (:

Very good video. I have had a tremendous challenge trying to keep the green chromis. My problem has been keeping them alive beyond 1 month. Most of the time their scales start to discolor and then a red spot appears which looks like it grows and exposes flesh.

Exactly what i've been searching for on youtube, Great advice and Great info. i recently bought 3 green chromis (i was broke but wanted to stock my tank, i know patience is prefered) one died 2 days ago so i bought 3 more, and with in 6 hours a small chromis died again, my peramiters are fine in my 30 gallon, thats why i've been searching for answers! i wasnt sure if they were acclimated bcuz they were hiding most of the time. i thought they were just scared.what food do u recomend?

so... i got 2 of these from petco. I got the temperature at 78 degrees f and the water parameters just right. I fed them some small balls of food. very small. I keep them in a tank with my clownfish. 20 gallon tank. couple hours later at night, they are getting inactive. One is hiding behind the heater. Barely moving. Only the fins. Just sitting there... The other one is the same but hiding in the rocks. Is there a problem right now with their behavior?

One aquarium store I went to in the County I live in have blue/green Chromis for only $3.00,but I think you'll be advise to buy 3 or 4 or more as these are school fish.

Hopefully I'll be getting my first fish and coral next week for my 20g kent marine tank, just has a few snails and an emerald crab so far. I know the coral I'll get will be mushroom or/and polyp but I wasn't sure if it was going to be a clownfish pair or 2/3 chromis, I didn't want to get too many chromis for my 20g reef because I really want to get a clownfish pair and I also want to get a royal gramma, pygmy/possum wrasse, goby and/or blenny and a firefish pair but I know that's stocking the tank a lil high so except the clowns it would be 1 other pair so it would be either chromis or firefish.

I recommend you head on over to thereeftank dot com and ask for some advice on your stocking.

@HowlClap Not yet. I can say that the lawnmower is my least favorite. They just can't seem to get enough to eat and they tend to get angry as they get older.

any videos on blennies yet?

Sounds like an ulcer. They have several causes so it would be difficult to diagnose. It's a good idea to join an online forum like thereeftank with a dot and a com after it to get as much info as you can.

I just got two chromis 2 days ago, they both were very active and swimming around and eating a lot. This morning i woke up and one of them was hiding in the corner behind the filter, he was able to swim out but it seemed like he had a hard time to swim and was try to "sit" on the hydra filter. It started swimming a little bit more like it used but after 15 mins he sat at the bottom of the tank and was almost breathing very fast, after 30 mins like that now it swimming fine again. I tested the water this morning and no ammonio or nitrate detected, salinity and temperature are inside the parameters. Any idea of what is happening?

These are delicate fish. They do take some time to finally get used to their environment. It is expected that you will have some skittishness until they gain strength.

I'm wanting to add a group to a 90 gallon tank along with some anthias, but I am finding reports online about them killing one another off. I like to keep my fish a long time so am unsure if these are the right fish for me. How many would you recommend I add to the tank and what are your thoughts about aggression?
@Azfishkeeping9 жыл бұрын
I kept a male square side, lyretail, bartlets, and chromis in the same tank. The anthias were definitely dominant though I did not experience deaths due to this. Both species are similar in care requiring the same food. I have found that chromis are not the most hardy fish you can buy but with proper care and environment (small fish love SPS to hide in or SPS skeletons) will last.

In these chromis the males turn orange/yellow when they're ready to spawn.

There are many factors that go into that. Number, type of fish, tank size, aquascape. There may be things you can do to help.
