I started using a glasses case, the snap closure type as a container for my appliqué or cross stitch necessities. My ‘fancy’ one is from the Vera Bradley outlet shop. I attach a strip of magnetic tape (the refrigerator magnet advertisements work cut into strips) to the inside of the lid. It’s easy to take along with a project or even keep in your purse. Holds bobbins of thread, needles, pins, small scissors, needle threader... I’m looking forward to seeing how the silk thread works out for you.

Hi Jody. I agree with you on everything but the ‘factory farming’ reference if it includes dairy animals. You are welcome and entitled to eat or not eat anything you like. Most dairy cattle are very well raised and if we didn’t have cattle raised like they are, we would not have enough food to feed the worlds population. We could get into a long discussion about protein and cattle and it’s importance vs plant protein, but this isn’t the place. Both are needed and more can and should be done by agriculture and those consumers (all of us), that drive production based on our desires for cheap and abundant food. As you said, many of us are privileged here in the US and don’t know or understand hunger and true need. Loved your FlossTube and projects and views and love for people and kindness. I also love love love your appliqué work and also the idea for stitching Amanda Gormans poem. Great idea!! 🤗❤️ till next time. Sandy
@trixietricycle
@trixietricycle 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandy! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the thoughtful comment. As someone who works directly with animals and many of the people who raise them, you have a very unique and well informed knowledge base about this. I respect the heck out of you. I can see how my reference to 'factory farming' could be interpreted that I think all farmers or people who raise animals for human consumption operate in the same way - and I don't. I know there is a wide range when it comes to methods used to house and care for them. I have spent most of my adult life reading and researching and making decisions as a consumer based on the sustainability of those practices, the knock-on effects of those industries (both good and bad), and how the animals are treated. It is an enormous topic and yes, I understand that my choices are made from a place of privilege that not everyone has. I really look forward to maybe meeting up with other members of our stitching community in person at retreats, etc. so I have a chance to listen to people who didn't grow up how or where I did and who can engage in meaningful conversation about where our lives intersect and where they diverge. I'm grateful to be part of a community of such diverse ideas and backgrounds, and for those of you who have opted to hang out with me from time to time even if we don't always see or understand things the same way.

The MFE pattern would look gorgeous on the grey fabric with gold thread! I wish there were all these cross stitch goodies in thrift stores here, they are lovely. To stitch Amanda Gorman’s poem on that fabric is such a great idea! I’ve been a vegetarian since my early twenties for about the same reasons. I have no problem with, usually native people, hunting respectfully and using everything, though I couldn’t do that either (big softie here 😁). I do have an issue with factory farming which is huge and highly efficient in my country (not a lot of space). I think people who eat meat should visit a slaughterhouse at least once, I agree it’s made invisible.

I love your vintage finds. I don’t normally, if ever, comment critically on people’s stitching but (you can roll your eyes, it’s ok) the bee skep just isn’t right for G. Leget. You called the sampler both beautiful and pretty which it truly is, and your linen pick is fabulous. But, as you said, the bee skep is cute. Save it for a BBD or something else or find a skep that is more antique and more subdued. Just my two cents for what it is worth. Love your vids, preach all you want.

You are so right about inclusivity! As far as food I know where it comes from and choose to not eat beef or pork and very little of other meats but the list is too long to share. It is not for any moral high-minded reason though it is just because I do not like to feel full and meat makes me feel so full. Plus as a little girl we were vacationing at a mountain cabin north of Spokane and I talked one of my sisters into walking down the country road with me until our parents came along to pick us up. A cow came charging down the hill towards us and being the 8 year old authority that I was I assured her it was not a bull because they had to be all black. Where that came from I don't know but we were both wearing vibrantly colored shorts and tops our mom had actually made for us and the cow wasn't crazy about those colors, or us, or something. He never came through the fence but he was very mad and my little sister actually cried. Not me because I held fast to my belief that it was only a cow and not a raging bull!
