my nephew's 72 F100, a 300 winding up to 5200rpm built with S.B.Chevy valves, Comp roller rockers, Comp 268 cam, Ross forged pistons 9.5:1 cr, MSD 6a, MSD blaster II, Headman header, OFFY C intake, Edelbrock 500 carb, and coupled to a C6 trans. Exhaust leaves the header to dual 2.25 inch with Flowmaster Series 50s. We took out the original 360 V8 for this beast.

If you're running the Cyclone headers, get an X-pipe. It's good for a few more horses, and some extra torque too. Keep the exhaust 2.5 inches all the way out the back, too.

I had the last year of the big six in an econoline...After it spent its entire life as a bakery vehicle...after it was a dog mobile for my dog and the trans cooler line broke...it went to a friend who used it for years towing a 27ft camper and living in it, up n down bluffs and hills daily..it was a champ. Last I heard it's gone but not sure how or why.

No port work done, and probably should have, but it runs pretty good as is. It's a carbed 80s head. Have you poked around forsix? They have a few piston combos that work well. Either a 351W or 352FE piston is used as a cheap compression bump. The ones in this 300 are custom forged by Ross.

Those are surprising 6's. 7 main bearings, and forged cranks available. They like to crack pistons, but forged ones will cure that. About 30 years ago, Ak Miller drove a 1966 Mustang with a big 6 to bonneville, uncorked his headers, ran 145 mph both ways. Then corked up and went home. Nice.

@LilReddneck A Cleveland is far from shitty. I would certainly not put one in a pickup, but a light car, they scream. I built a pretty nice one back in 94. Now, a 400 with cleveland heads, would go in a half ton pickup, maybe pulling light loads. This 300 in the video? It does anything you want... drags, cruising, towing, commuting.

It's not a roller cam, but there's a guy on fordsix that's making a few. The roller rockers are actually for a 302 pedestal mount. Had to use these because the head was already installed, and any other rocker would require machining. Since it spins under 5500, and valve springs arent that stiff, I didnt see the issue with running this type. This head is off an 82. The older ones are easier to run rollers on. Just about every cam mfr makes em for a 300, just gotta look.

@04yz125Man Yes. Both this truck and my truck have the same header. Also, the intake is bolted to the exhaust manifold. It sends exhaust to warm up the intake. If you run a header with a 4bbl intake, it may run crappy when its cold. A couple ways to cure it are, run heater lines and make a block for the bottom side of the intake. And #2, get 2 sets of manifold heat risers.
@nevrenufhp
@nevrenufhp 14 жыл бұрын
Got it at Summit, but it will hit the frame on a 67-72. It's a Hedman, I think it was $150. Makes a nice difference in power when coupled to a 2 or 4bbl intake.

The "wizbang" valve cover is from Clifford, and was needed to clear the roller rockers. We replaced the original worn out ones with the rollers as an upgrade, since it needed a set anyway. Torque is around 400 pounds, it launches pretty hard off the line. As soon as you hit the pedal it wants to go. Not too much trouble passing at all.....according to my nephew. The valve cover is from Clifford, it took 3-4 months of backorder to get it. Words of wisdom: Dont order one between Halloween and New Year's.

That's called a V-belt, my friend. There's two of them going to that water pump if that truck has power steering. I couldn't get a good look under there at the belts, tho, so I can't tell. I'll take a V-belt over Serpentine any day. Easier to get belts for older vehicles(Mower belts will fit right on there in a pinch) and they don't squeal as easy, and on most systems, if one belt breaks, you still have a second belt on the water pump.

The vortek style supercharger, they are basically a belt driven turbo plumbed into the throttle body. A turbo, you have to get a custom built manifold or try to use a stock iron one, fab up a mount for it, I saw one on here, think it's the Aussie 240 Ford inline, revving it cherry red.
@nevrenufhp
@nevrenufhp 14 жыл бұрын
@bobwatters There's lots more that could be done, but money is the limiting factor, as with any build. The main power secret is in the head. There's been many attempts to get 2 V8 heads welded together, but the intake and exhaust manifolds must be kustom made. There's also a place in australia that may be making a hi flow aluminum head. It's been a few years in the making.

They are Ross forged pistons, running 9.5:1, and were about $900. You can also use factory 8.2:1 pistons and a 240 head to bump it up over 9:1, which really makes a difference in mpg. The red truck in my other videos gets 12 mpg in town. All stock internals, but the same intake, carb & header as this one. The rods are factory. Yes, OHV. They are very tractor like in the way they run. Torque is there from idle up to 4k on a stock engine like the red truck and 5200 on this one.
@nevrenufhp
@nevrenufhp 13 жыл бұрын
@SoAdROX00 You have to buy an Offy or Clifford intake for a 4bbl. then, get a 4bbl carb. I used a piece of 1/4" all thread and ball sockets for the throttle.

The power comes in right at the stock stall speed of the C6's torque converter. It makes power from 1200 to around 5200, which is a broader range than a stock 300. I wouldn't want to put this cam with a manual trans & highway gears!
