@Gee Smith I am an addict with almost 7 years of sobriety. While I was using, I LOVED my daughter just as much as I do now! Unfortunately, the need to keep using drugs overpowered any rational thought processes. It took getting arrested and hitting rock bottom until I was ready to surrender and give up the fight. Addicts (whether sober or not) love their children. Addiction is more powerful than anything else, as it changes your brain. Addicts can’t stop until there is something major that intervenes, such as getting arrested, over dosing, going to jail, etc. Addiction makes you feel like you’re a slave to the drug and that there isn’t a way out. I used for years to mask the pain of a sexual trauma I experienced. Thankfully I’m clean and sober and have been for six and a half years and I’ve never been happier! *#soberAF* *#onedayatatime*

Oh Mal, this is one of the best interviews...it was actually beautiful to me. Your advice to her was SOLID. And your pictures, can we talk about those for a minute! They brought tears to my eyes. I truly wish that I lived near there simply for the fact that I would love to meet Gloria and take her out to lunch and spend some time with her. I feel she needs to be surrounded by a solid group of strong women who can show her how to love herself again and validate herself as a woman. I feel like her guilt over loosing her children has really made her feel as though she's not even a good woman in general. There IS life after all this(like you said), just like there was life after her cancer! Please keep an eye on her 🙏 she seems pretty opened minded so maybe recovery could really happen some day soon. 🙏 That's my hope anyhow...❤ Great interview! ❤

I hear her! I was turned away from women’s shelters due to disabling health conditions. They said you had to be able bodied enough to do their chores without accommodations. They told me to go to a nursing home, which told me I was not qualified to stay there, because I was not sick enough. I knew I was not sick enough for a nursing home.. I went back into the abusive relationship because I had nowhere to go, and I got skull fractures and was almost killed. These treatments and shelters are discriminating against people and making it hard for us to get off the streets. One treatment also told me they could give me Suboxone for opiate addiction, but when I told them I was once prescribed narcotics for pain, they told me they couldn’t treat me with Suboxone. Finally, I found a doctor who understands that was the route to pain treatment for a lot of people. People may have different opinions of Medically Assisted Treatment but, at the level of housing, these treatments and shelters need to stop discriminating and give people a chance to live, even if others may need to pitch in to help with the chores or be flexible and make accommodations. People like me who were made disabled by beatings, and like her who are injured, need to have somewhere to go!

@OctoberRust1973
@OctoberRust1973 2 жыл бұрын
Britta, you’re correct. Years back when I was in the process of leaving my abusive ex husband I was interviewed to stay at a woman’s shelter. The bedrooms were upstairs (I’m disabled and can’t do steps) and I was told I’d be watching the children while the women with jobs worked and I’d have to cook and clean. I have multiple things wrong and couldn’t do any of that. I was on unemployment at the time (now on disability) and they said they’d be taking my entire check to pay for staying there. I talked to one woman that had been stuck there for so long because she couldn’t save up since you had to pay to stay. I ended up getting my own apartment luckily at the time. Things are harder these days…landlords want people to make 3-4 times the rent for a $500.00 a month slum apt in the city. A lot of people are stuck in abusive relationships. It’s not as easy as “just go to a shelter”.

Under statement of the year. It's so true, they take every part of someone's soul and affect every single aspect of your life. But that said, it is treatable and recovery is possible and addicts who get into recovery tend to live life in a very good way, because of all theyve lost and worked hard to get back they live in a higher sense of awareness, appreciation, etc. They dont just experience goodness, they shine with it and understand it. It's hard not to when you've lost so much and been through so much, the otherside is beautiful though and I see it everyday. I see people who've been through the worst and they are now people I look up to because when they're happy, they're TRULY happy, when they help someone..they're truly helping someone. They are humble, kind, non judgmental and operate on a whole diff level than people who haven't gone through addiction. They know what they have to lose, how hard they have to work, that is a never ending process and truly receive the blessings of life.

The butchered her so bad. Through it all she got hooked on pain peels. We lost her in 2013 at the age of 34 to a drug overdose. She left 2 beautiful but y’s behind. She passed on her oldest sons 17th birthday her youngest son was 12. We tried everything to get her treatment and get her clean. But you can’t make someone get clean. I miss her every day. I lost my brother in 1996 to a drunk driver. I am the only child left. My mom is the strongest woman I know. Drugs scare me so bad. Mal, this was a heart breaker :( I loved when I saw her eyes lite up when you started asking her about her favorite things. So sad. I hope this woman finds the strength to get clean and get her children back. She said she would do anything to have them, and I am sure her kids would love to have their mommy back. I will be praying for her Mal. It was so sad hearing about her little boy. He will welcome her back with open arms. I pray she can get the strength to beat this and be with her children. In my family , we lost two young women who both left little girls who need their mommy so much. I would love to see her with her children again.

Ugh her interview really touched my heart! ❤ as a mother I could NEVER imagine having my kids taken from me. I would be a absolute train wreck so I can definitely feel her emotions. You can definitely tell that this mama LOVES her kids with her whole being she just feels defeated 😔 she even said that she fought for them but she had no one on her side to actually help her which is really sad! I pray that her kids are in a safe stable environment. Kids are very resilient and the fact that they are asking her mom about her just shows that they are asking about her. Her boy will always have that abandonment from being taken away from her but I pray that one day they can reunite and she can tell them what really happened. She also has had alot of health issues amd has beat the odds when they told her she wouldn't recover so GOD definitely has a plan for her. She has a purpose in this life she just needs to figure out what it is. You can also tell that she has some kind of mental disorder too. I pray that she can get some help so she can be the woman she destined to be. She's not stupid by any means she just needs some help for once.
