I think it kind of highlights the reason this sort of advertising will continue to exist and that consumers need to be more aware. We want our free KZfaq videos, our free social media, our free apps, but creators have to be payed in some way and that is why our data has been monetised. I don't think Bailey is demonising the ideas of advertisement, just the way merchandising and advertising has become a science used to manipulate.

Highly recommend the messed up origins series by Jon Solo. He does breakdowns of those histories. Be hard to do a podcast episode on unless she Juss chose a few bc there are so many nursery rhymes from so many different cultures that all have long and complicated backstories of their own and usually multiple versions.

The smoking baby is from the region close to where I came from. After a lot of attention from the media he got help through therapy and psychological counseling. He was encouraged to play outside and do fun activities like playing, running, climbing etc. Little by little he reduced his smoking habit but the parents said he could get headaches if he didn't smoke. After some effort it seemed that the smoking got less and less but he ate a lot instead and gained a lot of weight. Then he had to do another rehabilitation for his weight problems. The mother said it was very intense but now he is a healthy kid and excels at school. He is around 13 years old now and said he would like to support kids that are addicted to smoking. It's so hard to quit, so don't even try one, he mentioned. His story led to the government launching campaigns to tackle the smoking problem, especially for kids picking up the habit in smaller villages.

as soon as you mentioned the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade I remembered an advertising phenomenon! Elf On The Shelf originated from a 2005 children's book that didn't take off but in the 2009 Macy's parade they advertised it as a "Christmas tradition" and marketed it as something families NEED in their homes. It's a toy that kids aren't allowed to touch but it watches them constantly to see if they're naughty or nice... The common theory is that it is a tool to get kids used to a surveillance state where they don't have autonomy or privacy

My now-12 year old wanted me to start doing it a couple years ago, "for my younger siblings". TikTok actually tracks what you're typing. Literally, each letter you type on your phone and the words you tend to use... Usually, they track your Google searches or what you click on on certain websites (thanks to cookies). But TikTok goes the whole distance by following everything you do. Everything you do on your phone. Their algorithm is crazy.

Who else is LOVING her casual look in the ad breaks during this video? She is just so beautiful. Bailey, thank you for your content. I get in 'trouble' with my kids (13 and 12) if they find out I've watched one of your videos while they were away. So, thank you for educating, not only me, but my adolescent humans, as well.

As a glazier (person who handles and installs glass) ladies please don’t punch a windshield with a diamond ring. A windshield is laminated glass you won’t get through it. Always go for the door glass it’s tempered and will shatter into many little pieces.

My husband was so dead set on buying me a two karat diamond ring but that isn’t what I wanted. I wanted a gray spinel from Le Vian. He kept saying no no no…that was until he came into my job one day, which I was working at a jewelry store at the time, and he saw the ring I loved on my hand and he was sold! I absolutely love my ‘non’traditional ring. It is exactly perfect and I am always getting compliments on it.

I've been married twice and I didn't have an engagement ring either time. I did get one from my current husband after we had been married for about eight years and then the set fell out of it one day when I was grocery shopping and I didn't realize it until I got home. So now the ring is in my wallet with no stone in it. If I ever get a replacement I would like an emerald one.

When I was moving, I was looking for mattresses and got bombarded with ads. Those ads were like 5min long too. I wasn't always within reach of my phone so I wasn't able to skip fast enough once they started. It was terrible 😭 I finally yelled at my phone and repeatedly screamed that I did not need a mattress anymore so I did not need the ads. They stopped. I think the scarier ones are the ones that you never say out loud or even type on google and all of a sudden, you start getting ads.

I use to never even think about ad stalking until I was pregnant with my daughter. We decided on naming her emelia. Then I saw a picture on Facebook with a cute little onesie with a pacifier that had the name “Amelia” in teething beads off of it. Sent a screen shot to my husband saying it was funny. Then we were like “A” or “E” later that day, same picture except it had the name “Emilia” on it, jokingly told my husband “they got so close spelling it this time. They did E.m.i.l.i.a, instead of E.m.e.l.i.a” later that day, same picture except correct spelling. Then I really started believing and noticing the add thing 😂😂😂😂

Our guest bath is decorated with some particularly crazy old ads all from the time our house was built (1926). We have a Lucky Strike ad with an actress saying women in her profession love to smoke and it soothes your throat. Sure it does... My favorite is the old Lysol ad encouraging women to be "immaculate" by douching with Lysol, aka, use it as birth control.
