I would rather let them fail, and let a multitude of smaller companies pick up the remains. They are way too close to a monopoly anyway. The entire movie going public should not suffer just because one company is in financial trouble.

It shouldn't be one company, it should be many smaller ones. That is, if there still is any company left that would take that plunge in this era of social distancing. If anything, they’ll close some of the theaters and have the ones open play more classic films at discounts. Frankly, most theater chains will be in a bad financial state before this ends, but the WORST CASE SCENARIO would be that the studios invest in their own theaters, bringing block-booking back in full-force.

AMC is the biggest movie theatre company in the world. They pay their employees below minimum wage and gave their chief strategist a 500 billion dollar bonus (which could have went towards rent since they aren’t paying their landlords anymore)... When they were shutting the theatres down, we found out through articles on yahoo and was told we weren’t gonna get paid for them closing. We were told to file for partial unemployment because they would still need us whenever they reopened....But I’m glad you customers love A-lists...

I would like to believe studios will bail out the theaters due to a heavy reliance on them but the problem is the studios themselves are already taking massive financial hits and this may not stabilize for years before people as a collective feel safe enough to resume regular theatergoing, and not even factoring in how many people just won't enjoy it as much anymore after abstaining from it for months sheltered at home. It's more likely an entity like Apple will try to purchase them I think.

The future of the movie theaters is that after this is over we will be on the way to living the plot of "Elysium" for real. Movie theaters are SO GREEDY. $13 for a small bag of pop corn. Really??? I feel bad for the private owned movie theaters..

Don't know where you're seeing 13 bucks. Also, as someone who worked at a theater....the higher food prices are so the theater can make money. Movie companys take about 90% of the first week of a movie's ticket sales, after a few weeks it drops down more and more.

Maybe this is an opportunity to have many movie theatre chains instead of the monopoly they have now (which will be effectively destroyed by summer).

Maybe they shouldn't have taken on so much debt. Or had enough in cash reverse to handle issues. The proverbial "couple months of expenses" suggested for the average person.

I don’t think AMC will close, but odds are against them. If it was only them needing help then they would be fine. However, everyone is hurting which is why I don’t think anyone will help them out with their debt. Lot of movies pushed back till next year. Not to mention they will be limiting seating for social distancing and dealing with a high demographic of people without a job. It’s a bad perfect storm for them. It just feels the longer this lockdown goes, the worse it will be.
