Mocking someone because they are fat, isn't helping anyone but acting like it isn't a problem or worse, celebrating it, isn't the solution either. There is something between mockery and celebration. And not everything people say, is meant as mockery. If you really want to help people, you don't do it through mockery or ignoring the problem. If you know what you are talking about, give them proper (and somewhat concrete) advice (someone did that for me, in an honest but in a not-mocking way, it was clear to me that she was just trying to be a good friend, and it really helped me as it brought me where I am today). If you won't be able to do it, it is better that you don't talk about it.

For me, the change came when I lost a part in an acting audition due to not looking the like the character due to my weight. Well, that motivated me like hell and I got in shape, lost a ton of unhealthy fat within months. Years later, I'm still holding to it, even though the binge eating addiction never really left. And also, the way fans treated Lizzo for the 'juice cleanse' thingy reminds me of when someone stops smoking, and all their smoker friends are like: 'Here have a cigarette!', 'Ha! You won't manage to quit!' Having others failing to control a vice/addiction somehow justifies these people's own vices.

It is a bit sad that you lost a part in an audition due to your weight (though I do understand that weight was important for it) but you have all right to be proud of yourself to be able to say: this is the turning point, I lost something I wanted due to this, never again! That takes strength and makes you an example for many. For me, it was more letting go of my ego for a moment and give her advice a chance. Little did either of us know it was the missing ingredient so to speak in my attempts to lose weight. I already had done some alterations to my eating habits and excercises regularly to the point that my actual condition and arm strength likely exceeded what most people would have expected from someone with my body frame. And her advice was actually pretty simple: be careful with soda (regular or diet) and with sugar. The latter was a small adjustment but the former... Oh boy, the difference that made. I had a mental addiction to diet soda (some would call it a habit I thought I couldn't go without, which turns out it was very easy doable but I would call it an addiction) and together with my already good condition (which allowed me to continue to operate on a heavier excercise regime than someone who starts from scratch) and already implemented eating habits, it did miracles. To give you an idea: in October '19, I weighted around 106 kg, currently I am around 75 - 76 kg... And like Isaac also says, it will not only improve your physical state but also your mental state. I'm not one who is used to getting compliments, so I can't help but feel really good about myself the first time someone said to me: "Have you lost weight? You look thinner in your face..." Since then, a few have done it, one more carefully than the other but still, it has become one of the easiest ways to make me smile and feel good about myself. But an issue, I start to see now and I think that might have been the problem with the people in your circle as well: most people don't always realize how severe your problem actually is. Most people who asked me how much I lost, are in disbelief when I do the math in front of them and they hear how heavy I was at the start. Most deemed it impossible that I was "that heavy". Most estimate me at least 10 kg lighter than I actually was... And the smoker's anology is a good one, and I think it mostly comes from the point that those people have given up and their egos not allowing them to see that they might be wrong and that it is possible to get rid of your vices. Because the success of the other proves it can be done but with the effort. Another thinking mistake, which stems from jealousy, is that it shouldn't work because it hasn't work for them. But everyone is different and if one method doesn't work, you shouldn't give up, you should try something else.

I worked in this shit hole that paid health benefits based off of a physical and youR BMI. About 90% of it was off of your BMI. So this is guy that had serious heart issues and was nearly dead would get about $4500 per year for his benefit and this other guy who lifted weights, ran, and was very fit only got about $1500 per year. BMI is only useful in certain circumstances but people try to use it to cover all instances.
