Justin , this album deserves your full attention. It is a masterpiece. Californian ? yes but the dark underbelly of the L.A. counter-culture and its conflict with the conservative American dream. I saw Love here in the UK some 15 years ago. Grown men punching the air and applauding during the trumpet solo , men actually crying , random cheering and applauding throughout the whole show ; it was an incredible experience, unlike any other gig that I have been to.

Every song on Forever Changes is a classic, culminating in the epic You Set the Scene. Btw, Alone Again Or is Bryan McLean’s song and he’s the main vocalist on it, although Arthur Lee apparently kept pushing up his own voice during the mixing, to give a dual-lead effect. 👍

Yes... I just happened upon this, I am from that generation, was fanatic Love aficionado since age 15. I was 17 when Forever Changes appeared. The song Alone Again Or is mindblowing. Also listen to the version by Bryan Maclean solo. He wrote this song. Most Love songs were written by Arthur Lee. Listen to side one of Love Da Capo album. I was in the basement of my parents' house where their old big stereo was, and would lie on the floor with one of the big speaker boxes on either side of my head. That's how I first heard Forever Changes, Fresh Cream, Revolver, Are You Experienced?, etc.

“Forever Changes” by the band Love, is actually my favorite album of the ‘60s decade. Glad you found this one JP, and that you enjoyed it as much as you did!! The guitarist Bryan MacLean who you mentioned wrote that song “Alone Again or” as well as the song “Old Man” for the record. But the entire album in my opinion, is brilliant and without flaw. I’d still love for you to be able to check out the artist Michael Penn, a great place to begin with him is on his debut album “March” (1989) and the first single “No Myth” .. Love your channel, and keep listening to great music!!

Alone Together Or was recorded in the final sessions for the album in September 1967. John Echols, lead guitar player, remembers: “It was a very very rough song when we got into the studio. It was hardly written. Bryan went and wrote some more words after we’d done the instrumental track and after he’d heard what (arranger) David Angel had done with it.” The song was written by Bryan MacLean who also plays the beautiful acoustic guitar intro, influenced by flamenco, the Spanish dance his mother used to dance to in his youth. The guitar is great even for those of us who don't like flamenco guitar guitars. Never had I really liked it before. I love the sound here because I suppose it's muted and more melancholy. Nuance is everything and I'm a nuisance.

As Monty Python would say : ‘And now for something completely different ......’ Ok - 1968 - The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - pretty wild album cover The song is Fire 🔥- nothing sounded like it - hit #1 in the U.K and Canada , #2 in the US ( behind a Beatles song ) Check it out - it’s wild and you’ll never forget it - probably be singing it to yourself for days after

@erikahlander3489
@erikahlander3489 3 жыл бұрын
I liked Fire a lot in the 1960s, today maybe it is a bit outdated, unless you realize that it was first and so influential for decades! So for historical reasons it is a must! It was even more impressive to see the video much later: face painting and fire. In Sweden we celebrate "Lucia" 13 December: young people dressed all white, following the Lucia who has candles in her hair, singing Christmas carols. In Swedish Radio Arthur Brown was called "The Lucia of the pop world"... Quite recently I have understood that Arthur Brown was more of an art preformer making a short visit to the rock and pop world.

So pleased you got around to listening to Love, one of my favourite bands. They were label mates with The Doors, unfortunately Arthur Lee’s reluctance to touring meant they never achieved the same success. The album appears on just about any list of the greatest albums and was actually mentioned in the British Houses of Parliament as such. This track is not really typical of their style, they were more of a rock band. My favourite song on the album is A House Is Not A Motel, which includes the prophetic line “The news today will be the movies for tomorrow”. In fact the whole album was a prediction of how the summer of love

This song was Brian and Arthur's stance again free love movement on the 60s. They wanted a more traditional relationship with their women so the lyrics here are from their perspective, hence "Yeah, I heard a funny thing" as the person saying they could be in love with almost everyone is a free love person they don't agree with.

Nice left turn. Great little Sunday tune. Sunday love is a great love. The song reminds me of tale of the two Sylvias. Back in the ancient days of the 80s, I dated two Sylvias at separate times but I confused my friends, so I had to go with Sylvia 1 and Sylvia 2. Non brilliant, I know. Reason for this story, they both like to go out and leave me waiting. Well, I did go out too. Sylvia 1 called me one morning and asked to be picked up after a night of partying with the Ohio Players. Yes, those Ohio Players. Apparently she had seen them in concert. I said no way. She gave me an ultimatum, pick her up or we were done. So, Sylvia 2, same thing, she was out a lot. Having been though it before I just kind of stopped see her after awhile, it was hard though. I really liked her. Later she hooked up with my best friend... So, anyway this song and By the Time I Get To Phoenixes by Glen Campbell and Isaac Hayes are like diary songs. That’s life. I’m going to go cry now. Just kidding... some, time heals. Take care everyone, masks are your friends, Peace, Love and Music

Paul-Martin Scheib Thx Paul, I was thinking I may have rambled too much... still do. I could have simply said I had gone trough what the song portrayed but I didn’t. Thx for reliving those exciting yet frustrating times.

Love is one of my all-time favorite bands and their album Forever Changes is a masterpiece and among my top five albums. (Note: Rolling Stone has it #40 on their list of the top 500 albums of all time.) I was particularly interested in how you'd react to both the flamenco guitar playing and the horns and I was glad to see your appreciation. Honestly I still get goosebumps listening to this song. If you haven't listened to the full album yet, I strongly encourage it. The band is awesome, particularly Johnny Echols on lead guitar, and Arthur Lee's lyrics and vocalization are both enchanting and bizarre.

All true but Rolling Stone is a joke. Their ratings are almost all musical politics.

There's an excellent two part documentary doing the rounds on sky at the moment about Laurel canyon , the transition of folk music into hippie singer songwriter explosion in the 60's and the talent that was attracted to the reasonably cheap but beautiful and bohemian Laurel canyon. Love feature along with the Doors CSN&Y Joni Mitchell Buffalo Springfield and the Byrds. It's wonderful.

Is this Echo In The Canyon? If so, it’s also available on Amazon Prime (for a rental fee).

It's been almost two years since this video. Ain't it about time to go to the next song on the album? You also need to continue on The Zombies' 'Odessey And Oracle'. Two classic psychedelic albums that deserve your attention.
