Hi everyone, Welcome to this channel. My name is Vasil and I am not living on my 1974 Columbia 45 Sailboat while I restore it. In this episode I am moving onto the boat and organizing my living space. I'm also removing the an old toilet and replacing it with a camping toilet. This is part 1 of moving on to this boat, stay tuned for more move in videos.
Thank you for watching!

New to your channel and looking forward to the boat transformation. I'm familiar with the Columbia 45, what I like is the big stateroom and the galley and seating below. You have some daunting tasks ahead, however it's your home and worth the effort. I lived aboard for 6 years and loved it, yes it's challenging but everyday was an adventure. By the way, I changed my head to the compost type and it worked great.

Bob welcome to the channel, its good to have you! This Columbia really is a big live-aboard boat, tons of potential here. So many daunting tasks ahead. What was your original toilet?

@@ambiguousglobetrotter The toilet was an old Raritan Superflush. The issue I had was the backing up, the holding tank and eventual smells. The thru-hull, seacock and all of the hoses needed replacing as well toilet rebuild, not a fun job.

@@mattyg499 I went with the Sun Mar GTG, it works, however it's overpriced IMO. There are design problems I don't care for. If you're an infrequent boater this works well, liveaboard NO. If you're a liveaboard or spend a lot of time on your boat, I would upgrade to a Thinktank or Natures Head. What I do like about the system is the simplicity, as well no clogs, no pump outs, no tank chemicals or smells. For me the cost and time of replacing the old head, hoses, vents, seacocks was worth it.

i suggers you to watch "How to Make High Performance Sound Absorption Panels for $5", its cheap and it will help with echo, also it will probably make boat more cosy my dad had almost same toile on his boat, good choice.
@ambiguousglobetrotter
@ambiguousglobetrotter Жыл бұрын
Good idea on those panels, this boat will need a good amount of insulation. Any thoughts on "phase change" insulation? Seems like it would be a great option for temperature control inside the boat, so long as it doesn't add a ton of weight. I think your father made a good choice with that toilet, will report the findings after a couple of uses, lol.

Your OCD is definitely not going to like it when all those shoes end up on your bed! Haha. When you sail, everything will fall out of place. Netting is a good idea for putting in front of anything that will fall out when you're heeling.
@ambiguousglobetrotter
@ambiguousglobetrotter Жыл бұрын
Haha, ain't that a true statement! Many, many systems need to be built and optimized to keep things in place. Things fall over all the time, and I haven't even been sailing yet.

I cant imagine how difficult all of that must be logistically speaking. As I said earlier, I am redoing my boat that is sitting at a dock and its pretty damned challenging at times. What brand of toilet did you get and are you still happy with it? What would you do differently? I am looking at one for my boat and a good review helps. Your comment about the size is helpful as I am 6'3" and about 250 lbs. Another great video!

Marty, I will keep you posted on how this toilet is after I've "spent" some time using it. Here is the link: a.co/d/5I2N2rM Being on the mooring ball is VERY challenging, the logistics are a nightmare! There's a couple of big things that need to be moved onto the boat, and I am still wrapping my head around how the heck that's going to happen from a dinghy. What would I do differenlty? Hmmm... that's a very good question. Let me think about that, perhaps thats a good topic for a whole video. Good luck with you project, let me know how it's progressing.

Congrats, I've enjoyed the adventure so far. The logistics of moving large items off/on - is it possible to tie up periodically to a pier / slip for those bulky and/or heavy items?
@ambiguousglobetrotter
@ambiguousglobetrotter Жыл бұрын
Carl, that was my original plan. Take the boat to a dock and unload all the heavy stuff. Seems like that trips keeps getting pushed back because things keep breaking, and several systems still need servicing. In the meantime, I just want to get this boat cleaned out as much as I can. Plus it does help having other options, so experimenting with dinghies broadens my experience. Thank you for the kind words.

@@ambiguousglobetrotter it is clipping quite hard. Especially noticable in the first part of the video where you do the intro talk. if you listen with headphones you notice it as a crackle over your voice. I'd start with checking the gain settings on what ever it is you're recording into. Something in the audio-chain is feeding a signal that is too strong. This makes the peaks distort. It is a good rule of thumb to leave about 1/3 headroom in every step of the chain and then adjust the level in post.

Haha! The pewpews are being limited at the moment to the bare essentials needed to keep the pirates at bay. The rest of the pewpews will stay off the boat until I’m 100% certain this thing is going to float indefinitely. I also need to figure out the pewpews laws for the places o would like to travel.
