Noel Maginnity is a retired Broadcasting Engineer and has been a personal friend for many decades. He was instrumental in helping me build my first Amateur Radio RF amplifier which worked exceptionally well over many decades. In the early 1980's he also introduced me to modelling railways and stereo sound recording the real ones. That led me on into train video as well. Noel made a limited number of railway stereo recordings of which we have made up three here on my YT channel, these have come from his three DVD's made some time ago. This first recording was set onboard a SOL train (details below).
This track begins with the audio as loud as it gets anywhere on the recording. This is a good time to set your stereo volume to LOUD. The profile graphics made by Noel Maginnity.
Train 532 (1983) leaves Taumarunui after midnight and heads to New Plymouth via the Stratford - Okahukura Line (SOL). Train 533 is the working in the opposite direction. A sound recording of a small portion of each of these train trips was made on Wednesday morning, November 9, 1983. The SOL is nearly 144km long, it has 24 tunnels, it has almost no level parts, and it has many, many tight curves.
Special thanks to John Bovis for the use of his 1976 photo at Okahukura. This is obviously not of the recorded trains but is typical of goods trains of that era in daylight......
PLEASE dont play on a cellfone speaker, it deserves the real thing....... so good headphones, or a good quality stereo amp and speakers, or maybe bluetooth to a boom box.......
