I made my first every Jell-o mold!
This video is part of a collaboration with Mike over at Maikoh. We each chose a recipe from the 1963 classic cookbook, Joys of Jell-o.
Please be sure to visit Mike's channel and check out his video: • Trying Out a 60s Jell-...

ORANGE FROST
1 - 3oz package orange Jell-O
1c boiling water
1 pint orange sherbet
Dissolve Jell-O in boiling water. Add the sherbet by spoonfuls, stirring until melted. Then, beat with an electric mixer until frothy. Spoon into sherbet glasses or an oiled 1-quart gelatin mold. Chill until firm. Garnish with whipped cream if desired.

I enjoy your surprise when a Vintage method works! Of course it will/does, it’s been working for many years and some of us still confidently use them, Grandma was an excellent cook.

Loved how surprised (SHOCKED?) u were that this came out and held. I am the same vintage as this cookbook and remember it well. We used (probably bpa containing) plastic moulds made by Tupperware for our jelly moulds. I have never greased a jello mould. We did use the hot water dip method and in the 80's Tupperware sold a mould where the bottom pc had different shapes that could be swapped out. This also allowed u to see if ur jelly had released and if required u could gently lift the bottom and allow a little air in. I wish I still had that set, but alas when BPA became a known danger they all went to garbage. Only thing copper was used for was decor in the 70s to 90s. Now I am again buying new pcs to cook with. Thank u for ur fun videos.

It held up just long enough to be beautiful for pictures, and that's all that matters. Wonderfully done Anna! You totally pulled it off! With all that frothing, I'm not surprised it was basically like putting a tasty, empty spoon in your mouth. And that hand mixer of Maikoh's... I've always been surprised you didn't have one. Yet again, you've chosen from a recipe book my mother had in the '70s. She had a vast collection of cookbooks which has always amused me as she worked all day and wasn't really interested in cooking when she got home. I'd love to ask if she still has it but unfortunately, she doesn't remember who I am much less what she did with her cookbooks.

I'm sorry that your mother has dementia. I hope you'll find her old cookbooks someday. I collect old cookbooks and love to just read the recipes. It's like when you used to look through catalogues, thinking, "Oh, that looks nice!" Maybe putting a little mark beside it, but very rarely buying anything. Come to think of it, it's like window shopping!

I'd add an envelope of Knox gelatin. That would firm it up and improve the texture a lot. Jello is a lot thinner and weaker than Knox is and a lot of Jello mold recipes I've seen say to use it in addition to the Jello.
@brockreynolds870
@brockreynolds870 10 ай бұрын
The reason your mold disentegrated so quickly is because Sherbet today is made with a bunch of gums that are supposed to "stabilize" it, when back then, sherbet didn't have all those additives.This seems like a variation of "milk jello" that I make... it gets made in a blender, and VERY frothy... then it keeps it's air bubbles when it sets, and they kind of explode in your mouth.

Came out great !!! I just realized I have never made a jello mold. I think it’s because my mom made so many of them when we were little. My mom went crazy with all kinds of pretty molds and putting fruit in them. Though I guess I made the layered colored ones in a cup when my kids were little because they wanted to try it. This was so fun to watch. Hope you have a great weekend.

LOL the SHHHHHH at the begin😆ning Oooh, a Jell-O mold!! Love the smell of moistened Jell-O mix 😂😂😂 The lemon jello was awesome, it got me thinking of Froot Loops 😂 I was actually looking at some of those frothy Jell-o recipes, did you see that picture of the rainbow cake on page 4? 😆 Was thinking of doing that one, multiple layers of this frothy Jell-O... Looked like too much work haha! Trying to get Jell-O out of a mold is always such a pain lol.. I feel like you had a very similar experience to what I had, it came out looking decent (yours definitely looked better straight out of the mold than mine did lol) and then it just totally started breaking apart haha.. I also think it has something to do with the proportions.. There was like double the amount of (liquidy) whipped topping to the Jell-O for my filling and it was just kinda mushy lol. I had high hopes and maybe I'll try it again another time.. following a different recipe haha. Love the vibrant orange color too, it looks like it'd be an awesome dessert if it held together lol! Such a fun collaboration, let's do it again sometime! 🤗🤗
