In order to quiet your critical voice you have to listen to it. Use this inner critic meditation as a kind and compassionate way to understand your inner critic.
We all have an inner voice in our head. It can guide us and soothe us, but there is also a critical inner voice that will chastise us for doing something wrong.
Many self-help videos will tell you to ignore that critical voice and everything will be OK. But it’s not that simple. Your inner voice is part of you, whether it’s criticizing you or being kind.
If you have a child who’s being naughty, when you ignore them or raise your voice, it can often ramp up their behavior. They become louder and more disruptive. But if you get to their level and really listen to them and meet them with kindness. It has a much better impact on changing their behavior.
So I’m not telling you to ignore your inner critic … I want you to listen to it. Understand why it’s saying these mean things to you.
We can only really be kind and compassionate to ourselves if we extend this kindness to the voice of our inner critic.
So in this short self compassion meditation, the idea is to listen to your self-critical voice, and listen to the part of you that receives that criticism and hold space for both of them.
