Hope you guys aren't sick of these plane crash episode reactions!! I'm almost done with them, I promise. Season 9 Episode 1 is next. After that, should I do the mass shooting episode (S6E24) or the inoperable spine tumor episode (S6E7)?? Let me know below! Thanks for watching.

The surge is a very real thing. My mom battled cancer for 10 years. Towards her last month of life she had slowly started deteriorating to the point where she could no longer walk, talk or really eat. 3 days before she died she was awake, alert and able to do things on her own. She had spoken with so much clarity, she told us she was at peace with the demons in her past. After the day ended she went back to sleeping all day, until the point of her death. Long story short the surge is a thing I’ve seen it with my own eyes

I'm an OR Supply Chain Tech and it wasn't until this video that I knew what an I&D was. I pull supplies for them all the time, but no one ever tells us what the surgeries are for and we often have to learn outside of work (which I feel like during training we should be allowed to watch a case to see how important it is to have the supplies needed in stock)

Doc, they mentioned in the show that they were lost for a week before they found them. Since i saw that episode, i'm still wondering how did they survived for that long. Specially sloan with that hole near his heart. Im no doctor but survival seems impossible for sloan, arizona and probably even derek with those injuries. And i was really hoping you mentioned that in one of the 3 parts. But no cigar.

My mom talks about something like this in Alzheimer’s/dementia patients. She used to be a caregiver and she would say that she knew when people were going to die because they would have sudden clarity that they wouldn’t have before. Their personality may also change back to what it was before the disease

This happened to my uncle. Lost the battle to gastric cancer. Lost a lot of weight which somehow made his voice sound a wee different. When the surge happened, he talked to my mom, his sister, and she told him that he sounded like his old self again (thinking that he was getting better). He passed away the next day :(

If you can it'd be great to see a reaction to UK series "24 hours in A&E" which is set in a real ED in England. Usually with the focus on three different patients per episode, all of which were treated in one 24 hour period (and there is almost always one major trauma each episode) 🙂 would be interesting to see what you identify as different in an English hospital! Love your videos! 😊❤️

i just love how calm you are while reviewing these shows, while also not being cold and understanding the emotional value these episodes have both for people watching and in the characters' actions. i think you could like the show honestly even not as a show you 'must' watch to review, because it is actually entertaining and, at least in my opinion, it helps releasing the tension and the stress i experience in my life. idk, hope anyway to see another one soon ✨

Hey so this episode isn’t really a popular suggestion that I see, so I thought maybe you could react to season 12 episode 18 where Ben has no other choice but to do a C-section in a hallway with extremely limited resources (or does he...?🙃). Basically it doesn’t go as planned, and it has a HUGE twist, like I’m talking HUGEEEEE twist...it might be a 2 part thing, but from what I remember the first part (if there is actually 2 parts to it) is called “there’s a fine, fine line”. Also I love how you give explanations as to what each medical term is, so that we can understand it, I also like the fact that you don’t just sit there and bash the show like other people, you actually give it a chance 😂❤️.

Odd question strike again! I know that Dr Callie "promised" Arizona that she'll save her leg .. which at the end she just said, cut it off. In real life, from what I understand is Callie is the next of kin of Arizona, but also her main treating doctor, so I would say this wouldn't happen. Can a patient sue a doctor for breaking the promise of "saving the leg" when it didn't happen? Random thoughts 😅

Great educational content as usual, I really feel like I learn something from you every time. The diagrams and putting things like terminal lucidity or the amputation discussion into context is what makes this a great channel. I have just a minor criticism: The intro is rather lengthy and asking for sub+likes at the beginning and end is overkill, when you content is so good, people should be doing that without you asking :)

Very informative, as usual! If I could humbly suggest an episode of House MD. This reminded me of the episode where they have a similar debate as to whether to amputate a leg (against the patient’s wishes) or attempt a surgical debridement to treat the after effects of a major infarction in the limb. I’ve always wondered about the realism of the decision making. It’s season 1, episode 21, “Three Stories”. Oh and spoiler, the patient is House :)

Hi Dr Dan! Loving the react videos .. I definitely even prefer you to Dr Mike! I had a random question that is not related to the video but I thought might make an interesting topic for a future video? We learned about Spina Bifida this week but (as vet students) the general recommendation is euthanasia. I understand that it is not uncommon to see this in human babies and I wonder if this is something you would see and operate on? If so I would be very interested to see a video talking about this and possible treatment protocol... perhaps combined with other congenital abnormalities?

Thank you for the video. But still I don’t understand why Callie is the surgeon for Arizona’s case...family members are not legally allowed to interfere. And also I don’t understand why Alex is the one who is monitoring Arizona’s condition!? I thought he is a pediatric fellow at this time and running Arizona’s service (which is another odd aspect, as there might be other pediatric surgery attendings doing so not fellows!).

I dont know why i have a sudden interest in Medicine lol. But i always wondered if these medical shows have any reality. My husband is a Doctor too he says most of it is exaggerated. You explain everything so well. Love watching ur videos.

about the so called surge here is what happens What Is an End-of-Life Rally? When a person facing the end of life “rallies,” they become more stable and may want to talk or even begin eating and drinking again. This period of perking up can be accompanied by such a notable change in cognition that hospice professionals have coined the term “terminal lucidity” to describe it. This change in behavior goes against everything families learn about the physical signs that the end of life is near. We grasp at what seems to be a turnaround in our loved one’s health and sigh with relief. It appears as if they are going to hang on for a while, right? Sadly, rallying is usually a sign that death is near. I have known many hospice aides, nurses and doctors who have seen their patients rally shortly before dying. Some patients want to talk, and some become restless and act as if they need to start preparing for a trip. Others will simply become more relaxed yet remain tuned in to what is going on around them. Still others will show signs of physical stability when, seconds before, they seemed on the verge of letting go. A rally can last for a few moments or even days. Short or long, these temporary “improvements” can have a profound effect on loved ones keeping vigil.

Advanced directive hits me hard. I am only 20 but I am having to consider it because of all of my chronic illnesses. so far, I’m OK, but considering all of the medication‘s I am on and all of the hospitalization visits, it’s some thing I need to consider

What a journey! I remember everything like yesterday. This broken promise destroy Arizona and Callie marriage (Callie is also the mother of Sofia, Dr. Sloane's daughter). I remember a shower scene, with Arizona and Callie screaming at each other that always breaks my heart. Dr. Dan you're the best! Thank you for your interesting videos! I think you should do: Grey's S6E24-25 (mass shooting); E.R. (best medical show ever) S9e21 "When Night Meets Day", S8E22 "Lockdown"- S9E01 "Chaos Theory" (very current), S10E08 "Freefall" ;)

Something I noticed or realized while watching this video, Arizona Robbins had an open femur fracture, in the thigh. That's the upper leg that was infected and nasty and threatening her life. But she just got a below the knee amputation? I'm confused? Or did they clean out the infection after the amputation? Because if the thigh was infected, wouldn't they need to amputate from the hip?

It was not below the knee. It was above the knee. You can check it in the following episodes where she gets a prosthesis.
