Welcome to another Doctor Reacts video. Another good one from Season 5! What's with this drama between Christina and Dr Hunt? Can someone explain? I do a deep dive on critical patients who have sustained multiple injuries: polytraumas. We discuss orthopaedic surgery treatments (my favorite!) including external fixation vs internal fixation, how medical education is incorporating virtual reality and/or augmented reality, what causes elevated intracranial pressure, and many other things that always make medicine so interesting.
Why do I love doing these Doctor Reacts videos? I've really been inspired by Doctor Mike who does incredible teaching in his doctor reaction videos. I've also been inspired by reaction videos from Dr Kristina Braly and Doctor Mama Jones and Dr Rena Malik. This is a great method for teaching various medical topics and I think I'm starting to get hooked on these medical dramas!

Please review the HIV episode where Miranda removes HIV strain from the HIV virus and gives it to the "bubble boy" to help build his immune system. Season 10, episodes 22-23. 22 is the episode she gives him the deactivated HIV virus and 23 is the repercussions of her doing that. Also same season episode 18 shows a family that has three children have cardiomyopathy and they appear until episode 23. My questions: can what Miranda did really happen? Regarding the McNell Family, can that also really happen? I'm really interested in seeing your review (please,please,please), I've been watching GA since episode 1 first aired.

The one episode of Grey's that I think would be great to react to is Season 6 Episode 6, "I Saw What I Saw." It's SUPER light on drama and is written more like a murder mystery than a typical medical drama show.There's a fire at a motel and a woman who appears fine ends up dead. The residents are all questioned by Webber and the legal team in order to figure out how she died and who's responsible.

The part with the interns practicing on themselves went wayyyyy too far later on. They started by doing IVs on themselves which is whatever, but then they started practicing sutures on themselves then epidurals and catheters, and then to the point where they did an appendectomy unsupervised. So yeah they went wayyy to far with it

i’m so glad that you a) actually reacted to the clips, like you allowed yourself to laugh and watch the show b) gave a good score for realism and didn’t nitpick every single detail in the show. i love seeing that at least you enjoyed the show a little and didn’t immediately go “this is so unrealistic and stupid i hate it” (even if the overall entertainment score was 5/10 lol)

I wish you could've given a speech to the ER doc I saw when I was having real issue and he, in a very dismissive tone and attitude, told me I was only constipated, which I was not. He should've had a lesson on a patient having a story and that I am a real person.

heyyyy! you should do greys anatomy 6x06. it’s my favorite episode, is about a mistake that escalated, and because the pit was so full the patient wasn’t assigned to anyone and that led to her death. is brilliantly shot and very well written. in my opinion is the best greys anatomy episode.

the xrays you added were so cool! the nonfractured vs fractured was really interesting to see, especially bc I’ve never broken a bone (thankfully!) so I’ve never gotten a chance to see an X-ray of one up close lol. my dad broke his pinky a couple years ago and I asked to see the X-ray but he was so out of it before the surgery he only remembered to take a pic of the X-ray post op with the pins sticking out, but it was to see still cool to see! your explanation of the fixations made a lot of sense as to why we could see the pins (they just looked like metal sticks idk if pin is the right term) sticking out of his finger. very interesting!

Did you ever notice that they don't use sharps on the show? I don't know if I've ever really seen many/any on the show but I know after using needles, they DON'T put them in sharps.

A Korean medical drama called 'Hospital Playlist' just ended and it's been highly praised by doctors!! Apparently it's very, very detailed. I watched it and it was just all around awesome and wholesome. I hope you could react to it! (It's on Netflix)

But is it entertaining? I mean Greys is not super realistic. But it's entertaining is hell. Well it used to be.

@@Mini-Toast_ i thought it was very entertaining!! The 5 main characters are also part of a band (which they revived from med school) so that's new. A lot of korean doctors have reacted to it in yt and have focused on the patients & how realistic the surgeries/procedures are. It would be nice to see the contrast between american and korean medicine from dr. dan!

In pharmacy school we actually practice giving each other immunizations and testing blood glucose as well! I think there is a lot of merit to practicing on actual people, as long and the students are supervised and doing it safely.

I think they make the characters jump from one specialty to another just to keep the plots interesting. This show has been going on for so long they may run out of 'only general surgery' storylines

Good evening from SA! New fan here :) I'm just curious regarding residency... you said that general surgery residents don't work in speciality fields like cardiothoracic or urology so what do they actually do?
@DoctorDan
@DoctorDan 4 жыл бұрын
General surgery is typically mostly abdominal surgeries like gallbladder removals and appendectomies. Gen surg residents also do fellowships on specialties like cardiothoracic and endocrine to operate on other parts of body

“Human connection is the most important thing” true that Doctor Dan! Last year I went through surgery. My first ever and I was super scared and nervous. After I was brought to the pre-op room and after they got me ready my doctor came in, said hi and she gave me a heartfelt hug. That meant the world to me! It gave me reassurance that they were taking good care of me

My sister had a crushed pelvic bone in a car accident. It was indeed devastating for her for months. Afterward I think she was told that she couldn’t have a vaginal birth for future children, and she did have c-sections on both her kids.
