With SAW X right around the corner, hitting theatres this September, I figured it was time I revisit all 9 SAW movies and review them over the coming weeks in anticipation. SAW is very special to me, it has a very special place in my heart, without SAW I probably wouldn't be here talking movies on KZfaq with all of you. So lets continue from where we left off with SAW VI (2009), 14 Years Later!

Finding out that Amanda was blackmailed kind of redeemed her as an Apprentice in my eyes. I was really disappointed when she chose to shoot Lynn because there was always a chance John could have forgiven her. Amanda was being tested at the time anyway so showing John the letter and revealing the truth may have worked in her favour. That being said it was a high pressure situation and she was already emotional so logic flew out the window hahaha

Always loved the point IMS made about this movie: Jigsaw says everyone always has a chance, if they cherish life and such, so, like... what if the janitor REALLY cherished his life, so much that he beat William Easton in the first trap. Movie would've been really weird then. And yes, if we get any returning characters in future movies, it should be Simone from the Pound of Flesh. She was great in this, great in Saw VII, and I dunno, I just really like the idea of someone who went through this process and *didn't* become an overnight Jigsaw convert, and who is just plain pissed off.

Having seen Saw VI in theaters opening night, I can tell you that the moment Jill pulled out the Reverse Bear Trap, the crowd went absolutely WILD!!! Everyone was screaming and cheering!! It was amazing! Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one who sensed the insane sexual tension between Hoffman and Amanda! Just look at the way she looks at him when she's teasing him about when his test is. Dayum! Need some fan fiction of those two, this is essential! Now, I have a theory about Saw VI that no one ever talks about, but adds to Williams game. What would happen if he didn't make it to the end in time, even if he removed his explosive straps? I believe, with the context given in the tapes, Pamela would've died from the acid. It would explain the acid dripping from the sprinklers in her room, and it also explains the final tape where Jigsaw claims Bobby made the sacrifices to "save" his family.

After not being impressed with Saw V, Saw VI surprised me not just with how enjoyable it was with its traps, but the story as well. It's interesting how Saw VI is indeed more political, but doesn't shove it in your face and still tells a good story as a Saw movie. I do wish the whole end montage of characters closing doors had been saved for Saw VII, though. Would've fit more for, at the time, the final film- for the second time.

So true about Easton: "It's a business, its not supposed to be this way" (paraphrase). First thing he says (i think) with the carousel trap. So true about him. He wouldn't change. I could see him being another Bobby Dagan.

What I like so much about Saw 6 is how confined the game is. When William tries to skip the gallows trap and his wrist bomb starts beeping, he knows he has no choice but to go through another terrible situation. He’s being forced to experience what he’s doing to other people in person, the same he’s doing in business. It’s done in such a demented way, but I think William finally learns his lesson when he has to personally experience the life and death consequences his policy has.

I think William would have been redeemed by the end of it. I doubt he'd continue his work after watching people actually die at his hands. If I was him... well, I'd probably rather not continue living afterwards, but I definitely would have just liquidated that whole ass company if possible.... probably burn the whole building down for extra measure.

One of the things i wonder about this movie and what happens after it ends, what happened to the kid? Cause hes a full fledged murderer now. Hes going to jail. He had to watch the guy suffer through all these traps, and then, with tbe man's sister watching him, subjected him to the most painful death in the series. No way he isnt ending up in jail for life.

This might be strange, but I feel like it would’ve been better if William played the game without learning the lesson. He should’ve let the old lady die. By all metrics, it’s an arbitrary decision, but the young guy had more potential and should’ve lived. This isn’t about life insurance, these are real people’s lives. As for the ending, repentance is a personal thing, and the only thing that matters is what other people think. Whether or not he was truly sorry, his life was in their hands and he needed to play his cards right, so to speak. I don’t think that it would’ve been a particularly good idea for him to even imply that he was okay with them choosing to kill him. His plan worked on the mother, but not on the son, and that’s his greatest failure. At the end of the day, the son’s a murderer, his dad’s still dead and the company will continue to do what it’s always done. Nobody actually wins here (excerpt the old lady and the carousel survivors).

I REALLY like the connection you made with saw being its finest when its political. I agree...it makes perfect sense. For years we've had serial killers who just kill, paranormal, and sick people that were wronged. But HOW INTERESTING to have a villian (serial killer) who attacks society, its institutions and norms to such an extent that he intends to create a legion of people that reshape it. Its brilliant and exactly what the original saw was at its core (debatable sure). I love this.

I think the best Saws were the ones where the victims had control and we got to know them more ... Saw 1, 2, 7, Jigsaw. Saw 3 started this stupid trend where 1 person goes around trying to rescue random people.

I highly doubt we will see Amanda and Hoffman interacting knowing this is between 1 & 2 That and the only way i can see Hoffman using the line he does and make sense is that he is years later talking to a survivor of John's game in Saw X (my guess is Mattheo) while still in hiding. Theres no way hed be aware of John himself between 1 & 2 so it *has* to be after its all said and done
@juneyb94
@juneyb94 10 ай бұрын
That’s what I was thinking. I don’t think Hoffman was saying that at the beginning or middle of the movie. It does sound like it’s AFTER the movie and we see the movie fast forward. Maybe Hoffman is talking to one of the survivors but because of what he did he obviously isn’t on the police force anymore and people might think that he just went missing when in reality he is in hiding.

Understand this… John Kramer recruited every single of the four known apprentices by the timeframe of Saw X. He recruited Logan first. Logan’s test (the Barn Game) was after Cecil’s test, but before Hoffman killed Seth. Hoffman was recruited second, after he killed Seth, which was before Amanda was tested. Amanda was recruited third, after her test, which was 5 months before Saw 1. Lawrence was recruited fourth, after his test, just after Saw 1. As Saw X is set after Saw 1 but before Saw 2, that means it makes complete sense for both Amanda and Hoffman to be working together on the main game of Saw X. Your point about that line could be from a different point in time, but given what we were shown in Saw 6 about Amanda and Hoffman’s rivalry, we could potentially see how it started. The other major reason Hoffman could be helping set up Saw X’s game is that Saw 5’s flashbacks set during Saw 2 still showed John training Hoffman. That means in Saw X he was training both Amanda and Hoffman, both to different degrees due to the timing of their recruitment. Also, it was revealed that Hoffman wasn’t exactly too keen on John’s methods during the events of Saw 1 (as Saw 5 shows with the set up of Paul’s test) and seems nervous about what he’d doing, yet by the events of Saw 2, he’s way more relaxed and sure (as Saw 5 shows with the set up of the Nerve Gas House). This means he by then spent time under John’s wing, which slowly turned him into a willing apprentice. Saw X could provide some of that context for him if he were involved in the main game since it is set before Saw 2. Point is there is plenty of reason for him to be involved in Saw X’s main game.

@@darthmeticulous6901his nervousness may be to do with the fact that Hoffman was, at first, a hostage apprentice. John was holding the Baxter secret over his head to make him stay, originally.

I’ve always appreciated that people die in order for the test to be a success. It furthers the story in a positive way without loosing out on the trap spring. Movies like 7-9 just present a person in a trap and no matter what they die.

The five month gap is between Amanda’s test and Saw 1, Lawrence literally specificies that in the first film. Not sure where you can up with it being 5 months between Saw 1 and Saw 2, I do not recall a single line in Saw 2 that said how many months had passed. The only other gap that’s mentioned besides the 10-year gap from Saw 3 to Jigsaw, is the six month gap from Saw 2 and Saw 3/Saw 4.

If you ask me, you should have had Dr Gordon sprinkled in the SAW franchise from 2-7 where he’s a firm believer that Jigsaw is bad, and then at 7 it’s revealed that he is an apprentice. Then he and Hoffman could battle it out The “I don’t think so” twist is so expected and bad that it makes the movie so ridiculous for me.

Saw 6 should have ended the franchise with Hoffman’s death and Gill being successful in baring out John’s final plan. That would have been the perfect ending the the second trilogy and they still could have made Jigsaw, Spiral and Saw X. As much as there are a lot of things to like about 6, its setup and payoff is completely ruined with that ending. And judging by how shit Saw 7 was, I am completely right.

Saw V is an improvement over Saw IV. And Saw VI is an improvement over Saw V. During these three films, the quality gets better and better, and with Saw VI, the "Hoffman era" of the Saw films reaches its peak...but then, Saw 3D ruins it with a very uninspired, weak, tasteless and almost parodic conclusion...
