You shall be able to bring down some nice ships using Manual Torpedo Firing in Silent Hunter 5 and make it more interesting to play.
Unfotunatley the Stock Game has many key features missing which makes it impossible to play it at 100% Realism.
Im going to give it ago with the MODS and see if I can get back SH3 and SH4 features like Sound Man Reporting, Watch Officer Reporting, Stadimeter working etc etc
Than I shall post new video Tutorial with 100% Realism
But for now..If you dont want to MOD your game enjoy this video.
Later I shall post a video too regarding Modding My SH5 including tutorial how to MOD your game.

Spent ages trying to figure out how the game wanted you to set up TDC in SH5. Read loads of workarounds, videos etc... Finally after an age figured most of it out myself by trial n error apart from how to switch the recognition manual pages. Then today found your video which has it all in there DOH. Thanks for posting

Thanks for this tutorial and especially that you did it without hitting th pause button, others hit the pause button and start drawing for half an hour your tutorial explains how we can do it under the STRESS of the hunt and with a TICKING CLOCK :) much more realistic and real!

Just wanted to say that from my few tera music collection i listen to the very same Movement tracks from Vangelis while cruising in subs or piloting capital ships in few other games. From all the opera and classical music iv heard so far this Movement by Vangelis is definitely best suited. Good job UBOATss mate :)

So the vanilla Stadimeter is broken. Well that explains a lot of misses. I no longer feel cheaty using the ruler to get a range. Didnt think of drawing a line and using the protractor at "enemy firing position" to get Angle on Bow. Good technique. Got the game finally on a steam sale. Enjoyed alot of the sims and for a while play groups. Left SH5 alone for various reasons until now

I don't get the way you guess AoB, you set a point at a certain distance, but how do you know the distance between that point and the angle?

I see the same reactions on SH5 as on SH3 in the first year it was released from people not being aware of the awesome mods there are out there or being made. For every issue currently in SH5 there is mod, or one in progress. The only thing that is still needed is a supermod like Grey Wolves for SH5. So people don't have to install 20 individual mods to make SH5 a good subsim.

How do you get the ships to show up on your tactical view? For some reason, even when I lock my ships nothing shows up :S, so I never know what the velocity is. Personally, I find the manual better than the automatic TDC. But one thing I'd like more clarification on is, what's the off-bore range? I mean, I've targeted and fired on ships 30 degrees off base from me and the torpedo successfully hit; what's the limit to that, 60 degrees?

@bonde92 : to find the AOB drag a line from the front to the rear of the target towards your submarine. As in the video, I chose a spot in front of the target were range and AOB were pre calculated, once the target passes the chosen spot , fire

Let me help: Using protractor, CLICK in front of target ship along its heading Now stretch protractor line over to the center of the target ship and CLICK Now stretch protractor line over to the center of your submarine and CLICK The angle read is the AOB (angle on the bow) Relative to the target ship, if your submarine is to it's left, then set AOB as a Port angle Relative to the target ship, if your submarine is to it's right, then set AOB as a Starboard angle See image representation of AOB in link below: www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2676694#post2676694

Thanks to this tutorial i managed to get a hang of manual TDC in SH5 but i have one slight problem and i think you can help me. How can you exactly know when to fire a torpedo,example: I have a merchant moving at N course, i will put myself at 90 degrees angle (NW course) at 1000 meters and lets pretend i dont want to shoot at 90 degrees AOB but 80 degrees i put all that in TDC and map,how can i know when to shoot, and what should i put in bearing? Should i put manual bearing or from periscope?

QUESTION - Does where your periscope is looking affect the torpedos trajectory? Because you sent off 3 with the same solution but still managed to spread them out??? it's annoying you can't manually tweak the solutions...

So I have a question. I see that you start by making a calculation, wich puts you on a 90' angle on the ship at the point of impact. Next you draw a line that is 3300 meters from the ships course, to your point of firing and then you enter the 71' AOB. Now, my question is, how do you know that you need to fire when the ship passes the 3300m mark and that the torpedo will impact at the 90' mark? Have you made calculations that, when the ship is traveling at 4 "knots" and the torpedo at 44 "knots" you need to fire at that point? And what's the point of entering the 71' AOB? Best regards :)

@Agomongo1235 google JSGME (generic mod enabler) then install it to the game directory: Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\silent hunter 5 it will create a folder called MODS in there. Download whichever mods you want. good source of mods is subsim forum. and extract it to the created folded MODS. Run JGSME, in there you will see a list of available mods you have in the MODS folder and a list of activated mods. Select the mod you want to activate and click on > button. Done

Next time try that the comboy or ship didn't see you surfaced and makes zig zag. But if its too late... wait that the ship finish one of his turns to left or right and then shoot. I did other thing: I wait that the ship is in Aob 90º, and then I plus or reduct 10º = 80º or 100º depending what will his next turn. Try it. And remember, they brake like 1/2 cruice speed. If the ship cruices at 10 kts, when it did zigzag, it will travels at 5kts. BB

@mazdyabosoraya it depends since the 3300m distance was a random point in advance of the enemy ship...than the AOB was calculated to that point...hope it helps but i took too many heineken tonite haha

Play on realism high or go to options/realism and then uncheck auto tdc and apply the settings.

Thatr was a beautiful shot! I just watched and was in awe. Not sure if you keep check on this anymore. But Just a question: This was done with no mods? Because i dont see things like bow angle and ship choice (which ship you are attacking. What am i doing wrong?

my best understanding is there are no mods. you have to lock the target for your "person who calls targets for you" (forgot his name lol) to open up an editable dialogue menu. using all the ruler calculations, you input each editable area in the dialogue box appropriately. if you dont lock the target, you dont get the dialogue box and you cant get the ship selection and bow angle options

Like SH4 better you can just fly around all of pacific sinking stuff and it is fun :P Not this game load time is WAY to long and when you meet something it is always hard to find and it is fun to sink but then you have to find another target which takes ages. Redo the game :P would like SH4 with the same Graphics and models, but keep the maps and what was good and fun in SH4.

@californiaholywood you have a very good pc , are you sure though you have all the correct drivers since i presume you have a 64bit OS to utilize the 4gig ram...myself I would try to reinstall 64it drivers, go to motherboard manufacturer website and search by your Mobo model no and download latest drivers

Can someone tell me this problem: if im starting the game, it updates. After a,few seconds it says that it cant be updated, but i can start the game. If i click start game, then theres a launcher update. After a few seconds, updater closed without success, and the game dont start. Pls. Help

@Firepower357 That was obvious enough yet I have the feeling they overstretched their reliance on the modders to the level of "assholeness" :)). I mean, yeah, the guys are going to mod the game, but it's not even half finished and after all I paid the devs for the game and not the modders. And the game is so unfinished that even to this date nobody managed to make a supermod.

No need to wait for the AOB. As soon as your U-Boat is on the heading of that 90 degre line( to the target heading) , in your preriscope you aim at bearing 0 and adjust the AOB at 90... Since the U-Boat TDC is linked to the periscope, the ABO is always updated as you move the periscope.

he did that to be sure that the torpedos will hit the ship and to shoot in multiple locations to sink the ship (back.front.middle of the ship )

i dont think never play this game...im stuck now with sh4 and when i get boring of this(in a 4 or 5 years i believe), sh3 grey wolves will be welcome in my hd...this sh5 smell like these new games of nowadays...pretty graphic, but without fun...

hahaha you play on 50% realism and you say game is easy? lol, hahaha. Ofcourse you don't need to draw all these lines if you picked every system automated. Try to make more sense next time you post something.

Things I disliked in SH5: Clumsy 1'st person control (can't dive if on deck) Annoying tooltips Difficult interface if you're used to playing SH3 Broken AI planes Annoying TDC (the ship ID cards overlap with the periscope. if it's night you won't see shit) Annoying voices (especially the navigator) the fact it's not finished!

funny tutorial.its easy game to play.you dont need to draw all these usless lines just get proper position (I mean cross position) and fire all you need to know is a target distance at distance about 2000m every torpedo get in.I got a realism set to 50% coz Im a noob anyway its my first misson after a couple hours of playing a game I got 17 sinked ships.some maniacs try to complicate a game drawing all these usless lines, wasting of time.game funny though.
