Something I don't see getting a lot of recognition: shout-out to Tom and Maddie for being just a healthy couple! There's another version of this movie where they fight over Tom keeping Sonic a secret, but in this movie they are just supportive

Fun Fact! Jeff Fowler, the director for these 2 movies actually has a history with Sonic! Not only is he a big fan but he also helped produce the cg opening to the Shadow the Hedgehog game!

I love how they adapted Sonic's eyes in this. With the white fur serving as the connection instead of doing the one eye, two pupils thing from the other mediums.

One of the funniest things I heard about the movie is that all the Olive Garden references werent even product placement. They didnt get paid to put them in. It was an in joke within the writing staff that just kept getting added to several scenes.

This movie is the embodiment of a redemption arc. It’s nice to know Paramount listened, and for Ben Schwartz’s sake too. A actor/voice actor as beloved and talented as him didn’t deserve to voice Sonic if the design was the original.

This movie shouldn’t have been so good. We’ve got at least two good video game movies now.

"He's faster than the Flash" You underestimate how absolutely braindead fast the Flash is. He's no longer "Oh he can run real fast", he's "He can literally outrun the concept of Death and can vibrate himself so fast he can phase through walls." Flash is so fast, he's no longer fun to watch. Sonic is reasonably fast and is fun to watch.

Finally! Can’t wait for the reaction to the sequel! Also, Eggman is his original name in Japan where Sonic was created. But the American localization team decided to change it to Robotnik. Over time when the games became more story-focused they realized it was too much trouble to completely change everything involving his name so they changed it to Eggman in the US as well. A little explanation for why he has two canon names.

Robotnik was always called eggman in japan. So robotnik technically wasn't his original "real" name

Eggman is his original name, when it came to English speaking countries, they named him Robotnik instead, and his name change to Eggman was them fixing it since Robotnik translates to Slave, so that probably wasn't meant for a light hearted villain in a family friendly game.

But yes Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik/Eggman is perfect casting

I’m not sure if someone’s already commented this, but the shoes Sonic gets in the movie ARE real! They’re a pair of Puma women’s trainers (makes sense since Jojo probably pulled them from Rachel’s closet) that looked really similar to Sonic’s classic shoes by coincidence, although you can’t actually get them in red. I think they’re only available in white? could be wrong there, but I know the red was an edit for Sonic specifically This was so refreshing to watch, an especially a treat to see these movies really have been as good for newcomers as it is for old fans (like, we KNOW that to be the case, but it’s different actually seeing it happen, y’know?). Can’t wait for you all to watch Sonic 2, it’s a great time :)

Paramount announced back in February that they would be making not only a 3rd movie, but also a spinoff series for Paramount Plus featuring Knuckles, which is supposed to release some time next year (however at this point we haven't been told any additional info, so that's probably gonna be a late 2023 thing by my guess)

For Spidey's question at 43:44 - 44:00, Owl mom (Longclaw) is exclusive to the movieverse. She is one of the more recent owl characters in general Sonic media, there is also Old Man Owl from the OVA, Harvey Who from the Archie comics, Doctor Fukurokov (foo-coo-row-cov) from Tails Adventure, and Nite the Owl from the recent IDW comics. There are some others but I don't know if the other owls have any notable roles in other Sonic media but I THINK those are the more notable ones. For clarification on the comics, Archie and IDW are not canon to each other, the IDW is the more recent comics that are canon adjacent to the games, and while the games are canon to them, they are not canon to the games, same instance with Archie to a degree, specifically the later portion of the run, the early run was more based on the SatAM cartoon and just general sillyness, it kept to the same general world to the SatAM lore, but due to issues, they had to retcon a lot of stuff so they would be more in line with the games, then eventually it was put in indefinite hiatus and the IDW comics started up being set after the events of Sonic Forces and it's version of the world. If this sounds really complicated, it's because it is due to just over the years Sega and it's licensing just not being internally and externally consistent. Early on it was just no monitoring a lot outside of the games plus just over the years doing a lot of retcons to things to, in their eyes, make things easier to manage, but to most it just feels like needless complications or the explanations just generally feel like they make no sense when you think about them. Also fun fact (for anyone reading who doesnt know), the reason you tend to hear him be called "Eggman" more and not use the "Robotnik" name all that much, is because the name Robotnik was completely made up by Sega of America without really consulting the main team (from a 2016 Game Informer interview with Takashi iizuka): "They just kind of went off and did it. It became super popular and everyone in the West kind of learned about the character as Robotnik. That went on through the "classic" series in the Genesis/Mega Drive era, but as far as the developers are concerned... we really didn't want to have anyone in the [Sonic] universe with two names. To us, he's Eggman, but in the rest of the world he's called Robotnik. We wanted to unify that into one name moving forward. This is something I actually did in the Sonic Adventure series. I made it so that we understand the character's name is Robotnik, but his nickname is Eggman, and as far as everyone is concerned in the world now, we're just going to call him Eggman as his official name."

Oh this is going to be awesome. Sonic 2 was just awesome to watch. No Way Home was hype but Sonic 2 definitely hit all the nostalgia. Can’t wait for you guys to react to it. Jim Carry really does it make these films. He is by far the best Egg man.

I was pleasantly surprised by it, after the initial trailer there was some worry but they really listened to the fanbase and delivered something really fun! i haven't seen the 2nd yet, but looking at the trailers it leans even more into what makes Sonic so appealing.

This was an amazing reaction, and it's one of my favorites. We all know it was a great movie, but it was a treat seeing how into the film you guys were, and how much you were enjoying it. I agree so much, that it would have been bad, if they had gone with the original design. The movie was good, but it would have been hard to enjoy, if you had the nagging feeling that everything was 'off'. I am glad they cared enough about the fans that they listened. It wasn't just good for fans, but it was good for the production. After all, what is the point of producing something, that is doomed to fall short, if the means for success are within your grasp? This reaction gets an A+.
