The Midwinter Greetings, whether they be the greeting cards that go out to all the stations or the videos that all the different NSF Polar Stations create for the world to see, are some of the most fun traditions that we do during the middle of the season. In this video I discuss our photo and video, and I promise, they’re pretty ridiculous!

I am currently living and working at the South Pole Station through the United States Antarctic Program. I am not down here as a filmmaker or photographer, but instead work in the Logistics and Supply department. All of these videos are being made during my free time and not during working hours. We are very busy down here keeping the station running at maximum efficiency, but I have managed to find some free time to make these short movies!

Lol! loved the video that was put together to show some of the other people there with you. Would it be possible to ship some snow here immediately? enough to make an igloo in my living room? or icicles!!!! We need icicles and some of that blowing, snowy wind. This is the third day in a row for us here, that the regular temp is close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. But with the unbearable heat and humidity, the heat index has said it makes it feel like 105-115 degrees fahrenheit. Bad heat wave. I swear if you send enough snow for an igloo, I will share with my neighbors. I promise. Or I will share the icicles like lollipops. I know, we either complain of the cold or the heat. We are never satisfied with what mother nature dishes out. Thanks for another fun video. As always, looking forward to the next one. Stay safe and warm.

Ahh thank you so much! And yeah, it was a really fun one to make! The community was pretty excited to be a part of it for the most part, and the NSF really seemed to like it as well! That’s crazy to hear about your weather though!! Dang! We just hit -100F ambient last week, so it’s crazy to think that we had about a 200 degree difference!!! 😱 Hopefully it cools down for you soon though!! But thanks again! Next one will be the June Review video ☺️

wow! yeah, 200 degree difference!!! thats incredible to even wrap your head around. it finally cooled down a little here. enough to give myself a day at the beach for my bday yesterday without looking and feeling like a cooked lobster. Still would love some icicles though to have handy for the next heat wave. until the next video my friend, stay warm and stay safe.

Yeah, it’s pretty insane! Or that when we get to McMurdo on our way north and it’s like 20 degrees there, it’ll be like 60 degrees warmer than where we left from! But I’m glad you got to enjoy it! Happy Belated Birthday!! 🎉😊

wow! that's a big difference in temperature. Do you know why its that much warmer, and is it always that way temp wise between those two locations? and last question, how far away is Mcmurdo ? And thank you for the birthday wishes. Much appreciated. so I'm guessing thats a no on those icicles huh? Not even for some flaming hot Cheetos???

Ahh sorry for the late reply!! But the difference is so big because of a couple reasons. For one, McMurdo is like 850 miles further north than the Pole. That makes a huge difference. The second thing is that McMurdo is at sea level, while Pole is at about 9300ft! So that's the other big thing!! And I wish I could send some! Sadly, I don't think they would quite make it :P
