I feel you. My ex-wife grew up thinking birds were completely separate to animals, and she simply never had this idea challenged. She wasn't difficult about it but also never changed her mind. Confirmation/primacy bias (almost) always beats facts/logic. Tells you everything you need to know about human rationality - it's completely unnatural to us. We much prefer our ideas about reality to reality itself. ...and no, the "birds aren't animals" thing isn't the reason my wife and I separated, though that would've been funny.

My first boss was at Publix, a grocery store that caters to customers. However, during a meeting, he told us, "if a customer has a complaint about anything, you send them to me. That's what I'm paid to do, not you." That has stuck with me my whole life and everytime I have had an encounter with an unhappy customer/client/patient/etc., I ALWAYS just refer them to my superior. Managers generally exist to manage the people under them, but it's good when they're actually responsible enough to also manage situations. Sounds like your old boss was one of the good ones. Considering how many unhappy customers do want to speak to the mgr, it's not a bad idea to immediately refer to them unless you're actually paid well enough and in a role where it's one of your duties. Even if your mgr happens to be a moron... well, that's on the company.

The 7 year old son thing is kinda funny since the original guy is correct. The boy was born in 1996. He was 0 in 1996, 1 in 1997, 2 in 1998, 3 in 1999, 4 in 2000, 5 in 2001, 6 in 2002, and still 6 by his death in 2003. I don’t understand how people mess that up. Their 1st birthday doesn’t happen until 12 months after birth. Sigh.

@@jeffreycauwels1974 I can't tell if the person you're responding to is saying that as a statement or a legit question. The fact that it takes 100 pennies to make a dollar is kinda why a penny is called a "cent". Like "century" being used to denote a time period of 100 years. One penny is one cent. 100 cents is 1 dollar, because it takes 100 pennies to equate to 1 dollar, which is also why $0.01 is one-hundredth of a dollar.

Canadian here. So there's a major problem with supply and demand when it comes to healthcare. In the USA, that corrupt system that puts people into ridiculous amounts of debt also allows doctors and other medical professionals to make a lot more money, so many of ours wind up moving down there to capitalize on that. The result is that there aren't enough medical professionals remaining in Canada to keep up with demand - there can be long wait lists, years for some things (and I know this often applies to Americans dealing with the healthcare insurance system down there,) but if a Canadian has lots of money, they can opt to go to an American specialist and pay out of pocket to be seen much sooner. They pay for it, though. I don't know where that guy got the impression that Canadians just skip town.
@jewels3846

In some cases Canadian health care covers treatment in america (see BC and certain cancer treatments for recent examples) but its still requires you too go through the canadian health care system in queue with others. Unless they pay out of pocket for priority like you said. But even then its very few things that generally are exceptions (the bc one i think is due to lack of space for how many patients need care which is a whole other issue with out health care esp since covid)

13:33 the explanation This equation is a good example of how to use BIDMAS/BODMAS (plus other variations) The B stands for Brackets meaning that if there are any brackets in the equation, solve them first. So 2+5(8-5) --> 2+5 3 Since there is no sign between the 5 and 3, you multiply it. Two or more numbers together that aren't one big number, multiply. So 2+5 3 --> 2+15 And the final step is the easiest. 2+15 is 17 so the actual answer is 17, NOT the answer the person give at the start of the post (they said 21)

17:30 Correct me if I'm wrong, but Aren't bonsai trees just. The trees themselves, grown in a specific way? You do a smaller pot to encourage less root spread, floral wires and specific trimming and such to encourage them to grow into a particular shape, ect? Like, you could literally take any apple seed, plant it, grow it, use wires while the branches are young to encourage specific growth, as well as trimming and such, and it just. Is a tiny version of the bigger tree. And if given the chance and space and time, it could be taken out of the pot and grown into a proper tree still? Which is why they can still flower and fruit? There isn't a specific species that is a *bonzai* tree from what I remember. But there are some trees that take that art form better than others I'd imagine, and are used more often in bonzai art because of it ^^'

3:32, the correct cost of such a creation was $130 in pennies alone. Not including what what was used to seal the pennies into the floor though it probably put this project at around $150-$175 in materials. From there, probably about $50 worth of labor spent, from the guy who made it so $200-$225 overall for an actually cool looking floor. Bro spent normal labor costs of installing tile, for the whole project so..an absolute win on his part.

@@datengineer2174 The correct answer is 42. When they were 2, their sister was twice their age, which means the sister was 4. That means the sister was (and will always be) *2 years older* than they are. They are now 40, and their sister is two years older than them, so their sister must be 42. The way people most commonly get this wrong is by just seeing the "twice my age" in the question, and applying it to the new age too (2 times 40), and answering something like "80" instead, but that's not how ages work. This person at least didn't fall into that trap. However, when they came up with "twice 2 is 4", instead of subtracting the speaker's age (2) to find out the difference in ages, they just took the number "4" and added it to the current age instead, which does end up much closer to the right answer ("44" instead of 42), but is still actually wrong...

Education systems. Stop passing students that failed at the most basic of things. If someone has an F in reading comprehension, or 3rd grade math, THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL - It's not even the funding issues. It's the fact that for some moronic reason we just keep passing people that literally failed at basic life skills. I don't give a f if these people are 30 years old and still being legally required to go to senior year for the 13th year in a row. They are not functional members of society and thus do not deserve the simplest of degrees that exists simply to say "I'm not mentally incapable and can operate a cash register and not walk into a brick wall".

46:13 my catholic parents divorced and my dad looked up this for his annulment papers. The church still believes raping a spouse is abuse. What it actually says is that when you marry a person, having sex is a given as it is part of what certifies the marriage. To be married for 20+ years and DEPRIVING your partner of INTIMACY is what actually goes against the sacrament of matrimony. This means if one person chooses to never have sex with their spouse. The church is of the stance that if you never planned to have sex, your marriage isn't recognized by the church. There is a reason why abstinence is a huge deal and it isn't bc you "belong" to your partner, it's because the act is seen as sacred and should be reserved for holy matrimony. All that said, if a person forces themself on their spouse, that is still a huge no no. Just like how being bullied isn't a justification for murder sort of thing. Sorry if that didn't make a lot of sense I tried to explain it the best I could. I am not trying to imply church good bla bla bla, the people running things are all insane it feels like. But just wanted to clarify that the ACTUAL belief of the religion isn't so misogynistic. (Actually reason the bible sounds misogynistic is because of subtle changes over the centuries, Jesus as everyone should be smart enough to see, was very very very very liberal lol)

I can use one, and for tall, narrow blocks of cheese that actually fit within the confines of the wire, they work great, but it'll never not be weird to see people not bring out the cheese plane when they're going to cut cheese for their sandwiches and stuff. However, most toothpaste has something called SLS. It can irritate mouth lining and can cause canker sores. So, if you frequently get canker sores, try changing it out. Something I learned painfully. SLS is something that helps toothpaste the kind of foam, so do check the reviews of an SLS free toothpaste cause they can sometimes be a little runny and don't clean as good as ones with SLS.

So 0 (aka he was born,) in 1996, 1 in 1997, 2 in 1998, 3 in 1999, 4 in 2000, 5 in 2001 6 in 2002, and he died before he turned 7 in 2003.

1:12:35 Quick little story!I used to work at my local amusmant park and my manager there was the absolute BEST I saw him argue with guests several times to protect his employees and honestly, he should get paid more than he probably does simply because of how fucking awesome he is for protecting his employees from asshole customers

I work at a themepark right now! There's a bunch of different supervisors and leads, and most of them will most definitely argue with guests if said guests are being rude to the clerks/operators

Yes, Robin is correct when he says the air force probably trains pilots all over the place. Somewhere between Niagara Falls and Lockport, New York, there’s an Air Force base where as far as I know, they do train pilots.

33:16 Okay, they're wrong about it being "fake," but are correct about the war being the catalyst. English speakers in the colonies and England used a rhotic accent. But after the Revolutionary War, upper-class and upper-middle-class citizens in England began using non-rhotic speech as a way to show their social status. It's fake in a sense, but it WAS a real accent before then, just not a common one.

43:54 Beautiful book. The end BROKE ME. I highly recommend it to people who aren’t extremely effected by sad endings.
